Anyone else on this cruise? What do y'all think the impact might be on this sailing?

I am on this one... I already see that Southwest is giving out warnings and we are flying out Sat. My cousin lives near the port and says they are all preparing for the worst. She says the storm should be out by Saturday but the problem will be the flooding and street/neighborhood conditions. I am on DCL transportation and I am told the last bus leaves at 1:45 from MCO, so we have to get there by then. We have a flight at 6:20 a.m., if nothing changes, then hopefully that will be good.

As for the ship. I read from the Disneycruise site that they are no changes yet, but they are keeping an eye on the storm. If they can't get the ship back to the port by Sat, then I'm not sure what they would do. I have read they bus people to another port, but who knows if that will be feasible or if the ship will have to stay at sea for a day longer?

Additionally, based on the forecasted weather conditions for Ft. Lauderdale (FLL), West Palm Beach (PBI), Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA), Ft. Myers (RSW), and Jacksonville (JAX) in Florida, and Charleston, South Carolina (CHS), our scheduled service on Tuesday-Saturday, October 4-October 8, may also be disrupted (flights may be delayed, diverted, and/or cancelled).

Customers who are holding reservations on the dates indicated above for these two destinations, and want to alter their travel plans may rebook in the original class of service or travel standby (within 14 days of their original date of travel between the original city-pairs and in accordance with our our accommodation procedures) without paying any additional charge.

We were originally scheduled the 10/8 sailing and ended up switching to Labor Day instead last minute. Thank goodness we did! I'm feeling bad for the friends we made in our online cruise group though.

We are also on this cruise. I am worried it will be cancelled in the end, this is such a mess. I just wish they would make a decision sooner rather than later as so many people are starting to travel in. It just seems downright dangerous for us all to be sending ourselves into an area that is about to be hit by a hurricane.

I doubt they will cancel the entire cruise, but they may shorten it from 7 to maybe 5-6. I can't imagine how much money they will lose if they cancel the entire week. I am with you though, I wish I knew ahead of time so we could arrange things or figure out what we are actually doing.

It's such a long cruise I'm sure it can be adjusted .. I just hate this uncertainty

This is the slowest moving hurricane!!

Just read on FB that port canaveral is being evacuate by noon on Wednesday and closed until the storm passes. No word when they will reopen. It was a notice on the official dcl FB page. We leave on October 15th so watching. I know the 4 night that left yesterday had their itinerary changed from sea, Nassau, Cc to sea, Cozumel, sea.

The Coast Guard won't open the port until the facility and the channel depth have been inspected and determined to be safe for navigation. That may not be till Saturday or Sunday as long as there's no major damage. This is the first time it's been closed since 2004 when Hurricane Jeanne made a direct hit on the port and did a lot of damage.

Disney Dream

  • The October 3 sailing of the Disney Dream is being extended by one day, as Port Canaveral will not be available for the ship’s scheduled arrival on Friday, October 7. We are now planning to disembark in Port Canaveral on Saturday, October 8, once the Coast Guard has determined that the port is safe for cruise ship operations. We are working with the guests onboard to assist them with their travel arrangements.
  • The October 7 sailing of the Disney Dream from Port Canaveral is being cancelled. Refunds will automatically be processed back to the original form of payment used for cruise bookings. Guests are invited to call us at 1-866-325-3905 or 407-566-7032 beginning Monday, Oct. 10, to book a future cruise at a discount.
Disney Magic
  • The October 7 sailing of the Disney Magic from New York is being changed to a Canadian itinerary, with plans to visit Sydney, Nova Scotia; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Saint John, New Brunswick. Guests who remain on this revised itinerary will receive an onboard credit. Guests who would like to rebook a future sailing at a discount OR cancel their sailing for a full refund are invited to call us at 1-866-325-3905 or 407-566-7032.
Disney Fantasy
  • The October 8 Disney Fantasy sailing from Port Canaveral to the eastern Caribbean is expected to sail as scheduled. We will continue to monitor the weather and make any necessary adjustments.
While we always strive to deliver magical cruise vacations, nothing is more important to us than providing a safe experience for our guests and crew. We will continue to closely monitor Hurricane Matthew and provide updates as necessary.

Matthew has also been changing speed, slowing down and speeding up unpredictably. What happens on Saturday will depend on when Matthew actually shows up and how much damage he causes. Here's hoping that the Fantasy can sail as scheduled and you all have a fantastic cruise.

Looking at the webcam for PC theres not much going on yet. Have to take another look in the morning. Maybe it will be a miss which would be nice.

I heard showing up Thursday and out by Friday. I know that changes every minute, but hopefully it turns and goes out to sea!

And possibly turn around and do it all again.

And right now they're looking at how close Matthew and Nicole are going to be to each other and how they might affect each other. Can you imagine if they were to combine??

I was just reading about this. It's called the Fujiwhara Effect, the storms begin to circulate around each other until the weaker one is sheared by the larger. It doesn't necessarily mean that the strength of the two storms is combined; sometimes it weakens both storms.

One hopes they weaken and/or disappear!!
