Do any of you have 10 (or older) dds that wear princess dresses in the parks or for dinners?

My dd is NOT girly, but has decided that she would like to wear one (we also have booked an appointment at BBB).

thanks

My dd is 9 nearly 10, she has been to Disney quite a few times and has always worn a princess dress to meals and occasionally in the parks.

I was thinking she wouldn't want to this year, but she has made it quite clear that she does want to, particularly for the day we do BBB.

I think the Princess Jasmine outfit is nice for older girls, a bit more grownup looking, so I am suggesting she might like that.

she has a long list...Sleeping beauty is on the top. Unfortunatly Jasmine is NOT on the list at all! (which is probably a good idea, cos she a bit tubby! LOL)

My dd was 10 last trip and didn't want the princess dress for BBB just a cute outfit she picked out at home. She did however wear her Alice costume one day at Epcot and also to our dinner at 1900 Park Fare. I had my doubts as to what she would choose but she was glad she did it and had a blast. I think we both knew it may be one of the last times she would dress up except for maybe a P&P party or MNSSHP.

It was a very comfortable dress and she wore it with white keds.

No one is going to know or even care how old she is, there will be lots of girls in princess dresses. This is probably the last trip that she'll be interested in wearing one at all, so treasure it while you can!

My dd10's not girly either. I was surprised that she wore a Cinderella dress last time we went, but it was her first trip that she was old enough to remember, and being at Disney brings out the kid in all of us! She wants to wear a Pocahontas outfit this time, so I will be looking for one soon since Halloween stuff is starting to come out.

Oh how I wish my 9 yo DD would wear a costume! Lucky you!! She didn't want to wear them anymore after she turned 8! She did go to BBB and enjoyed getting her hair, nails, and make up done. I have seen girls of all ages wering costumes in the park and I think it is adorable.

Your post made me smile and remember something about my dd's experience posted above. She saved her $$ and got the Alice costume as she had wanted it for a while. Then she met Alice at Epcot and had some great 1-1 time as nobody was around and wished she had her dress on. The next day was 1900 Park Fare and she wore the dress and had a really great time. So on our last Epcot day she was wanting to wear the dress but hesitating. I said something like "hey your at Disney, everyone is a kid and besides who is going to see you?" She wore the dress and had a great time but... don't you know that we spotted a set of twins from her class in the gift shop at Norway. Not just anyone from school but the "cool kids" she was mortified but since I didn't know the Mom and she didn't want to say hi we high tailed it over to Germany and all had a laugh.

Something tells me she is not going to "risk it again" and I am a little sad about that :) Kids grow up way to fast these days don't they?

Just wanted to mention that we were school shopping today and had to stop at the Disney Store. They had some very cute costumes this year and what looked to be a bit more comfy shoes for a change. My dd particularly loved the new Mulan costume.

My DD is tall & a plus size with long dark hair. She wore the yellow Belle dress for Halloween at Disney when she was almost 12 & it was very flattering. She would have been too shy to wear it to a park but if your DD wants to, enjoy & have a great time!! I wish mine would have. It was cute, a few little girls seemed to think she was a princess -they pointed & waved to her. princess:

Hope you have a fun trip!

Bev 97 is right on the money! My 9 year old could not be more of a tomboy if she tried. However, she loved going to BBB (go figure!) and wore her Jasmine costume to the P&P Party. She later said she wished she had worn it to one of the Character meals. Her younger sister wore her Ariel costume anywhere we would let her. I think my oldest DD got a little bit jealous of all the attention her younger sister received.:)

I will definitely let my DDs wear their costumes until they decide they don't want to anymore. It makes the magic that more special!:goodvibes

I noticed a lot of the responses mention 9 and 10 year olds being at the cusp of not wearing these dresses anymore. We are bringing my 11 year old cousin for her first trip in January and she mentioned wanting to dress as Belle. Do you think it would look odd for an 11 year old to be wearing a princess dress to the parks? It may be her only trip to WDW, so I don't want her to miss out if she really wants to, but I also don't want her to be the only older girl wearing a princess dress and feel awkward. My DD is 4, so I don't really know what age is too old. Thanks for any input!

As another poster said, you'll be at Disney! Why not? I don't think it would look odd at all. When we went in June we saw kids of all ages wearing costumes. My kids both said it was too hot and wouldn't do it.

Especially if this could be her only trip to the World for a long time, I'd let her do whatever she wanted. If she wears a dress to the park, you might consider taking along an extra change of clothes to store in a locker. I personally wouldn't be able to wear one of those costumes all day -- too uncomfortable for me.

I was really surprised last Sept when we went to WDW and my DD, then 9, chose to spend her own money on a Cinderella dress. This from the child who, before we left for Disney, proclaimed she didn't want to have dining with any characters, especially princesses, because it was too babyish. As soon as we got to MK, Minnie was meeting people and she was off and running. I think part of the Disney Magic is that it turns "big kids" back into "disney kids" and I, for one, can't put a price tag on that. It seriously choked me up, so we surprised her with dinner at 1900 Park Fare with Cinderella and she went in full dress, from her blue headband and bun to her pretty new dress and long white gloves. Sniffle.

This year she's going as Tinkerbell and she's so excited. (she turned 10 in july) Have a safe and happy trip!
