11/06/11 Dream 4 Day

We were just on the Dream last week. Our friend had cabin # 8083.

Rooms 8083 and 8583 share a private hallway. The doors faced a solid wall -- the backside of the elevators.

It was nice - I liked the setup. We were across the hall in 8084.

(just happened upon this thread, as I have a friend sailing on it ... sorry to be barging in on the middle of a conversation)

Hope you have a fabulous time!!!

Thanks for the info...and don't worry about the 'barging in' we love company! :thumbsup2

I know we've still got a while before the cruise, but I wanted to give you all a tip regarding shopping on the ship. If you see something you like, get it then and there. Don't wait.

I had two shopping experiences where there was something i wanted and thought I'd come back another day, only to find it gone.

The first was a keychain that has the same fish on it as the FE fishes. Very cute. I saw it my first evening on a cruise, came back the next night and they were gone.

The other that's happened several times were shirts I liked. I came back and the rack was full but only in size XXXL. For the style I liked everything else was gone.

Just my little shopping tip for the day.

So very true! Have had this happen on each trip. Just pretend you are at Costco. What you see today will not be there tomorrow. You can always return if you change your mind, but you can never buy it once it is gone.

When you are on a ship it is not like the UPS guy is going to deliver another box of supplies that day!

Hey Soul Sister,

Those EXACT words were just about to come out of my mouth! Surprised? I think not. :rotfl2:

... since I'm here barging in and all, thought I'd add my Costco $.02 ;) ... living vicariously through you since my trip is now but a memory. :sad1:

FIVE WEEKS

FIVE WEEKENDS (including this one)!

So, what needs to get addressed THIS weekend? I have some online shopping to do and want to get that taken care of (so I have time to return/exchange what doesn fit). Got to plot out my bill payment plan so I can pre-pay the ones that will be due during the trip. And subsequently figure out if I do actually have the funds for some of the gifts I've been contemplating...folks may just have to consider my presence a present! :lmao:

Have to plot out the exact date to purchase more OBC (after last VISA billing cycle to hedge another month for the 6 months zero interest) and transfer rewards points to the Disney rewards card.

Have a mess of Disney cruise 'stuff' to sort through to see what needs to come along on this trip (pirate treasures for the little girls, and my over the door shoe holder and for example).

Projects for a little closer to cruise time:
Reconfirm all reservations
Advise Bank/Visa of out of state/country travel plans
Decide on/make door signs
Hair cut/color and pedicure
....and eventually....PACK!

What 'cruise duties' will you all be addressing soon?

WooHoo 30 day countdown for us.:thumbsup2

Still need to find the FE that I packed to well from the Panama cruise. I need to have the nieces over to put together their FE gifts. I need to pick up their cruise docs from their house.

This weekend is shot, too many things to do already. Next weekend will be at the Grand Canyon. This month is going to fly by.

I did something related to this trip ... well, sort of. I planned our Thanksgiving menu and put together the shopping list.

This is no small feat. It takes me about 3 hours. The bigest part of that is normalizing all the ingredients (e.g. 1 stick butter, 4 oz butter, etc into "butter, unsalted") and then combining to come up with the amount I need to buy.

I also create the project breakdown and timeline for execution, what needs tto be done and when.

The reason this is related to the trip is because I would normally be doing all of this the first couple of weekends in November. Since I'm on the back-to-back I lose that time. The weekends in October are taken up either with working or getting ready for the trip.

I realized that I needed to sieze a window of opportunity and get it done now. This is the earliest I have ever had Thanksgiving planned.

Thanksgiving by the way is a very big deal at our house.

Last year I think we had 18 or 19 people. This year it's a bit more smaller gathering with only 8.

So, now I'm fully prepared to focus on this vacation.

There's not a whole lot to do, just packing. The biggest pain with that is not the clothing but the electronics! I seem to recall a time when taking a vacation did not involve packing a power strip!

Note to self:
Adopt Costco buying attitude - If I see it and I want it, buy it!

Thank you, Jackie! :worship: As a never-left-the-country newbie cruiser, I never would have thought to warn the bank of some shopping charges!

Thanks for the tips.

Boy, I've been reading some harsh Dream reviews. I'm really hoping for a better experience, but we'll see in a few short weeks.

I sure will. We're really looking forward to our first trip to the Grand Canyon.

We fly through PHX on Halloween, which direction do I need to wave to then? Should I just do the princess wave as we're circling and coming in for our landing?

Harvest Festival today had the biggest pumpkin weighing in at ‎1,684.5 lbs.!!!!

Now it's off to an FFA Dinner and Barn Dance.

The Fish Extender I ordered from EBAY arrived today.

It is actually quite nicer than I imagined it would look like, and the pockets are bigger than I thought they would be. Jay's pocket has a pirate hat with the DCL logo on it, and I have a red pirate bandana on my pocket. Jay's looks a little nicer than mine, making me jealous, and making Jay laugh.

I will feel like a little kid hanging up the Christmas Stocking, when I hang up the Fish Extender on the first day of the Cruise.

Wow, just about 4 weeks till WDW, and 5 weeks to the Cruise.

Question: How cool does it get up on the deck in the evening? Do you recommend long sleeve shirts, jeans for walking around? Do you need a hoodie or light jacket?

