..........

24 hour drive versus a 3 hour wait and a 3 hour flight. Hmmmmmm, tough choice.
I 'd fly. They don't limit that much, btw.

I guess most people are worried about missing the flight. That would be a huge problem. Three hrs early, 1 to airport, 2.5 to fly, 1/2 - 3/4 hr to get bags & car rental, if lucky = 7 + hrs instead of 16. We're driving! :) We really like to drive anyway, so it's no big deal. We've already driven to the Destin (FL) area 2x this year (13hr). My DH is flying end of month and is worried he'll miss his flight plus he's not comfortable with flying, never has been. For an 8am flight, he'll have to leave by 3:30am! Course, we're leaving at 3am on Saturday AM for WDW ;)

Bottomline is, everyone has to decide for themselves, as we all know. Heck, I'm worried about a terrorist attack at WDW! That anthrax thing down there is scarey!

We flew to WDW a couple of weeks ago. We've always driven (17 hours) in the past. We'll drive from now on. Flying was a cool experience for the kids, but it really ended up being more hassle than it was worth. At least when you drive you put the luggage in the car at the beginning and take it out at the end. No schlepping it around the airport, no security checks, etc. Also, when you drive you can CHOOSE the time you leave. If you're not ready yet, you can wait a little while! No getting to the airport at 5AM to hurry up and wait. I think I ended up more exhausted this time than I ever did driving.

C.Ann,
Cranky toddles are no match for me when it comes to cranky!!!!! :) I guess I really don't like being cooped up in a car for a long time. And I get very cranky and it is not pretty. LOL.
As to buying stuff and taking it home, we usually send a lot home via UPS. Disney packs it, ships it and you avoid Fl. state sales tax, and that usually partially offsets the shipping (which really is not bad), you get home and a few days later, you get a package from Disney. Sort of like a surprise.
As Tinkerbell states, you have to decide what is right for you. HOwever, how cranky do those toddlers get in the car?
Tinkerbell, don't get edgy on that Anthrax thing. It is one person and only one person.
The media is making a big deal about it, that is all. Yes, I know they closed the building and are testing everyone. The FBI is only involved to make sure it is nothing to be worried about, NOT because there is something to be worried about. Due to the fact it is one of those supermarket tabloids one never knows where this person was when he contracted this disease. It is a sad thing, but, at this time it is isolated. And..........it is miles and miles and miles from WDW. Relax Tink. :)

I know you're right about the anthrax thing, Gail, but it's always in the back of my mind. We're going to have all these "incidents" that would have otherwise gone almost unnoticed.

I'm so proud of all those men onboard the flight that landed at Ohare yesterday. Goes to show we're NOT going to let ANYONE do that to us again!

Here's another one. Such jerks...

For a trip of 500 miles or less you actually have a good chance of being there in less time by driving.

Tinkerbell,
Ok, now I am going to sound like a dummy, but, what happened at Ohare yesterday. I have been sooooooooo busy at work, (getting ready for a HUGE inspection with the big wigs and getting ready to leave Sunday for beautiful Bentonville AK for two weeks for school) that I have not had a chance to read anything except the bb for relaxation.
Tinkerbell, The media is going to raise suspicion over someone with a cold. They are thriving on this stuff and making us all afraid of our own shadow. I for one refuse to retreat and I am very angry with the media right now, this was a very large tragedy, not a media event.
Shame on the press!!!! Be cautious but don't live in fear.
And, now that I am done with my rant, I will apologize for going so far off topic. :)

Sorry, Gail, that link didnt' work. A guy from Ft Wayne, Indiana who was mentally disturbed got into the cockpit, had his hands around the co-pilots neck, screaming "save the towers" and tried to remove the co-pilot. About 6 guys ran into the cockpit and pulled the guy out. Seems his dad was flying and KNEW about his problem. The tied him up and held him down until the flight landed at Ohare. The pilot radioed hijack and two F16's escorted them to the ground.

I so glad everyone is willing to protect themselves and others! Proud to be an AMERICAN!!

if it's going to take over 3 hours just to get ON the plane - and they're going to limit what you can and can't bring on the plane - in some cases wouldn't it make more sense just to drive?? Just a thought..

We always drive to WDW (it would take a plane's entire cargo hold to carry what we bring back...), but everyone I know goes by air. I might get there about as fast now: 2 hours to the airport, 3 hours early arrival, 2 hours flight time and luggage retrieval, then another hour from the Orlando airport to WDW resort by shuttle. That's eight hours, assuming no delays! I can drive it in eleven hours, have my own car when I get there, and carry whatever luggage I want. The only better way to travel, in my opinion, is by train.
