11/22/08 Thanksgiving 2008 cruise thread. Double Dipping Travelling Turkeys!

It was 35 degrees here in NJ this morning. I want to go on the cruise now, so I can get warmed up!!!:cool1:

Well it looks like we will be traveling on the boat this Turkey Day after all. We have been apart of the Turkey Day Gang each of the past 4 years and as a last minute decision we have opted to cruise this year too. (We also started the thread for the 2009 cruise which is very active already). Overall this will be our 7th Disney cruise and we are friends with Michelle and much of her extended group (Cruisecrzy).

We have had very good luck and made lots of friends from Disboards groups in the past. In 2005 we had linked 28 cabins for dinner and last year we had 65 people together for dinner, though it is too late this year to play with dinner links. Much of the 2007 group is already booked for 2009 along with plenty of new people.

I am going to lay off the FE issue other than to say that we will be participating as part of Michelle's group. Please realize that FE's are for the kids and our respective children have participated in Disboards FE's before and will recognize them for what they are walking down the corridors. To exclude them is not really fair, especially when that decision is made based upon when someone books the cruise. I can say that last Thanksgiving, we had over 50 kids involved in the FE exchange, and it was great exercise walking off all that extra food.

Some crazy lady near my house "lost" her pet Siberian lynx Saturday and it's still running loose in the area. :scared1: She says it's not dangerous. Right! She said "Simba" woke her up at 3am for breakfast (a raw chicken) and she left the wild cat on her screened patio and went back to bed. Here's a picture of the "fairly domesticated" lynx.

Zandy,
I think I saw that on the news. That they were trying to catch it and they had a special trapper that was brought in. Wonder if it is the same news story.

I am glad you are able to join in on the fun. I just told Jessica that Mason will be there again. And I never thought about FE as being exercise to burn off escargot and souffle's, but that is a great point. Yet another reason that FE filling is fun....way more than spinning class.

There is also a DISmeet with a grab bag to participate in so make sure Lisa knows that. I know you guys have been reading up.

On another note i am sure your 2007/2009 Turkey Gang is jealous :)

Welcome:welcome: :welcome:
As far as the FE's go, please hang out your FE!
There are some DISers that have been hand crafting individual gifts and they are very time consuming. We put an end date to ensure they had a count of people and could finish their gifts in time.
All of the people on this thread are very family and kid oriented and no one wants to see a child's feelings hurt. I'm sorry if you felt we would deny a child or ignore anybody because they booked late. There will be lots of us that will have plenty of gifts for all of the FE's
Stacie is completing a supplemental list for the website.
Once again - Welcome! :welcome:

WELCOME!!! You are more than welcome to join in on the FE, I'm sure most of us cruisers will bring extra gifts. Our intention was not to exclude the children!! We are all here so we can all enjoy our cruise!!! You are also more than welcome to join in on our grab bag at our DIS Meet. If you decide to join in just bring a gift (around $5) to the DIS Meet and put it in the tote bag, when you leave you get to pull a gift out of the bag. Just something fun to do.

Icemanpad I say start reading.

Okay we are adding one final cabin to our group. My daughters godparents have wanted to go for years and his boss is giving him the week off and hers is letting her miss Black Friday (she works at Kohl's).

They are two adults and a 5 year old boy and 2 year old boy. They have a Cat.5. I am not sure if they will be doing any of the DISmeet or FE stuff. This is their first cruise and they are so excited tonight they cannot think.

And we are excited because adding Chuck, Lisa, and Mason gives us a table of 20 plus a few Crewmembers that may be joining us for some meals. So we will be easy to find in the dining room...the really long table :0

I told Michelle to let me know the stateroom numbers of her group that were hanging up FEs and I would add them to the website. I'm not trying to exclude anyone, especially children.

The deadline was made so that those buying gifts that were one per family and making personalized gifts would be able to do so.

I guarantee that if you hang up a FE your kids will get something in it. :)

I will PM you the link to the website.

Sandy--That is just plain scary. :scared1: A raw chicken? What would it do to cats and dogs? I agree, keep the children inside.

Hi everyone!! Thank you all for the very kind welcomes!!! :cool1: We didn't think that we would be able to sail this Thanksgiving due to a variety of reasons. However, luckily everything fell into place and we are on board!! We just told our DS, Mason that we will be on the cruise again and he is very, very excited!! :thumbsup2 We definitely want to participate in the grab bag and the fish extenders!! :thumbsup2

Good morning! I was up until 12:30 working on a midterm. Have I mentioned that I cannot wait to be finished with my master's degree?;) I did find out that I don't have to do ANY homework while on the cruise!:cool1: I'll feel so free! Hope everyone has a great day!

Susan

Susan-- No homework!!! I'm glad you're feeling better.

Judy--Thanks for the heads up on the Travel Channel. That just so happens to be nap time at our house.

I have sent 2x4 our bio for the website.

Basically what we usually do for FE's is buy a box of stuff from Oriental Trading Company (OTC) and make several trips through the corridors during the cruise going off a participating cabin list. If someone has the graphics know how, this can be made even easier by mapping the cabins on a deck by deck printout. If not it is easy to compile the list by fore, aft or midship designations. For those new to FE's, it can be a long walk up and down those corridors, especially if you keep retracing your steps....though it is great exercise...consider that i believe 3 laps on the deck 4 track is a mile....and by the way, that box from OTC was good for 50 kids with almost daily dropoffs and cost, including shipping, less than $100, but the kids did not know that and they loved receiving loads of stuff.

Since we have a cabin guarantee, we will post the cabin when we get the number. For now we know we will be cat 6 on deck 5 or 6.

Chuck:cool1:

I can compile a list organized by decks if people want. I can make it up fancy with graphics and then convert it to .jpeg or .pdf for easy viewing. We also have a color copier at work so I can make a few extra copies to bring if you would all like.

The same with the TurkeyGang sign that Zandy made. If people need I can color copy and laminate some of those and bring them. That way people do not need to get magnetic paper.

I have the graphics programs to make what you described, but not sure if I have time.

I did already take the info from the website and group it by deck and color coded girls and boys because I am silly like that. I did not think to group all the aft, forward, and mid ship. Chuck is way more organized then I am.

All of the staterooms linked to us are GTY so I can post those when we get it in a few weeks.

Well I am off to do a lot of stuff today in an effort to organize myself.

The lynx is still missing. They bought Simba after they gave away their bobcat because it was too wild. I don't understand why people think they need to own a wild animal. :sad2:
