10 Delicious Days of Deluxe Dining..Day5-Yachtmans Steakhouse-was it worth 2 credits?

Love, Love,Love your reviews!!! I need to add Crystal Palace For Breakfast now....thinking of ditching my Tony's Ressie, but I do want to add Chefs de France, cause I was watching the movie with Remy while reading your reviews...Yes, I can multi-task!! Got some great snack ideas too....keep it coming, I am leaving in 6 weeks!!!

Great reviews. Going to keep following along. We'll be doing the DxDP for the first time in September after a few trips on the regular DDP. We'll live vicariously through your reviews while we count down the days. :)

great reviews :) i am in..and looking forward to your next installments...this is making me hungry for our Disneymoon portion of our honeymoon!!!! :goodvibes

Okay, sorry for the delay. Had some things going on at home that I needed to deal with. Mickey had his graduation ceremony on Thursday and is now a Teacher and it's Tink's 50th birthday Saturday so I've been prepping for that. Anyway, enough of my boring life and on to the food...
So we spent the morning wandering around HS: riding TOT(not Mulan's fave), RNR (Mulan and Tink would not even ride), watching a show of AI (where a girl from Winnipeg sang...which is crazy considering we're a pretty small Canadian town) and getting Fast passes for TSM (Arrived at about 10am and got fast passes for around 430pm). It was really hot out so we were excited to get to our 120pm ADR at Sci Fi Diner.

Sci Fi Diner was a new experience for everyone but Stitch and I. We had been there on our honeymoon last year and, despite a lot of negative reviews, had really enjoyed it so we wanted to share the experience with our family. We had come to Sci Fi for dinner the last year but ended up ordering off the lunch menu anyway so I knew this would be a great place for lunch. The burger is not on the dinner menu (even though you can order it at dinner if you ask) and I personally think it is the best thing on the menu.
I always find Sci Fi a but mysterious. First of all I find it difficult to find as it's tucked away behind AI and around the corner from Star Tours. It;s kind of off the beaten track and could easily be missed. Adding to the mystery is the fact that you can't see inside the restaurant until you're led to your table.
DSC02271.jpg

The atmosphere of Sci Fi is definitely one of the best on property. It's so authentic down to the stars in the sky and the speakers outside your car window. You check in at a little booth and are led in around a wall where you get your first look at the drive in I love how the kitchen looks like the concession stand and that all the waiters and waitresses are on roller skates. The horror movie clips seem perfectly timed to your dinner so you don't see them repeated until the very end.

We also love the classic Drive-in commercials that I remember seeing at our drive in growing up. This is the quietest restaurant on property. I think it has something to do with the fact that all of the kids (and adults) are busy watching the TV screen. One thing with Sci Fi diner, and this has happened to years in a row, is that the dining room is freezing cold. I would definitely bring a sweater here. We were so cold that we sort of rushed through our meals to get back out in the heat of the day.
We were seated in the center of the drive in and, because we had 6 people, we had a car of our own. Lats year , with only 2 of us, we hijacked the back seat of another families car but this didn't bother us at all. It was kind of nice having our own car this year though. The service here was the best that we had on property through our whole trip. Our waitress, Marsha, was absolutely fabulous. She was very knowledgeable and very friendly. We all had our celebration buttons on and she made sure that she asked each of us what we were celebrating and spent a lot of time chatting with us. It was really great to have such a friendly server. She was very quick with our drink refills and very knowledgeable about the dining plan. She also gave each if us a special celebration sundae to share. Knowing that we got a dessert with the DxDDP she offered to box it up for us. Unfortunately we were still going to be spending quite a bit of time in the park and we were worried they would melt. She offered to take our order, advised us what desserts would last the best in the heat , and told us to come back when we were ready to pick them up. When we came back we just asked for her and she had our desserts freshly made and brought them to us in to go cartons and bags and we enjoyed them later the next night when we were hungry for the,m I have never had a server go so far and above what we expected of her and I have written Disney to comment her on her great service. I really hope that she is recognized for her attention tot detail and her ability to make our experience the best possible. We will definitely return to Sci Fi partly because of her great service. She also gave us each a driver's license that we could use to scrapbook. Overall it was a great experience.
Anyway, I got sidetracked a bit. On to the meal. We always find it a little bit dark in Sci Fi so Mickey had some trouble deciding what to order but we finally got it sorted out and our food was brought it really quick.

