I am trying to think of something inexpensive to do for my son's 10th birthday. It doesn't neccesarily have to be a birthday party, just something fun we can do as a family to celebrate

Thanks for any ideas

When is his birthday? One of my boys just turned 10 and we had a very inexpensive water gun party to celebrate. He loved it! He is very easy to please and probably would have loved to spend $5 at the dollar store too.

This was his second year for having the water gun party. We tell his friends to bring a swimsuit, towel and water gun. They have a blast! I supply lemonade, gummy bears, cheetos, gorp and grapes. It's hard to get them to leave when parents come to pick up.

for my sons 9th bday last month, our family of 4 went to a basebakk game. It is something the bday boy had wanted to do. We went to a major league came and stayed in a local hotel over night. To bring the cost down you could skip the hotel or even go to a minor league game. I actually orefer the minor games over MLB.

We are doing an angry birds party for my soon-to-be nine year old. :goodvibes

We just celebrated my son's 10 year birthday last weekend. He wanted to have a couple friends over for a sleepover. We took the boys to a local family-owned ice cream parlor where they got to order anything they wanted. We brought our own birthday cake with us. After cake and ice cream we took the boys home and they spent the afternoon having nerf gun war games, swimming and lego building. It was inexpensive and he really enjoyed it.

We just celebrated my DS' 10th birthday as well... he wanted a sleepover also, with about 4 friends. They swam, and I had pizza and ice cream sundaes, but honestly they would have been just as happy playing their DSI's and watching a movie. That's a very easy age.

Find out what is offered in your area and then let your son decide. This can be a lot of fun if he has never done it before and would be a lasting memory.

Frisbee golf courses are near almost every city and you only need a frisbee.

Go bowling...this was my DS favorite

Drive in movie theatre...ours often shows kid movies and the kids play ball and soccer before the movie in the grass under the screen

Hike at a lake and a picnic...take the cake with you

Our lake loans out outdoor activities for free such as GPS, binoculars, water exploration kits etc.

Sleep outside under the stars

Have the whole family decorate cupcakes and make it a competition with awards for ugliest, prettiest, yummiest

Rent skates

Old fashioned game night...hide and seek upgraded for a 10 y.o. maybe through the whole neighborhood at night, monopoly, charades

I agree that he would probably love a sleepover with some friends. Nerf guns, rent a movie, play some video games, a couple Little Caesars $5 large pizzas, popcorn, cake or cupcakes. The perfect party for tween boys.

If he is wanting to plan an activity at a place with his friends, keep an eye on Groupon, Living Social, and all the other local deal sites that have popped up recently. You can sign up for email alerts.

My DS12's friends are always taking him fun places, and I want to reciprocate but DH is not working now. This summer I was able to get 4 half price tickets to a local amusement park for DS and friends - $11 each for a whole day of rides, go-carts and mini-golf. I also scored bowling for 5 people - 2 games each incuding shoes for $12 total!! We are saving that for DS's birthday - bowling and then the sleepover described above :)

Happy Birthday to your DS!!

We had a "Minute to Win It" themed party for my son's 11th birthday. You can find blueprints on their website for free. Most of the blueprints use items you already have around your house. Lots of fun for all ages!:yay:

If you are thinking just family, not friends....
A day at the Zoo
A picnic at a park; bring a game like Bocce or Croquet to play
Scavenger Hunt around your house for his gifts ending in kitchen for cake and ice cream
Dinner at a restaurant of his choice
For Friends-
Sleepover with pizza, movie and games is a winner.

My dd just turned 11 and we did a birthday weekend. The ideas would work for a boy too.

My mom bought Carowinds tickets for dd's gift and we went there Saturday and ate at Jack in the Box after the park closed (dd's fave, not near home).

Sunday we had a small pool party at my moms. DD had a friend, ds had a friend plus us. Ring pops for favors. We cooked out and had Oreo ice cream cake for dessert.

Monday, I took off work and we went to Sciworks ($20 for 4 of us, living social deal), Toys R Us ($3 TRU bday q + bday $), Chuck-E-Cheese ($15 printable q for 95 tokens, plus they emailed me a q for 20 tokens for dd's bday). We finished up with dinner at Texas Roadhouse. I forgot the bday q for a kids meal, but they have specials M-Th before 6pm and dd wanted to sit on the saddle.

My son will be 10 in Dec and we're going to invite the neighborhood boys (mostly ds's age) over for nerf war. He wants a zombie theme? Not sure how that's going to work. Last year we had him a skating party.
