11/14/09 - Special Western - 2 CC stops PART2

OK guys, am I crazy? Let me explain first...

We have sailed in 6060 twice before. Loved the location...proximity to the midship elevator/stairs, midship both vertically and horizontally, and MOST OF ALL only one floor up from the kids clubs. Our daughter had sign-in/out privileges on our cruises, and she would page us and go directly to our room that was just up the stairs. We knew she could get there on her own without getting lost because it was so close. Also, several in the family are prone to motion sickness, and this location seems to have worked for us.

So for this cruise, "our" cabin wasn't available. We chose one right across the hall, 6558...same basic location on opposite side of the ship. Our son will have sign in/out privileges this time, and we feel comfortable with him getting to this cabin on his own.

So why am I crazy? Well this morning when I went to check on my reservation at the DCL site, there was a different stateroom listed...8560. I checked my Passporter and realized that this was an upgrade to a category 4, so I should be excited, right? But I'm concerned about the location right under the pools (the only stateroom review on the DIS says they wouldn't stay there again because of the noise from above), and also because it's down a long hallway 3 floors up from the kids clubs and might be harder for my son to find on his own. Motion sickness is also a concern because it's on a higher deck. I know the stateroom is a little bigger, but I'm just not sure of the location for us.

Am I crazy to NOT want this particular upgrade?

I would love a cat 4 upgrade...

My grandparents are from Canada. But my mom and I were born here in Los Angeles. Does that count. 6612-6614

We were very particular about our rooms too and I totally understand (ours may not be the best, but we are close to the same spot as the last cruise, so we know what to expect). Maybe you could make a little map for your son to keep in his lanyard? Most of all though, enjoy the upgrade!! :woohoo:It will probably be just fine. You could bring ear plugs just in case too. :thumbsup2

We were left off the FE list on the mini-nav. We are photocjr in rooms 6612-6614. I put up the info on the spreedsheet a month or two ago. I hope we didn't cause any problems for everyone, I really only wanted my DS3 Jacob to get a few things in his FE. This was our first attempt at the FE so I hope everyone likes our little gifts.
We are on that cheat sheet that got sent around by email just in the wrong room numbers.
6612-6614 photocjr. Jacob (3).
Thanks and sorry if we caused any problems.:hippie:

I have a Jacob (3) too! We will have to get them together :scared1:.

Well, we were in 8586 once (courtesy of Grandma Jane) and, while there was some noise in the mornings, after that first morning, I never heard it - or any other sounds. As far as your son finding his way - that will be up to you as you know him best. Maybe walk with him the first few times and see how he does/feels about it.

And, congrats on the upgrade. I keep checking our cabin and we are still in our cat. 11. The best thing is that I don't have to pack and move between cruises though so I will be happy - after all, I am going on a cruise with my DIS friends and the Mickster - I couldn't feel luckier.

And on another note - went to weigh my luggage today and one bag is 38 and the other is 36 so that leaves me enough space for what is left to pack and I just saved $50.00! Gotta love that!

I forgot to thank everyone who tried to help me print out the MiniNav. Unfortunately, I am beyond help  !!!! I still ended up using the scissors and staples route. Huge thanks to everyone who helped plan out our little adventure. Can't wait to meet you all. Just wish I had even a tiny bit of the talent you all possess. Happy packing!!!!

yes we should get them together. Playing with kids his own age is always a good thing. Are u on the FE list I will have to drop him off something from my Jacob.
:hippie:

I think I read somewhere that there are bikes with training wheels at CC, right? I'm going crazy. I'm like thinking over every detail. I can't wait for next friday to come, then I can relax....

I think I saw a picture on someone's trip report (nenners1 ??) that they have bikes with training wheels. So, I think you will be OK on that front. :thumbsup2

I am UPSing 1 box tomorrow...think we can fit it all in! 1 week from tomorrow we leave. This weekend will be the rest of the packing. The girls carry-ons are done with the exception of Sarah's homework. Found a steal on GB games. Twin pack: Cinderella and Ariel (which will fit in the DS) for $10 at Best Buy!