Mulan

Drink Diet Coke
Appetizer Crispy Onion Rings for 2
$9.99
DSC02279.jpg

This was listed as being for 2 but Marsha told us that we could get it for one (not that we needed the extra food!!)
This was a huge portion (obviously why it is listed 'for 2'). Mulan was not a fan of Ranch Dressing or of onions...therefore I don't quite know why she ordered this and she ended up giving most of it to Stitch.

Entree Smoked St. Louis Style Ribs
"basted in barbecue sauce and served with coleslaw and choice of baked beans or cucumber melon salad"
$21.99
DSC02284.jpg

Mulan chose the cucumber melon salad with her ribs but found that there was very little melon in her salad. She also found that the ribs were overcooked and tough with not enough sauce, She said they were 'terrible'

Dessert A sweet ending to your celebration cheesecake
"with caramel sauce and treats"
$6.99
DSC02398.jpg

Because we ate the dessert in the room the next night I never got a review of the cheesecake but it looked really cute.

Donald

Drink Raspberry Light Lemonade
Appetizer Spinach and Artichoke Dip
"A blend of monterey jack, Swiss and Parmesan, spinach and artichokes served with corn tortilla chips"
$7.99
DSC02278.jpg

Donald said this was good but nothing fabulous. He has had better before.

Entree
Smoked St. Louis Style Ribs
DSC02283.jpg

Donald also did not enjoy his ribs. He said they were overcooked and tough but really red inside. The sauce was not good. He had the baked beans with his meal and really enjoyed these but did not like the coleslaw as well. He found it much too oily.

Dessert Apple Crumble
$6.99

Unknown as ate in room.

Tink

Drink Vanilla Milk Shake (also available in chocolate, strawberry, or Oreo cookie)
$4.29
DSC02281.jpg

The shake was thick and excellent (included as a beverage on the dining plan)

Appetizer Mixed Greens
"with diced tomatoes and onions tossed with ranch dressing"
$6.99
DSC02280.jpg

Very large portion and tasty but had a lot of dressing,. Would ask for dressing on the side next time.

Entree Smoked Turkey Sandwich
"Smoked turkey, crispy bacon, lettuce, and tomato with an avocado mayonnaise on multi-grain bread served with cucumber melon salad"
$12.99
DSC02285.jpg

Very good however she ordered it without the mayo so unsure how it would taste with it (Tink is not a fan of mayonnaise). Enjoyed the cucumber-melon salad as it was a nice change from the usual french fries and green beans!!

Mickey

Drink Light Lemonade
Appetizer Crispy onion rings for 2
Good and very big portion.

Entree Angus Chick Burger
"Flame broiled beef patty topped with cheddar or swiss cheese, sauteed onions, mushrooms, and crispy bacon served with a choice of cucumber melon salad or french fries"
$12.99
DSC02282.jpg

Mickey had his entree with french fries as he has an aversion to fruit and vegetables. He said the fries were not that great but the burger was one of the best tasting burgers he has ever had.

Stitch

Drink Raspberry light lemonade
Appetizer Crispy onion rings for 2
Kind of cold but good. He ate enough of them. Between the remainder of Mulan's and his own onion rings he had at least 3 portions to himself. I don;t know where he puts it all.

Entree Angus Chuck Burger
Ordered with french fries. The fires were cold and tasteless but the burger was delicious and a great portion.

Dessert Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake
"warm chocolate cake with a creamy peanut butter center served a la mode"
$7.99
DSC02397.jpg

We enjoyed our desserts the next night so they probably were not as good as they would have been fresh but Stitch said the peanut butter cake was still tasty. How come you go wrong with chocolate and peanut butter?

