Hello,

Thought I'd post to say Hi to everyone and just kind of check in.

Besides, we were on page 2!

Here is my contribution to keeping us off of page two.

Hope everyone is doing well. Well got to get busy with my day. Lois

My turn to rescue us - consider it done!

Well, DH and I went to see the surgeon last Friday and he is in dire need of a fusion - L4-5 amd L5-S1.. That part was not so much of a shock, what was shocking was the fact that we have to wait until 11/28 because he is booked up. We have waited this long so I guess a few more weeks will be OK. He showed us the hardware, really quite amazing all the extra stuff David will carry with him - but if it helps it will be worth it.

Well, have a good week everyone - I can't believe it is almost Thanksgiving!

Hello All!

We are finally getting back into our routine (unfortunately). Now I want next summer to hurry by so that I can cruise DCL in September and October.

What is everyone's plan for Thanksgiving? For the past 12 years, we spend the long weekend in Morgantown, WV. This year we are heading to Morgantown to be with our two of our grandkids (and their parents) on Thanksgiving morning and will stay through Saturday afternoon. We then are heading to Sandusky, Ohio to the Great Wolf Lodge to spend the night with our Michigan grandchildren (and their parents) who live in Michigan.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Jan

Gail, How long will your DH's recovery take? Sorry that he has to wait until the end of November. Hopefully it won't cause him too much trouble between now and then.

Whew, today was a doozy of a day. There are some days where all my classes just seem to flow and the kids are on top of everything, but then there are days like today where I feel like I am fighting against them just to get them to listen to me. Even one of my harder working classes was out of sorts today. Getting a new student in there didn't help matters. All the girls wanted to introduce themselves to this kid. Hormones! Ahhhhh!!!

At least I can count on the fact that it won't be like that everyday. You just never know what a day in a middle school will bring.

Hey! We're under the 11 month mark!!! October, here we come!

Lori P. :)

You have my prayer for a fast and complete recovery.

Just a note to say Hi to everyone else and I am off to be it has been a long day. Lois

I'm glad it wasn't just my class of fourth graders that was crazy today! I am exhausted! :confused3

Gail, I had that surgery a year and a half ago. As a matter of fact, that's how I stumbled across the Disney Cruise. My kids wanted to go to the parks, but I knew I wouldn't be able to do that. The cruise was the perfect solution.

I am better than I was before the surgery. However, I think I had unrealistic expectations for what I would be like afterward. I'm not normal (was I ever? :rotfl2: ). I am still trying to work my way back. A chiropractor is working on the scar tissue. I have also developed fibromyalgia which has hampered things a bit.

It's just tough at 36 to feel like I can't wrestle with my kids if I want to. They know Mama loves her heating pad! :lmao:

He will have a really rough first couple of weeks. After that, he'll be surprised at how quickly he starts to improve. Just tell him to not push it too quickly. The body needs time to heal.

I hope all goes well!! Please keep us posted. We'll be ready for that cruise, won't we???

Thought I'd post one of those "You know you're from" for the Great Lakes State - Michigan. Join in and tell us about your state or country.

You show people where you're from by pointing to a spot on the back of your left hand. (Especially useful if you're from the Thumb or the Little Finger.

The only place in the world can you experience all four seasons in one day.

You've never met any celebrities.

"Vacation" means going to Cedar Point.

The movie "Escanaba in Da Moonlight" wasn't funny. You consider it a documentary.

Traveling coast-to-coast means driving from Port Huron to Muskegon.

You measure distance in minutes.

All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, or animal.

You carry jumper cables and snow chains in your trunk.

Driving in the winter is better because the pot-holes are filled with snow.

Your favorite holidays are Christmas,Thanksgiving, and the opening of Deer Season, which you consider a National Holiday.

You have 10 favorite recipes for venison.

You learned to drive a boat before you could ride a bike.

You owe more money on your snowmobile than your car.

Your snowblower has more miles on it than your car.

Shoveling the driveway constitutes a great upper body workout.

The "Big Three" means either Ford, Chrysler and GM, or Little Caesar's, Domino's, or Hungry Howie's.

The municipality buys a zamboni before a bus.

You have experienced frostbite and sunburn in the same week.

Those are great Jan! Some I had not seen before. Well, winter has arrived in my finger portion of the state. We work up to two inches of snow this morning and it is still coming down. Very wet but sort of pretty none the less.

Lori - we were told that recovery can take anywhere between 4 and 12 weeks. Sounds like a huge difference to me but we will take it one day at a time and hope for the best. I would really like to see him pain free but I don't know if that is possible.

GGBacha - under the surgeon's advice, David and I have cancelled our trip to WDW and the reunion cruise that we were supposed to start next week - he just can't handle it. I hope that he is in good shape for this cruise and that is all I will ask for. The surgeon didn't promise pain free results but I do hope that he can get around better than he does now. I will keep an eye on him and see that he doesn't push too hard. Bless you and I wish you many "no heating pad" days.

Well - it is Tuesday everyone so one less Monday to get through before it is our turn to sail. Have a good week!