Phil - Shorts might work fine if you are warm blooded, but will probably put on a light jacket. Of course long pants will not feel uncomfortable. Usually whatever I wear to dinner is what I wear up deck at night, plus a light jacket. I always pack a rain jacket too because you never know and I have had a pirate party in the rain. It does go on regardless of the weather.

LOL!!! Seriously, I feel like all the electronics need their own suitcase. Between my hubby and his toys and the kids and theirs, and then I guess I have to add my kindle and ipod too. It certainly adds up with all the ipods, phones and DS's. I agree. Last time I felt like 1 power strip wasn't enough.

And how could I possibly forget the cameras (yes plural) and the GPS because we have to know where we are at all times! And if we are gone for more than a few days, we couldn't possibly leave the laptop behind. That would be too sad. LOL.

Hah! Our last trip at one point there were 2 iPhones plugged in, an iPad, a laptop (because of course we need to offload the photos and videos somewhere and the video camera.

I'm surprised we didn't blow a fuse on the ship!

Hi Jackie and Everybody!

How much fun to do these - whistle while you work :lovestruc

I need to figure out my door magnet logos - If I want to print sheets and do the magnet page protectors, or cut out and laminate? Last time I bought skulls and crossbones, and wrote our names on them - and didn't put enough magnets so they flung off all the time! My poor family and stateroom host! Boy was I schooled when I got on and so the ornate decor on others doors. Not even going to try to compete with these fantastically creative people - just want my door to look cute.

I cleaned out my closet, and therefore packed all my summer items in my suitcase rather than in the plastic bins - so I have kind of done some packing. I wrote out longhand a packing list - using ultimate packing list I think I found on here somewhere. So just need to do that packing closer to our time to leave!

I wrote out a things I have to do daily schedule and today will schedule my FE gift making, door magnet making and packing etc. I know I am totally psycho - and proud of it :cloud9:

I need to figure out what type of little gifts I want to get my DH and DS - anyone have any awesome ideas? :worship:

My birthday is on the ship, and my DH is not the type to try to figure out a surprise. I on the other hand love surprises - trying to figure out what I can do to - anyone have any ideas for how to celebrate a birthday on the ship. I don't need cake - especially if it is going to blow off my plate :rotfl:

So we are doing a meet at 3 on embarkation day - can't remember where? And Champagne Girls at 5 on sea day at Pink? Woo HOO!

I have been creating a document from various navigators from 4 day dream trips since the inaugural. It has the times for the general activities on it - that we would like to do - not that I intend to do them all. However, if anyone would like me to send it to them to use to incorporate with your ideas for activities you would like to do please let me know!

Anyone have any ideas - things I didn't mention! :littleangel: My DH just headed to weeklong recurrent training (he is a pilot) so I am filling my loneliness with some Disney Dreamin' time today!

Finally time to think about this trip...

Just back from our west coast trip. Vancouver and Whistler were beautiful (I heartily recommend the Rocky Mountaineer train between the two). The 5 night Princess CA coastal cruise was fun (great table mates) but too short--had gorgeous weather for the stops in Victoria and San Francisco.

Spent three nights at the Disneyland Hotel on DVC points--LOTS more DVC dining and shopping perks in CA than at the World. There's still some construction around the hotel grounds but really wasn't an inconvenience for us in the Adventure tower. The refurbished rooms are comfortable and in good taste with Disney flourishes like the amazing fireworks headboards. The monorail pool is really cool

Didn't make it to DCA (lots of construction there) but spent a day at Disneyland which was decorated for Halloween. IMHO DL Halloween theming is much more elaborate than WDW and works really well in areas like the petting zoo. The Nightmare Before Christmas total overlay at the Haunted Mansion is spectacular! The new Star Tours is brilliant (rode twice) and we love Mr. Toad. The fireworks were really the best we've seen in a long while with the huge fireworks pinwheels, fireworks from the back of Main Street and the acrobatics of Tink.

Our other two days were spent visiting with friends and attending a couple of tapings of the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (we're big fans and got to do the Secretariat dance TWICE).

OK, other than packing for the Dream, just have to reserve a car for our three days at Universal's Royal Pacific after the cruise and request our favorite dining room server. We're on late sitting; if any couples want to join us, PM me.

Can't believe how quickly September flew by!

Andrea

Woo Hoo - sounds like everyone has been busy.

I can't believe that in 5 weeks we will be on deck, getting ready to set sail :cool1:

Yesterday I made our reservation for the Sunday after the crusise (we are doing b2b, so we don't get off the ship til Sunday) - we will be staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort (it was only $14.00 more for the night than Pop Century, so I splurged :) ). Then I added DCL trasnfers to my reservation to get us from the port to the hotel.

I bought a waterproof camera from Amazon.

I rebooked our hotel for the 2 nights prior to the cruise and lowered my total rate by $24.00.

And the biggest one for the weekend, I made our reservations for Discovery Cove for Saturday before the cruise. This is a surprise for my DD - she is going to be so excited.

I packed my FE gifts, and did some other packing as well, but not too much.

Now I'm trying to pass the time here on the DIS. What's everyone else doing to pass the time???

Have a great weekend!
