10k for a WDW vacation

If someone just gave us $10K and told us we had to spend it, this is what I would do. Normally, I am budget conscious and wouldn't just go for it, but following the rules, this is what I would pick.

I've never gone near Christmas, so my trip would be December 6-December 14.

We are a family of five--three kids ages 9, 7 and 5.

Disney's Beach Club Resort--Standard View - Club Level

Theme Park Tickets--7-Day Tickets + Water Park Fun & More Option

Disney Dining Plan

This brings us to $8307. I'd need to save some for flights, and $1700 probably isn't enough for that.

Pretty amazing how quickly $10000 goes.

For my family of 3, unfortunately that budget would probably only get me a week at one of the values with tickets and dining plan. If I was careful with the money, I could maybe stretch to a moderate. Airfares to that side of the world are pretty prohibitive.

However, I think it's fun to dream what you would do if money wasn't a concern. So, if the 10K didn't include airfares, I think I would do something like the following.

Rent DVC points for a one bedroom at one of the Epcot or MK resorts (even if I had a lot of money, I still like a bargain).
Maximise my week by splashing out on fun activities, meals and tours that allow me to see a lot in a short amount of time. For example I've read of those tours where you can hire a Disney employee to show you around and avoid the queues. Perhaps a fireworks cruise, or great seats at Cirque Du Soleil.

I tried to play along and plugged in my dream vacation for my family: 10 nights Beach Club, WPF&M, Park Hoppers and Platinum Package. The total was almost $15,000. I guess that in my dreams, I have expensive taste.

Well lets see I already have annual passes for those in the family who need tickets so that frees up some of that 10K.

I'd stay club level in a deluxe for sure. Probably the BC again although I might like to stay 2 weeks and stay at a different resort each week. Maybe AKL for the kids. Going by the rates I just paid if we could get similar that would be close to 6k.

We'd add things like the Pirate fireworks cruise and use some babysitting for the twins during naptime so DH, ODS and I could spend time just the three of us. Do the same with a sitter and kids club for a night out alone. And eat at some of the signature restaurants like LeCellier. With two weeks we'd do some more no park things like mini golf, DTD, rent a boat, etc.

We would do a split stay at some of our favorite resorts. Probably BC/POLY Split stay. Maybe try GF. Not sure we would use all that, we have a tendency to not use a lt of money and try and cut it down. We got a 9 night split stay down to less than 5k. It's pretty easy.

The CONTEMPORARY RESORT with a MK view:thumbsup2.

Free $$ is the only way I'm ever staying there:lmao:

If someone gave you 10k for an 8-10 night WDW vacation, how would you use it? You can go on a cruise, to the parks, any combo. You must use it all on your vacation, though. Not save any.

Thanks for playing!!

Oh! Fun, fun, fun!! I'd get a large suite at BC CL, add the necessary park hopper + water park tickets, fireworks cruise, do Wild Africa Jungle Trek at AK, have lunch with an Imagineer, behind the scenes tour at MK, and throw in my own personal CM tour guide for a day. Yikes! I think I may be up to 20k. You can take away some details to get back to 10k.

I would have a limo pick me up from my house and fly first class. I would stay at the Polynesian, GF, and WL! and eat at my favorite restaurants and try something new. Anything left over.. I would go shopping.. shopping.. shopping!! It's easy to spend $10,000 at Disney World!

I wouldnt want too much. Just to stay at the Poly with a Lagoon view, Deluxe dining and to stay hopefully longer than 7 days!

We have done some land and sea vacations that cost that much. I think 10k is a lot for a vacation, but I don't see it as anything unusual. Several of my co workers are going to Europe this summer and their airline ticket alone were over 6000 for their family.

Wish you'd made it $20,000. I dream big LOL. I'd want to do a 4 day cruise on the Dream in the Royal Suite. Then 3 days at GF CL with one day with a VIP tour of MK (just so I could sit in those coveted white chairs for the electro magic parade). Tickets to MVMCP. And deluxe dining. Oh wait, I'm not sure $20,000 would take care of that. Oh well I'm just glad I can swing a few days at POFQ:)

Dec. 6-15. GF main building and because main building is club I'd do regular dinning this time plus 10 day hopper tickets. Total non discount price $11227 add airfare about $1000 for 2 from the west coast. But if a 30% discount came out I'd save $3045 - so I could do it for $10,000:yay:
Actually, that's tempting:)

I took the question to be you yourself not your whole family. I raised my famille and only got to go every few years that is the price you pay for having kids. Mine are raised now and my money is mine to spend, after bills of course, yours will be too someday

I daydream all the time about how I would plan a trip to the world if money were no object.

I would do split stay Grand Floridian and Beach Club - dinner at Ohana, spa trip, the whole deal!

for 10k- (comparing to recent trip for 6 nights, would do 8 nights instead)

room - 2 rooms at beach club (one for wife, son and I, the other for grandmas to share). 300/night/room, so 4800.

dining - covered nearly whole trip dining with 750 disney visa reward dollars, so at 1200, would easily cover all (and likely most souvenirs).

park tickets - 350/person (I think) for 8 day myw ph - so 2100.

airfare - 300 x 6 (approx.) - 1800.

Total - 9900. Pretty crazy how lifestyle changes- my career is doing pretty well now, but there was a time not so long ago that my annual take home pay was not much more than that.

I would stay at the Grand Floridian or Poly for two weeks with the deluxe DDP.

I would love to play. This year staying at a value and going on the dream we are up near 9200.00
Flights 1200.00
Room only 1 night at pop 100.00
5 days on the dream 3500.00
Pop standard room with free QSDP with 7 day myw with Wp&f tickets and the photopass plus 2900.00 for 12 days.
SPENDING CASH 1500.00

OF course this isn't my dream Disney vacation. But it will do for now 17 days in Disney can't complain.

This post annoys me a bit. Here's why: we're paying about $11k for seven of us to go to WDW for 10 days next May. So while it's a hypothetical question for the "average" family of four, that amount IS our WHOLE vacation! We could buy a car for that! I guess I'm annoyed by society's view of the one size fits all family. If you have more than two kids, you're screwed! :P Oh well, it may be a small fortune, but my babies are going to fully enjoy every minute of that ten day vacation! That will be worth it. :)

Just wait until those 4 kids hit college, $11,000 for WDW will seem like peanuts.

Never said we could afford it!:thumbsup2 We're saving pennies and using part of my husband's student loan money

Oh my, guess PP already knows re: college costs.

It seems like so much on paper...but it sure does go fast! :rotfl2: We're at that amount for our September 2013 Trip, but it's the 1st, so decided to go big! :)

9/20 - 9/28
BC - CL (Deluxe Room)
Hoppers
MNNSHP
Air Travel

And that's with Free Dining! :rotfl: It's only money right?

We have a 10 day trip planned for the end of this month. Staying one day at POR and the rest of the trip at Beach Club, SVCL. Adding spending money and money for food we're approaching $7,500. I think for another $2,500, I would either get a suite, make the trip longer, or a combination of both!

For another $10,000, I'd book a very long DCL vacation to somewhere in Europe!! So fun to daydream!

Beach Club 1BR concierge 1st 9 days of Nov. $6536 Already have AP so no money there but would use the rest for Dining Vickie and Al's, Chefs tables, etc. and souvenirs.
