11/22/08 Thanksgiving 2008 cruise thread. Double Dipping Travelling Turkeys!

I have checked my calendar, my Verizon TV listings and my math. Today is Thursday and DCL will be on the Travel Channel today! I miscalculated because I want the days to go by so we can hear that ship's horn sooner!

Disney website has posted the photos of Pgh when they were here the other day. They missed me and I'm not in one of them. Actually, most of the pics are of the cast members! If you see them, about 3/4 of the way through the slide show are 2 pics of a large red brick building shot from a bridge. It's our county jail!!! We have a lot of architecturally beautiful structures in town and they shoot the jail!

Have a great day (43) everyone!

Teresa - Recently someone, somewhere did a poll of the greatest sports towns and Pgh came in number 11. Boston was 1 and Detroit was 2. Ben just gave more $ to Boston for bullet proof vests for their entire PD canine force.

Sandy - What's the word on your passport?

Well, it's another beautiful fall day here, temps in the 60s and sunshine.

This weekend DS16 has another band competition, this time it's in the city. I think we'll go up a little early and do some shopping. We need to go to Babies R Us and get some stuff.

I think we'll try to find a Halloween costume for the little guy. He's going to be a frog if I can find a costume. He has a frog bath towel with a frog hood and when he puts it on he tries to hop all over and says ribbit, it's too cute. DD has vounteered to take him trick-or-treating. I not sure how sincere her motives are, she's too old to go, and DS is too young to eat the candy he gets, so it's a double bonaza for her.

DH's and DS's passport applications were mailed 9 days ago and I still can't track them. It's only been 6 days for mine. I registered my email address so hopefully they will notify me with any information. I'm not freaking out, yet. ;)

It looks like the Travel Channel has several cruise shows on today. I'm watching Samantha Brown's Frist Cruise right now.

Zandy - seeing the SE Florida in your title - I can suggest that if the passports continue to be an issue, I know there is a walk-in office at the Coral Square mall where they can likely check on them and if need be, money aside, order an expedited set.

I like your DS thinking! Our DS is doing something similar, except he's "borrowing" his friend's neice! He and the friend are taking her. My DH is thrilled because DS doesn't eat much candy and he will get the leftovers. DS already assured DH that they are going to Mt. Lebanon (neighboring community) and hitting the "rich" houses for full size candy bars! What a scam.
Our 11 month old grandson is going to be Donald Duck. I bought the costume after Halloween last year at the Disney Store. I think I paid 4.00 for it and 2 Nemo costumes. DH has an adult D. Duck exactly like it. They should be a sight!

Sandy - You should have plenty of time left to get your passports. I bet your DH and DS come before the end of the week!

I have a question for all of you experienced cruisers.....
I'm trying to figure out a possible dining rotation for us. We're traveling with a 15 year old, late dining. We also are connected to a couple, no kids, late dining. Any body able to solve this mystery? I tried and ended up getting myself very confused! (more so than my normal state of confusion). :confused3

Thanks. I think we'll be ok though. It doesn't take much to make me nervous about stuff like this and so far I'm confident that they'll be here in time.

I meant to say the applications were mailed, not the actual passports. They told me it was taking about 3 weeks from the time the applications are mailed.

Is anyone here a fan of the Twilight books? I'm almost finished reading the first one. The movie comes out on November 21 and I was wondering if it will be shown on the ship.

Maybe Michelle can help with that. Since they changed the dining room rotation pattern, I wouldn't have a clue how to figure it out. I usually need to know things like that, but I'm getting more flexible as I get older. I'm starting to see my crazy type A personality in DS and I need to teach him to go with the flow more.:rolleyes1

I am! I read the whole series in a week. I think DCL only shows Disney or Touchstone films at their theater. So I don't think they'll show Twilight. We'll just have to see it when we get back.

The time is either 8:15 or 8:30 more than likely based on the ago of your child.

The actual rotation I am working on getting confirmation if it is back to the old version or the new version. I will let you know.

Thank you so much! I shouldn't perseverate over things like this, but I can't stop. It's not like it makes a big difference either, I think I'm just nosey!:rotfl:

Hello everybody,

This economy thing really stinks!! I know my office has slowed to a CRAWL, and there has been talk of going to part time till things pick up:scared1: . Thank god my cruise is paid off!! Anybody else feeling the sting??

