10+ Hour Car Trip with a Baby and Toddler - Are We Crazy?

What we do is book a room about 2/3 of the way down to Disney. We book online with a credit card guarantee. You usually have until 6 pm of the day you are supposed to check-in with no penalty. That way we have a guaranteed hotel room if we need it and if we want to continue driving a little further, we can just cancel that room.

I think for your first trip it might not be a bad idea to plan to stop, that way you'll know how far you can get in one day. Our kids have taken so many long road trips it's hard to count, but we can't go more than 12 hours reasonably. I can't sleep in the car (a control issue  ) and my husband can't stay awake to drive at night. We know we can get 12 hours, but beyond that is too much for our family. Last time we drove back from family at Thanksgiving we drove 14 hours straight through and we were all so stir crazy by the end of it we all wanted to scream.

Thi swill also be my first trip driving to disney with a soon-to-be 4 yr old and a 15 month old. Im not sure how the 15 month old will do, shes a bit moody at times, but my ds has been on a road trip every summer since birth and he does fine.... We leave from pa, after work on friday and its mostly night drving so the kids sleep alot. We have family in sc and will spend the night there before continuing the second leg of our trip....
My son hads never had a problem with long distance road travel... he's an eater and as long as he has a magna doodle and a slew of munchies (his favorites are apples, carrot sticks, and grapes) hes good to go...

We always get there in the morning and check-in. They will take your luggage for you and move it to your room when you are finally able to get into your room. We spend the morning out running around, picking up groceries and other things or head to a park. Go back when it is ready, quite often early, and take a break for the rest of the day.

The resorts give suggested check in times. I've gotten there very early. As long as your room is ready, they will let you check in.
