11/14/09 - Special Western - 2 CC stops PART2

I just wanted to say it was a pleasure meeting some of you at the meet! I know we didn't get to spend much time with most of you (and lots of y'all I didn't ever really meet), but we enjoyed what we did.

The kids LOVED the FE gifts, that's definitely a "must-do" for next time. BTW, I realized when I was passing around my gifts that I should have put my screen name (housecat) on the gifts also instead of just my family's alias (The Bayou Pirates). So if you didn't know before...now you do! Anyway, we loved all of your thoughtful, creative gifts and boy, am I glad I packed that extra suitcase!

To my Secret Mickey, so sorry I didn't get to say thank you in person...I LOVED all of my gifts. My husband started feeling REALLY bad right before the luncheon, so we had to skip the meet. He is still not feeling well...thinking it may be a mild-ish case of food poisoning:sick:. I loved the journal, bag, candy, bracelet...all wonderful and thoughtful. Please pm me so I can know who you are. I made a thank-you note for you, but didn't know your name so I could deliver it. Would love to get your address so I can mail it, though!

To Branda (sransdell), I'm YOUR SM. I hope you enjoyed your gifts...I sure enjoyed picking them out:love:

We had such a fantastic time! I can't believe how wonderful the weather was.

I booked for the Mexican Riviera cruise on the Wonder on Nov 13, 2011. I figured we'd make this cruise thing a 2 year tradition if possible. I really wanted to try the Dream, but CABO is calling my name. We actually had to get two cabins, since my youngest will be 4 then and can go to the kid's clubs...my mom is coming along as well. Trying to convince my best friend and her husband since we have 2 extra beds.

We'll be looking for y'all on that one... :santa:

Gotta get 3 kids to bed (one was sick all night last night).
Val (aka Woobie)

1 kid sick here as well, started just after we dropped of the rental car, Our table mates had a sick boy the last night, and the people next to us at dinner had a kid get sick at dinner the last night(not a good way to end our last dinner). Our waiter was sick and missed a night,so that may have something to do with it?

ALthough I didn't meet any of you, I got lots of great info from this board and had a great time can't wait to do it again. Thanks

What a wonderful, wonderful time!!!!! I really enjoyed meeting everyone and hanging out! Didn't we have wonderful weather!?!?!?

I heard that the people that died in Cozumel were a couple of drunk guys that took the jeep excursion. I only heard about 2 folks dying and that it was the drunk guys. Hard to feel sorry for that. But it was the bride from the CC wedding? And several others???? Oh no!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the really great FE gifts!!! Y'all went all out!!!! They were wonderful!!!! Sorry I didn't make enough magnets to make everyone a complete set but if you want more just let me know and I'll be happy to send them. But after seeing some of the other really fantastic stuff, I'm just absolutely humbled at y'all's creativity!!!

Thanks for my calendar, Secret Mickey!! It was fantastic!!!! I'll be remembering the Magic through the whole year!!!

MsTxMom, I was your Secret Mickey... hope you liked the stuff.

So who all's gonna be doing a trip report. KC and I will be starting one as soon as we get the internet hooked up at the new house. It'll prolly be sometime in December before that happens, though.

Is anyone else still swaying from their sea legs?

We want to thank everyone for the FE gifts. Allison LOVED finding goodies in them! We also enjoyed meeting everyone that we had a chance to meet. It was truly a wonderful group! Becky - we had a great time on the sting ray excursion and talking with fellow double dippers - thanks again for organizing.

Steve - so glad Lauren & Allison got along so well! We'll look you and Brenda up on facebook. Tom - Sean loved his dive in Cozumel with you. And thanks Susie for the SM gifts!!

I can't tell you how much we enjoyed sailing with all of you. It made the cruise so much better! Thank you for all of the FE gifts - it was like getting extra love everyday. And a big thank you to Connie, travelbee, my SM. Your gifts were great!

Safe travels everyone.
 Glad you liked them. Thanks Denice for the wonderful spreadsheet with all the suggestions!

I had heard the same thing, apparently a jeep t-boned another one at about 60/70mph, 8 out of 9 people involved died.

I thought leaving my iPhone in my pocket when we went snorkeling at castaway cay (DOH!) was bad, but in perspective it's nothing.
I remembered seeing a bride on the ship... that is so sad. Does anyone know more detail?