Sorry, but I have been out of the loop for a few days and SEVERAL pages behind in the posts. Without reading everything, can somebody shed some light on the FE thing?? I have selective memory loss (so the DW claims), but it appears that we are now handing things out throught the cruise and only to the kids? Its been a while, but didn't everybody decide last month that the FE thing as one gift per person (kids and adults) and everybody had a certian day so things get spread out?

Let me know if things changed so I can send my stuff back and get something more appropriate for just the kids.

Sorry, didn't mean to post that twice!!!

I got my bracelets! They look so cute. Thanks for getting those done Cindy!

Judy--I would guess the 8:15 or 8:30 too. You could always request the 8:30 rotation, then you can be with Susan, Steph, and I. ;)

cruisecrzy--I did get your PM, I'll PM you the link to the website. The official fish extender exchange is closed. If you want to hang up FEs, I'm sure some people will have extra stuff that they will share.

Hey Ken--I reposted my response to the new ones above. The official or original or whatever FE exchange you want to call it is closed, and still the same. Everyone has a delivery day, so that gifts are distributed throughout the cruise. IF you have extras and want to share they are on the list, if you're shopping is done (which it sounds like it is), don't worry about it, I'm sure others have extras. :)

The economy does stink. We have our own buisness, I stay home with the kids. We are looking at laying off or cutting employees hours as well as cutting our own pay. I'm so ready for the election to be over, so we can stop hearing about change and hopefully get something going. At this point I don't even care who wins, just shut up and get to work!!

For better or for worse, a number of repeat cruisers and some new cruisers registered late for the cruise. It frequently occurs that way, especially for those of us who live in Florida. That said, it is ok for those who have committed to a limited FE schedule as posted by 2X4. Michelle's group (Cruisecrzy), of which we are a part, are going to do what we always do which is to deliver items for the kids based on the overall chart of those participating multiple times throughout the cruise. As I have mentioned before, FE's are primarily for the children and for those who have traveled before, they know what FE's are when they see them. Thus, since we have a total of 7-8 cabins collectively, we will make sure our kids are taken care of and we will include everyone as we always do, even if by joining late it is not feasible in some instances to expect items in return. and that is ok too.

Stacie,

Do you guys already know your dining time? Our ressies just say late. I think I'll contact DCL and see if I can find out. I'll talk to Linda and Mark and find out if they want a specific time as well.

I don't know that's what we'll have but we've always gotten the same dining rotation, 8:30, starting in Parrot Cay, so I'm guessing that's what we'll be this time too.

Lexandme-
No worries. Nothing wrong with being curious and wanting to know. I can make no guarantees about anything, but I like to know as much before hand.

I forgot who asked about the FE stuff....I personally have stuff for both kids and adults. We have princess themed stuff for girls, we have cars and buzz stuff for boys, we have stuff for older girls like lip gloss and stuff for older boys (just cannot remember at this moment) and then for adults we have things like candy, lotion, etc.

I do not think whoever posted needs to return their stuff. Go with what you want. As for us personally we will make more than one delivery because we like to and we have the stuff to. And i believe when we first booked and I first read the website it said deliver on assigned day or more if you would like. I am not sure what the other 4 people I know are booked (not including Icemanpad) is doing. I know that the one that is 2 females has participated on other cruises. She is 67 years old and for her she just enjoys the walk of the ship and reaching into her bag and grabbing something for FE's. I know she gets stuff for adults like candy but some cute things for the kids.

My personal opinion is do whatever you planned and just have fun with it. I think that may be what Chuck/Lisa were saying from the begining. That some kids like his and mine and adult like our friend Edith know what an FE is when they see it. and the kids just want to play (they like making deliveries and who does not like to look for gifts upon return to their mini-palace). By coincidence and scheudle of school breaks my immediate family and Icemanpad have been on several cruises together. Last March (Chuck/Lisa correct me if I am wrong) someone added to the cruise and FE list withing one week of our sailing. They had two girls i believe and they enjoyed "playing the FE game" I think that Chuck's point was they were added last minute and may not have gotten as much as some of us who had been on the list longer, but they got to play along. I think that is the point the chuck/lisa are trying to make.

If you ordered only enough "special" stuff for those on the "original"/"official" list than go with that. If it is only kid stuff go with that and if it is only adult go with that. I can tell you that i have "played" with a lot of the stuff that was geared for kids....who does not love bubbles and pirate tattoos.:rotfl:

Well that is my opinion. Off to make some door signs.