Morgy827

Drink Diet Coke
Appetizer Spinach and Artichoke Dip
I really enjoyed this. I am usually not a fan of appetizer's like this but I had had it the year before and it is quite tasty. It is easily big enough to share with two people and was a served at just the right temperature.

EntreeAngus Chuck Burger
this is, hands down, the biggest and bets burger on property. I had it with onion rings instead of fries on the side (which we should have been charged and extra $2.29 for but Marsha included it on our plan). The onion rings were good but nothing too special but the burger is so good. It is HUGE and I mean huge!! I could barely finish half of it but I forced most of it down because it was so fabulous. The toppings came on a little plate on the side do Stitch and I could share them and have whatever we wanted on our burger. This included the mayo which I think is a great idea because a lot of people dislike mayo. My mouth s watering right now just thinking about this burger.

Dessert Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake
This was good. It was quite sweet and a little bit hard from sitting in our fridge but it was tasty and satisfying.

This was our fabulous celebration sundae that each couple got one of (they were free!). They were really taste and just a perfect portion for 2. We all enjoyed it very much and were very appreciative of Marsh for recognizing each of the celebration that we had.

Would we be Back
Mulan and Donald say no. I think that they just ordered the wrong thing (I told them to order the burger:)) The rest of us would definitely go back. I think that Sci Fi is meant as a burger and shake kind of place and I think that if you try to go beyond that you will be disappointed. I would recommend the burger to anyone and, trust me, you will want to go back for more. The atmosphere is the best on property and the service was phenomenal. It's already on my list for the next time we go.

Great reviews! Can't wait to read more.

I just read all of them (sorry I skipped most of the comments.)

Quick question, did you ever return your cold food to the kitchen? Maybe it's just an American thing or maybe it's just me but if I get food that I'm unhappy with (even at the Happiest Place on Earth) I ask for it to be made right. Sounds like you had alot of cold food so far. I know my DM and I really like our food, especially potatoes and soup hot.

Sorry to hear about the soup at CdF. It's one we haven't tried yet but have been thinking about. Maybe we'll just stick with Tutto Italia, which we had last year and really enjoyed.

ADDED-Great pictures.

We're never really ones to return food...most of the time they are microwaved and then taste really dried out. It seems to be a common problem throughout WDW that the food is cold and it's too bad because that is something that is important to us. Maybe next time we'll start sending some fo the food back so at least they know that there is a problem.

It's funny that I never noticed it before... It's not called the Sci-Fi Drive-In but rather the Sci-Fi Dine-In. I think everyone who has ever posted about it has called it the former instead of the latter. Learn something new every day.

I am so loving your reviews. And the pictures are great! :thumbsup2

I am so glad you reviewed Sci-Fi. I am slowly brainwashing my family to not order anything else but burgers, onion rings, and shakes when we eat there in August. I am worried because my DH and DD13 love ribs and would stray off course and order something that Sci-Fi would just not do well.

Looking forward to reading more!

Great reveiws! You have me excited about our sci-fi lunch. I will have to remind DH about sticking with the burgers.

Thanks for the great review. This is on our list of ADRs and I'm pretty sure we will all go for the burger and shakes so we should be just fine here. My poor daughter has to dine off the kids menu so unfortunately except for the buffet places; she probably end up with chicken nuggets. - I'll be sure to share my tasty burger with her

Ah, the tour continues. :)

Looking forward to trying Sci-Fi in September for burgers and shakes (we've heard others say to avoid the other menu items as well). Good to know about the cold - we'll stuff jackets into the camera back-pack that day. We both get cold easily.

I am loving your reviews! I agree, Sci Fi has killer burgers and onion rings..so glad I didnt order the ribs BLECH!

Yeah, it's really cold in there especially after being out in the heat all day.

Good plan with the burgers and shakes. If only my family listened to my advice as well as DISer's do!!

Everyone should be reminded again and again about the ribs...it's too bad they are even on the menu...they don;t really suit the restaurant at all.