Anyone else flown SW across the country? Not sure what to pack for snacks...

This weekend will be fun finishing it all! Good luck to everyone traveling in the next few days...Linda, glad you made it safe. What's the forecast in Florida for next week?

Yep - we're on there. We are also from SoCal (Yorba Linda). Small world ;).

Are you flying overnight? You probably won't need many snacks. SW still gives nuts, sometimes snack packs, cookies and drinks. How about sandwiches or fruit?

it was low 70's here in Jax today. A lovely day.

Hi Guys,

While I have already gone to press with the mini-nav's, I have time to make corrections to room numbers if we need to. PLEASE p.m me if you notice a mistake like a room number or a missing fish. Also remember once you get on the ship, if your room number changes all you have to do is jot a note on the message board on your floor. (Disboard name. old number. NEW number)
I ordered a few more plain lanyards due to so many requests after the printed ones had been ordered. (I just hate to leave anyone out!) My husband and I have red lanyards from another cruise we are going to use instead of our double dip...but I am still short 1. If you know for a fact that a member of your group will not wear one, or want it, could you let me know?

Don't forget that we will have a book exchange going on the ship. If you have room for a book you no longer want in your luggage please think about making a donation to the book bag. We will also take magazines and childrens books. At the end of the cruise the books will be donated to the ship staff and childrens clubs. Just drop off your books once your on the ship in the bag, and help yourself to anything that looks interesting. I loved being able to go to the "library" in the middle of the night when I couldnt sleep on our last cruise.

One last thought.... we have been posting what things we like to bring. I thought of something the other day that I had seen someone else with. A door stop! The stateroom doors are heavy, and if your near friends and family or just hate getting hit in the rear by the door...you might think about tossing one in your bag.

Thanks!!
Cynthia

We are flying non-stop from LAX on American. I plan to pack basic PB&J sandwiches (just in case), left over Halloween candy, goldfish crackers, Luna bars, raisins, boxed milk for DS, and extra water. I like to pack small amounts of lots of things to keep DS entertained for a 5 hour flight. You also never know when you might be delayed on the plane with nowhere to go.

I think thats about a 5 hour flight? I would carry on a few sandwichs and apples. You should be able to buy those in the terminal if you need to. My "Men" get cranky if they get hungry, so I always carry on more than I need!

See you soon!

LOL! I think I might pack a door stop to keep my door closed! Last year DS would always seem to open our stateroom door while I was using the restroom and I would have to chase him down the hall half dressed :scared1:. Do you think it could work in reverse if I jam it under the door?

Also, you can take us off the list for lanyards. We will be happy to just use the CC ones we get at check-in.

I think I read a few weeks ago:

G-Force
Toy Story 3D
A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey
The Proposal

Can't remember what else...

If you want to use your CC lanyards that would be fine, but please stop by to at least pick up your lanyard badges. In fact now that I think of it, The CC lanyard badge holders are horizontial....I can whip up a couple of badges that will fit in them for you. Thanks for the offer!!

Doing the happy dance!:dance3:We got upgraded...did not think it was gonna happen for us..I even just booked the two day rental yesterday and we were still in 6634 but we got upgraded to Cat 4 8584 today! I was actually looking forward to our secret verandah room...but now I will have a full view!:cool1:

lots of pages to catch up on....my last day of work is one week from today it is getting closer!

Night all!

The mouse family heads out to Orlando tomorrow morning. Packing is all done, kids are in bed, and I'm heading there myself. All bags weighed under 40 lbs!

Susie, we're flying SW. They give you lots of snacks and beverages, but we are supplementing with beef jerky for protein (and lots of chemicals :thumbsup2), fruit snacks, granola bars and Uncrustable sandwiches for the girls. DH and I will buy sandwiches at the airport to take on the plane for lunch for us.

Good night dear friends! Can't wait to see everyone real soon! I'll post some short reports from WDW later this week.

Mousemom out!! :woohoo:
