DH and I will be staying at AKL 12/1-12/5 (just a long weekend getaway). We are only there a short time, and also plan on hitting our favorites at all of the parks. I have heard that there is alot to do at AKL, but with our short stay, I am sure we won't be able to do it all. What should we make sure that we do/see at AKL, other than watching the animals, of course?:)

Trying one of the restaurants at the AKL, and just soaking up the atmosphere of lobby and pool area. I haven't done it, but the night vision goggles sound like fun.
Enjoy every minute!

Tell us when you get back how much you wished it had been a longer stay, the time and days are so short while at WDW, not enough time to do it all.
:woohoo:

We'll be there on 12/9 and I can't wait to get back "home." We LOVE the night vision goggles to view the animals at night. You have to do this.

We want to do this for our stay in February, but have heard some conflicting info. about availability.....is it easy to do? Is it an organized event??

SO EXCITED!!!!!!!:goodvibes

Oh I already know that I will wish we had a longer stay! I keep telling myself that we are lucky to be going at this time of year at all. It just worked out perfectly that DH is burned out on work (this trip was his idea!), Grandparents are available to watch the kids, and I was able to get time off of work. Thanks to the Pop Warner groups staying at CBR, we decided to upgrade to AKL. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!:yay:

We just came back from 6 days at Kidani, and absolutely loved it. We had stayed Jambo before and had wanted to stay there, but it was booked so we "settled" for Kidani. All I can say is both are great. It sounds like you are traveling without kids, but both Jambo and Kidani have free activities for the kids, where on completion you get a really cool "bead" to add to a string. A couple of the beads are exceptionally nice. We didn't realize this until we had almost checked out but did manage to get the prettiest bead. Parents can get one too if they complete the activity. Regarding things to do, night vision has been mentioned and there is a bulletin board at both locations with times of other activities. I'd like to mention the Sanna Lunch with an Animal Specialist. The lunch is offered on Sat. and Wed. only. It takes approx. 1.15 - 1.30 hours and is $50 per adult, payment in advance required. It includes a lunch sampler with appetizer, Sanaa bread & condiments, 2 sampler entrees with rice, plus a dessert sampler and non-alcholic drink. The fee includes tax, tip and a $5 contribution to the wildlife fund. This luncheon was a wonderful experience and gave us the opportunity to ask all kinds of questions about the lodge and the animals. It was topped off with a visit by Chappy the turtle. If you have the time, and want to fully appreciate AKL, this lunch is highly recommended. Also, the pool slide at Kidani is fun, fun, fun and can be enjoyed by both adults and kids. Enjoy your long weekend.

Has anyone stayed 2nd week of Dec with pool view? Is it close to bus stop? Was it swimming weather? We've never been to AKL but got a good annual pass deal and booked today.

What are the types of these activities? I have been looking (although likely not in the right places) for a while but all I have seem mentioned are 'all kinds of activities'.

Can you be more specific?

This coming trip for us is just DD and I. DD princess: is a special needs adult yet I am hoping that some of these activities I can do with her, without her feeling like she is once again an adult amongst children, as a way of having a great souvenir and something that is relaxing on a day off from the parks.

Many thanks,
Dan

With pool view at Jambo you should be pretty close to the bus stop. The weather can be iffy. We were there 2nd week of Dec. a few years ago and could only swim one day. I guess it depends on what temperatures you are comfortable in!

If you like food or cooking take the free culinary tour at Jiko & Boma. Check the daily activities board but it's generally around 3-4pm. You get free food samples & they show you around both restaurants & tell you about African cooking.

Have a great time. 5 nights is a long time, that is the number of days we always go.

Let me see if I brought the listing that describes the activities. If I did I will post again. BTW, I re-read my post and want to clarify that when I mentioned we "settled" for Kidani, I should have also mentioned that that was the sentiment before the trip, but during and after we were estatic about staying there. :cool1:
