10/4/08-Buccaneers Take the West! Cruiser List in Post #1

I'll ask a question now, and may ask again later since it seems as though we don't have a bunch posting right now, but is anyone interested in doing some kind of trick or treat (for kids or grownups or both) or do the "fish extender" thing.

I think it would be so fun to get little treats or see the kids get excited about getting "mail".

Just an idea, let me know what you think,
Lori P. :)

Hello Everyone!

We are back from all our travels -- Detroit for Christmas with our Michigan kids and gkids; Morgantown, WV with more kids and gkds; and Petoskey, MI with Ma Z (my m-i-l). My next overnight trip is a girls' weekend getaway with Alyssa and her mom. I gave Lyssa a night at a hotel for her birthday/Christmas gift. She loves going to hotels.

Hard to believe we are at 8+ months before our cruise. As Gail suggested, Cruise Critic has a lot of helpful posts about excursions to the ports we are going to.

I set some goals for 2008 too - lose weight - at least 10-15 pounds - a short term goal but more realistic for me. Clean out the house of "stuff" - stuff we don't need. The Organizing for Dummies book suggests that if the item hasn't been used in a year, you don't need it. I am making progress.

Have a great Sunday everyone. Heading to my recliner to read the papers and have a cup of coffee. Wish I could be sitting in Cove Cafe this morning.....

The only cruise that I went on and did the fish extender thing was the Southern that we took in 2006 and it was awesome. It was just DH and I and it was so fun to go back to the cabin and see what new little goody was there. I am all for it.

I agree that the fish extender thing would be fun. That just means that I need to finish the ones I started over a year ago. I am awesome at getting things started but no so much in the completion part of the project. You know life just gets in the way. Time will tell. Lois

Hello all!

I am trying not to think about the fact that school is in full force (after two inservice days last week) tomorrow. It helps to come here!

I switched my reservations to DU. It was a nightmare because I had the reservations with AAA. I had to request that they release my reservation to me and then give it to DU. I hate making someone feel bad, so I really dreaded the whole thing.

I also am switching to a cat 9 from a cat 10. We had a 10 this last time, and I really missed the window. The price was less than $200 different.

I am up for whatever with the fishe extender thing. I also know that sometimes I have the best of intentions then get busy and don't get things done (like making a fish extender). Maybe I can accomplish that this summer.

Well, I'm off to wind things up before bedtime. I may be off to school tomorrow, but my heart will be on the Magic!

Ginger

Oh Ginger, I'll be there too! Last week was so nice and easy during inservice time. Talking to my coworkers, going out for lunch, planning lessons, etc...was so nice.

Once the ice is broken, and we're all back, it's fine, but just the thought of going back with students isn't that great right now, lol. Lots more stress.

As far as the treats for everyone, I'm clueless as to how that whole thing works, so if someone that has actually participated in that can help with ideas, that'd be great. Maybe I can actually make one...if you can make one with a hot glue gun, lol. I don't do sewing. :)

Lori P. :)

Things we got in our fish extender included bubbles in a pirate chest, pens, toothpaste, bubble gum, a plastic 12x12 scrapbook envelope with cardboard to protect papers and pictures on the return and lots of stuff. I think that Oriental Trading has great items for this.

Fish Extender - we had someone on our cruise make them so we just sent a check and she made them. From what I read, the original ones were found at the dollar store. I would be happy to measure mine out so that those that are going to try and make them have something to follow.

The only thing that needs to happen with this is that everyone that wants to participate needs to be on a list with their cabin numbers so folks know where to deliver. It really was great fun and even the delivery wasn't that bad.

Weel looks like we won't be able to join you guys. I know you will have a great time! Enjoy your cruise! Have a great countdown!

Say it ain't so, Ashman! We will miss having you with us.

Lori, as I sit here eating my tuna salad with birthday students watching Scooby Doo, I am thankful for the two days I ate lunch like a real grownup last week. :lmao: It's funny how we appreciate that, isn't it?

Hope your day is going well.

Ginger

Ginger, I'll be honest, today I would have given anything to be watching Scooby Doo and eating a sandwich with you, lol. I tried to plan a really neat lesson with several transitions (we're on 90 minute blocks) that was interesting and applicable to real life.

Well, I must not have gotten the memo, but evidently all that my students cared about today was seeing how funny they could be. My fourth period kept making little comments to try to make each other laugh. I had to pull out my "ugly teacher face", lol.

I'll just have to believe that tomorrow will be a better day.

Does each person have a pocket on the extender? Does everyone get something? When are the treats put in the pocket? Sorry to sound so dense, just trying to get an idea of how it works.

Well, DS8 has basketball at 6, so I need to get ready to go.

Ashman, I'm really sorry that you're not joining us. I've really enjoyed reading your posts.

Lori P. :)

I feel so proud....my first double post, lol.

Sorry I haven't posted resently but we are still looking forward to this cruise. Steve and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary by taking all of our kids and our grandson.

Hi Gail. Steve and I were on the 11 day too. It was so much fun coming back to the stateroom and finding little treasures!

Lori, we had everything from postcards of fellow Disser's home in England to pirate pencils. We delivered our goodies before bed.

It worked well that everyone delivered when they wanted and not on a schedule.

Hi Denise! I remember you and your family - didn't we do Eli's together in Antigua??? Well, lets hope I remembered right

I agree - it was great fun to see what someone dropped off for us in our FE. I will have to go and see if I can find ours.

Hope those that went back to school today survived the day. Tomorrow will be better.

I'm game for doing the fish extender thing. My kids will get a kick out of delivering goodies as well as receiving them. Like Lori, if it is something that can be glued, I can do it. If it deals with a sewing machine, forget it (and my father worked and sold Singer sewing machines for 13 years). I am game to pay someone to make one for me.

Lori & Ginger, I had to go back to the real world today as well (having students). Thankfully, my kids were pretty good today. Tomorrow may be another story.

I better go and eat. We have a basketball game at 8 (for DS 13). The older they get, the later they play. Everyone have a great evening.

Gena

Isn't that a little crazy. Educators complain b/c these kids are staying up too late, but then schedule games for late times. My friend has a daughter who cheers for a private school, and she had to cheer at an 8:00 game one HOUR away.

Okay, now I'm excited. I need to be on the lookout for "gifts". Is there some kind of sign up list closer to sailing time so that we'll know how many to bring? Do you know who left you what, or is it all anonymous?

Did you guys read about that cooking thing in Cozumel? Sounded really neat.

Lori P. :)

No, we explored on our own with pahrumpgirl and their friends. So, it just means that we get to re-meet!;)

Watching the LSU-Ohio State BCS game. Wish us some LSU luck!

I'll remember -I will. And now I have to figure out who I confused you with.

Watching the LSU-Ohio State BCS game. Wish us some LSU luck!

Interesting tidbit. I graduated high school with Les Miles. I know someone famous. But, sadly, my family are all die-hard OSU fans but DH seemed sort of disgusted this morning and felt that if OSU had played better in two key plays it would have at least been closer.

OK - good luck with all your students today.

Hi everyone. Found us on page 2.

Hope you all had a great Christmas & New Year :goodvibes .

We are back from Christmas with my family. We spent 3 days with DH's mother (2 hours away) then on Christmas Eve travelled to my parents (5 hours away). Got back last night.

The weather is great but a bit humid. My parents don't get the humidity so its a bit of a shock to come back to it. We've got another 3 1/2 weeks before the kids start a new year at school. Hopefully we will get some beach time before then.

Hope you all have a good weekend :) .
