Hi Everyone :wave2:

OK I'm in a panic! Oldest DD will not be joining us because she is a Senior this year and taking ALL AP classes and will not miss school...On the other hand, youngest DD is in ALL honors and I'm worried about her earth science class and missing labs. 2 missing or failing labs and you are out. Final payment is due on 9/5 and school doesn't start until 9/4...I must get in touch with her earth science teacher to be sure she will cooperate with us...In the past they did not cooperate. I just got the letter stating that NYS law states that taking your child out of school for vacation is an illegal absence.
Which in other words means, they do not have to give you the work.
When my oldest daughter was in 6th grade and I took her out she missed a report that was due and the teacher gave her a ZERO, and that report counted twice on their report cards. Ughhhh.

Oh well, we'll see, I'm going to send her teacher an email and ask her to call me. I'll keep you all informed.

Last year my DD had a teacher that was going to give her a zero so I put on the note that she was out of town due to a family emergency:rolleyes: Just make sure she does not tell anyone even her friends:thumbsup2 When you talk to the teacher tell her it's later in the year;) Family time is very important and they learn a lot with traveling::yes:: Good luck:goodvibes

School Excuse Sample Letter

RE: [students name and vacation dates]

Please be advised that [student] will be out of school during the week of [date]. We ask that his absences be excused.

The reason for [student]'s absence is that our family will be out of the state during this week. While we are gone, we will be visiting Walt Disney World. We believe that [student] will be learning many things during this trip and that his education will continue in his absence from school.

Some things [student] will learn about:

* Different cultures of the world, including architecture, language, diet, and dress, by visiting the different countries in the Epcot World Showcase (Japan, China, Germany, Mexico, Norway, Canada, France, etc.) [student] will have the chance to explore the exhibits for each country and speak with natives from each country who work as cast members.

* American history by viewing the Hall of Presidents presentation in the Magic Kingdom and the American Adventure show in Epcot.

* Nature and conservation at Animal Kingdom.

* Science by exploring the Mission:Space ride in Epcot where he will have a chance to see and feel what it would be like to travel by rocket to Mars and by experiencing the Universe of Energy exhibit which teaches about fossil fuels, energy, and conservation.

* Economics by managing his own spending money and making budget decisions on how to spend his money.

[student] will also be learning about map reading by navigating in and to the different theme parks, as well as the resorts and water parks via the Disney bus system, sociological aspects of crowds including patterns and behavior, physics of the different rides, breakthroughs in technology at the Innoventions computer lab in Epcot, art and animation and the history of film, and mathematics.

We believe this will be a wonderful and educational experience for [student] and hope you agree not to charge him with unexcused absences as a result. If it is possible for [student] to take any assignments with him to be turned in when we return or to turn in before we leave any work that will be due while he is gone, please let us know as soon as possible.

Thank you for your attention to this. If you have any questions or need any further information, please feel free to contact me.

We have been sooooo lucky with taking DD out of school (granted she's only a second grader now!) for these cruises.

She already told her teacher that she was going on a cruise and the teacher told me that she believes in the educational value of a family vacation, especially when it's somewhere special.

Good luck to all you parents with older kids!

That's insane :headache: . Guess all those political cries of "Family Values" from years ago was just more of the same ole' crap.

I have to say that it's really sad when responsible, interactive parents have to lie to schools in order to get family time with their own children. Administrators need to be aware this creates a very negative overtone. There has to be a compromise that is responsible and feasible on both parts, ya know?

Well that and I'm sure Jess mentioned that she's a princess, everyone loves her, and she'll soon be the next star of the Disney Channel and will remember when recognized for being a superstar to thank the little people ... like her teacher :lmao:

She also told her all about our trip to Gatlinburg (well, hopefully not ALL about it!!:lmao::scared1: ). Her teacher honeymooned in Gatlinburg & they go there every couple years when they're not going to WDW, so I think it's all good!!!!

Yeah, it is real easy when they are in elementary school. Last year I picked my DD up from school (she was so sick) she laid down in bed and said wake me up at 11:30 as I have to go to AP Bio and do a lab then you can take me home again when I'm done, I said you are so sick you can't go back to school, she missed 3 days of school. She had a tough time catching up on 3 days missed as they don't wait for you, you have to catch up on your own.

Now my little one is only in 8th grade and no AP classes yet, so she'll be OK but it will still be up to her to make up the work on her own as they won't help them when it comes to illegal absences.

Oy, whats a mother to do. LOL Next year I'm thinking about cruising Christmas week :) Stress FREE!

Ha clues, clues, clues!! Mr Tiggerking, my question to you, who put the Ram in the Ram-a-lamma-Ding-Dong? You are so quiet and now as I reveal, a prime suspect for Elmer. If you have answer to question, then next question is, Who may be Verna? Clue is: She wore an itsy, bitsy, teenie, weenie, yellow polka dot bikini on Castway Cay in 2006.
Verna.... I know who you are....and the clue to you for Elmer identity is: Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do, Elmer not as sly as people think. Don't swat at fly thats landed on a Pit Bull, you may get bit.

Inspector Cruiseau

Ok, fess up nanaheads, Who wore the yellow polka dot bikini in 06??
Drag out the beach photos people and find out who wore this, and then you'll know who verna really is, unless the Inspector is wrong:confused:
At least I think thats what he said:confused3

Ugh, no thanks. I prefer to do things where I have the control to get them accomplished.

Hi ya'll...
Woo sent me the thread about mising school because being ateacher it really makes me ANGRY when other teachers feel they are so important that even though they have your child the other 180 days, missing 7 to see the world and be in the company of family and friends isn't as important as a project ironing leaves!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will not tkeout my senior in high school because of her work load, but all others are excused, even if the state says they may not be. It says theyMAY not give makeup work, not HAVE TO GIVE A ZERO.
My homework is always the same for WDW....

1. What was your score on Buzz light year. Make a story math problem, up about that. (Math and Writing!)

2.Describe your favorite meal/ride.

3. Have the people in the Epcot Kidspots write your name in their language.

4. Bring your favorite teacher (me) a present.:cool1:

5. Tell whomever took on this tip they are the best and you will love them forever.... practice saying this as a speech.

That just about covers all subject................. Add the nemo ride for science extra credit.

Can be adapted for cruises. The education has forgotten the whole child and family values........... and I am a liberal!

So there.....
Judy

Shell have you talked to Wendy? They just said there was a levee break:scared1: But I'm not sure at what part:confused3 They are trying to get it under control if not It is going to get 200 or 300 homes:sad2: Let's put out Nana pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:
