10 day Park Hopper to AP question

I recently purchased 10 day park hoppers and plan to upgrade to no expiration on 8/24/08 when we go to WDW for 1 day; surprise low-airfare sale! YAY! Anyhoo, I want to use 1 day of the park hoppers on 8/24/08, then use additional days during our December trip.

My questions is this: Can I upgrade my DW's Park Hopper to an AP when we go in December if I only have 3 days remaining on the Park Hopper? If i can upgrade to an AP, does the AP start from the date I purchased the PH, the day I first use the PH or does the AP start from the date it's upgraded? TIA

It is my understanding that you have to upgrade to AP before you use the MYW ticket. I may be wrong about that. I'm sure someone else knows for sure.

I purchased 9 day MYW tickets for our September trip that I'm planning on converting to AP before we use them. We are planning on going back in August 2009 for another 8 nights. AP's cost only $150 more (total for all 5) than 2 sets of 9 day base MYW. I'm hoping to get an AP rate on our 8/09 trip to offset the difference...plus we can park-hop with the AP's.

I hope someone can give you a more definitive answer.