I've been poking around the internet today, trying to get more info about the accident. I found some posts from one of the drivers (who happens to live about 20 minutes from me). Not much more detail in terms of the fatality, but a police officer has critical injuries (lacerated liver). They dont know for sure if she will survive. The firefighter is going to be ok, but she will have a long road to recovery. Both arrived in FL via medivac. One is in a Tampa hospital the other a St. Petersburg hospital. I guess several injuries were missed in Cozumel (broken back, leg, etc). Here are the driver's commemnts:

I was driving the Jeep w 5 of us in it, not at excessive speed and when the other Jeep past thru the stop sign, I only had seconds to react, I am being told the split decision I made saved me and 4 friends lives ... we were not behaving in any irresponsible way. This was a horrific accident where 2 people lost there lives ... unless anyone was directly involved, do not judge. Let me thank those who sent prayers to us involved in the accident. I, as designated driver, was not drinking, I and 2 others WERE wearing seat belts .... let's prayer for the familes of those who lost 2 family members, and for those still fighting for their lives. This was a HORRIFIC accident and we as humans should simply be humane to one another.
As I lay motionless on the ground, all I saw was the lifeless body of a young girl ... as I prayed for her ... I watched the gentleman cover her in a sheet ... no one posting here can even imagine what everyone involved is going through.
The driver of the other Jeep who lost 2 friends after running a stop sign .... imagine what he's going through ... this was not a senseless accident .... it was a very sad and horriffic accident ... overall ...an ACCIDENT

Just got back from visiting with Debi and Kim. They had an awesome time. They got some great photos.
I will be helping them put their trip reports together. :goodvibes

I want to thank Michelle and Vicki for including me in the F.E. My husband collects the antenna toppers and this is one he does not have. Thank you so very much.

Glad to hear everyone had a wonderful time. It is sad though, to hear someone lost their life. My thoughts are with the families involved.

Welcome back everyone..my whole family wanted to say thank you for all of the FE gifts we were so surprised by how many we received since we weren't even on the list. My kids were so excited everyday. They want to do this again on the next cruise which we are doing April 10, 2011 to the Mexican Riviera.

We were looking forward to meeting everyone on Saturday but got to the ship later than planned, so we missed the meet up. Everything was so done so great thanks for all of the planning and work!

Just FYI, my son started getting sick last night at 2:30 in the morning at the Nick hotel, so we had to miss our flight today because he is still sick, he can't keep anything down which won't work on the 5 hour flight home. We had to get a new flight, find a hotel for tonight, Saratoga Springs thank goodness for our DVC points, and turn in the rental car. I am praying he is well enough to fly home tomorrow otherwise we have to change our plans again and I'm not sure Delta will wave the fees again, they wanted to charge us $600 until we finally went through the right customer service dept.

It is so sad to hear about that accident. My DD was on the beach at Castaway talking about the bride and how neat it was getting married on the beach.

Hi all-
Quick note here also. We are at POFQ and saw several new friends when we checked in. We had a GREAT time. Disboards helped make our trip very very special, with new friends, great FE's (we're still eating the candy and playing with everything still), my DH and I had great SM's (thank you so much - I love my calendar - my DH said it would be something like I would make), our lanyards (we're still wearing them here), and again the great friends we met and say hi to in the halls and even in Chakanaab. Thank you.

I hope all of you with sick family members get better soon.

I was also sick the last night of the cruise. I started feeling realy cold on the outside but hot on the inside. Sour stomach but no vomiting. I got sleep on the bus and the 2 planes rides home and now feel 80%.

I was told by a waiter onboard that what he was told about the accident is that it was a group of youngsters around 21 or so and they worked for WdW. The one guy who passed instantly did not want to go on the cruise but his friends talked him into it. The shore excurtion they planned was canceled so they went off on their own jeep trip. This waiter spoked to them in rockin bar d a few nights and was trying to explain to us why all the servers looked a bit down that night. They were told not to talk about with us, but he looked like he needed to get it out. Well whatever the case this news sucks...

My wife now wants to be gold members by the time our panama canal trip comes so she already talking about taking 2 quick trips to meet the 5 needed.

We got home today. Our plane had a mechanical problem and we sat on the runway for about an hour. That was the only problem we had. My grandkids enjoyed the FE gifts so much!! Thank you to everyone. Time just flew by and I forgot about the meetings. I did recognize people from their double dip lanyards!! Everything was wonderful. We booked again for Dec 3, 2011!!
Thank you all for helping make our cruise so magical.:goodvibes

Thank you all for the wonderful FE gifts. Sorry we did not make it to any DIS meets. Got carried away in the moments...we loved getting back to the room to see the bounty of gifts...

I left our identifiers for the FE gifts at home...we gave out a few "notes paper" for you all to use in whichever way you all wanted....we hope you liked it. It was my first attempt at crafting... =)

Thanks for adding a bit more to our trip! Take care and may we see each other on another trip:love:

That's too funny - I was your Secret Mickey and you were Secret Mickey for my Mom!! :rotfl:

I'm not sure I'll do a trippie this time around. Work's going crazy (and I've only been back 2 hours!)... But would everyone post the link to theirs? I'd love to read everyone's take!

And add my thanks to everyone for the cool FE stuff!

(And Fivepin gives the BEST Secret Mickey gifts!!!) :cloud9::love::cloud9:

it was a very sad and horriffic accident ... overall ...an ACCIDENT

For the most part I agree with you. But if anyone even slightly at fault was drinking then I'm not sure if I'd call that an accident.

But then again, maybe my viewpoint is colored by my incredibly forward thinking teenagers who'll be doing something, have a (to me) predictable outcome and then call it an accident (which drives me crazy).

It is so sad to hear about that accident. My DD was on the beach at Castaway talking about the bride and how neat it was getting married on the beach.

Eating Machine #1 was also telling me about it. His poor face just fell last night when I told him the bride was killed in Cozumel. Maybe I shouldn't have told him, but then again, I was 15 when my Daddy died and I learned just how quickly everything can change. It's a lesson he really needs to get too.

Add my son to the list of sick kids. He has vomited 4 times in 5 hours!

Sorry to hear about everyone being sick. What a bummer!!!!

I was told by a waiter onboard that what he was told about the accident is that it was a group of youngsters around 21 or so and they worked for WdW. The one guy who passed instantly did not want to go on the cruise but his friends talked him into it.

Oh no! Now I've got to go look at my navigators and find out what night was the "So You Think You Know Your Disney Tunes". The table that won was a group of young people that worked for Disney. We talked a bit afterwards about the "controversy" concerning whether or not Belle's Beast actually has a name other than "Beast". Oh, I hope it wasn't them.

And not to be the bearer or more bad news but does anyone know what happened in the Oceaneer's Club (or was it Lab) that night they issued the Brightstar alert?

My wife now wants to be gold members by the time our panama canal trip comes so she already talking about taking 2 quick trips to meet the 5 needed.

Oh, I LIKE the way you think... oh, King Charming?????

I left our identifiers for the FE gifts at home...we gave out a few "notes paper" for you all to use in whichever way you all wanted....we hope you liked it. It was my first attempt at crafting... =)

That was you? Those were SOOOO cute!!!!

:rotfl2::rotfl2:
I guess it really is a small world after all, huh?
:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I know exactly what you mean! I don't know when we'll find time to do a trippie. It'll have to be after we get the internet hooked up at home and that won't be until probably mid-December or so. But look on the bright side... you'll have our rantings to look forward to. Just sit back with a re-creation of your favorite drink of the day (or maybe that absolutely to DIE for "For the Love of Chocolate") and enjoy (because you know you're going to need liquor to get through our ramblings).

Just so you know, that quote was from the driver's post, not my opinion. There are so many conflicting reports about this accident, I won't speculate anymore (including whether or not the bride or drinking was involved, etc).

I also wondered about the Brightstar call.

I think we brought Castaway Cay home with us judging by my dryer's lint trap. :rotfl2:

The stomach bug is raging in my sons' school. Oh yay!

So, here's a funny for all of you...

DH and I were having a fabulous time snorkeling at CC lagoon. Saw a lion fish and the baracuda! No worries. Then it comes time to get back on the ship, and guess what was missing...our driver's licenses! AHHH! We realized they fell out of DH's pocket during the snorkeling. After he was very upset for awhile, we decided to look on the bright side. It was a great way to become a permanent part of CC! So, the next time you are snorkeling there, please look for our faces at the bottom of the lagoon, but don't pick them up, we want to stay there!!:rotfl:

Also, special thanks to all of you doing the FE's it was wonderful! You are all so creative and it was so fun! Can't wait to do it next time! And loved having the lanyards to identify fellow DIS board members, it was a great way to meet other people.

Another special thanks to Hypermommy and King Charming for making my mother feel so comfortable on the cruise-you two are great! She was so excited to meet new friends!

Here is additional information from a different thread on one of the accident victims:

http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/nov...cozumel-crash/

I couldn't get this one to load to find more info...

We were at the ruins when the accident happened. We were on the tour bus and came out on the road and saw the jeeps. I am very sad that I looked because I can't get it out of my head...there was stuff thrown everywhere and I saw some Disney towels and knew that it had to be someone from our cruise. The victims and their families are in our thoughts and prayers

Also, what is a Brightstar alert?

I think the lion fish and baracuda distracted you so the other fish could pick your pockets. :rotfl: I don't blame you for wanting to stay there, though.