Bumping us up from page 2

Jan, that was great. seeing how I am from a small town outside of Grand Rapids, that is great!! I am going to share that with my mom who lives in Tennessee by us, but will also share with my family that still lives in MI. By the way, we watched the game this weekend, and were going for State. They almost did it.

Hope you all have a great night. I have gone back to school and need to study now that the kids are in bed.

Boy or boy we were yet again on page two.

So tell me what kinda plans has everyone come up with on this thread so far? Fish extenders? Mickey ice cream bar eating contest? Secret Mickey? Meets, before, during, and/ or after? How bout a PJ breakfast or a Lunch on a sea day together? Any other ideas? Lois

Catching us before we fall to page 2.

Our snow is almost gone but it is pretty nippy out there - warming into the
40's for the weekend so they say.

Lois:

I vote for a meet in the Promenade Lounge at 3pm on Saturday. Great location.

Great idea. I have also seen meets done at 3 up by the drink station to allow the kids to swim while we adults visit. I have also heard them being done up on deck 10. At the promende we would have more places to set and could avoid the heat.

This is just the start!!!!

Snow?!? What's that? We get practically no snow here in Chattanooga. Nashville gets more than we do, b/c we are between mountains which stop the snow clouds.

Jan, I like the "You KNow You're From MI" list. I looked up one for TN and liked the one that said, "You have four seasons: Almost summer, summer, still summer and Christmas." So true! Another I thought was funny was: "You know you're from TN when someone asks directions, you include the words 'over yonder'." My college friend from MI used to laugh at me for saying that. He laughed at that and when I would say, "I reckon so".

Our Thanksgiving plans are a little different this year. We're going to stay home this time. We have always spent the day with David's family, but this year, his parents are going out of town to see FIL's mom, so we're all staying home. I'm excited. Going to eat a late lunch together, go see a movie and then maybe put up the tree. The next day....IT'S BLACK FRIDAY!!!. Don't really need anything, but my friend and I just enjoy going for breakfast, light shopping, people watching, lunch, and having some laughs.

I found out today that our county has once again moved fall break. Instead of the second week of Oct., it's the third week, so I guess I'll have to take a week off from work, as well as taking the kids out of school for a week. Bright side...I'll have a 2 week fall break since I'll be off the week of Oct 4th for the cruise and I'll be off the week of the 13th or so for fall break (assuming that the teachers in our county vote for the calendar with a fall break).

Gotta go, need to grade papers!

Lori P. :)

I like having two meets - sometimes people are later getting on the ship and it makes it nice to have one later in the week. I was on the 11 day Southern last September and we did a PJ breakfast on a sea day - lots of fun and I would be all for that for a second meet. We had lots of different things on that trip - secret Mickey's, door decorating contest, fish extenders and gifts, scrapbooking, scotch/cigar "thing" the guys did (sorry, not my thing) lots to do for those that wanted to but nothing was required.

Our Thanksgiving is going to be very odd this year - we were supposed to be going to WDW next Friday and then sailing on the Wonder with DH's family but the surgeon has recommended we not go plus David could not tolerate the travel from MI to Orlando. They boys are going alone and David and I will stay home. It is what is best for DH, unless of course he changes his mind.

Lori,

I found out Wed. that out of our seven proposed calendars only two include a fall break. I'm not even sure of when the break would be. The school board seems to think the parents want us to do away with fall break. The problem is, the parents that they talk to don't realize that we will only gain two days of summer vacation by giving up the whole week in October. Crazy!

I've emailed a request to the county PR person to put out some information to the community. She's forwarding my concerns to the calendar committee. Oh well, at least I've tried!

Isn't that crazy? Some teachers I know actually voted for the second option where we get 1 week at Thanksgiving, but no fall break. I'm wanting to say, "Are you NUTS? You already get 3 days at Thanksgiving, and you're willing to give up a week for 2 more days?" I would rather have my breaks spread out. This year, I was SOOOO ready for fall break.

I think one of our school board members doesn't like the idea that principals are getting paid for a week when there are no kids or teachers in the building. That lady should have to get everything done done that principals must do with teachers/students in the bldg. They are constantly being interrupted.

As far as meets, has anyone done anything where each person brings something for other DIS cruisers from their town/state? Is that do-able or is that too much work/money involved?

Lori: On our last Magic cruise, post-Thanksgiving 2007 (a/k/a the Nana Heads), those that wanted to participate brought Christmas ornaments unique to their state/region. We exchanged just before the drill. We met at the Promenade Lounge at 3pm; photo shoot at approx. 3:30pm; and then back to the Promenade for the gift exchange.

Jan

Jan, how did you know you'd brought enough but not too many? Did you bring ornaments for everyone that posted on the thread (even if just once) or just the ones who kept up with the discussions? I saw a neat idea for something from Chattanooga the other day, so I think that would be a fun way to meet.

Well, it' Friday night, and I'm sitting here in my classroom. I need to clean up, so after dropping the boys off at parent's night out, I headed over, but it's much nicer to sit here at my desk reading the DIS, Pumpkin Spice Latte in hand. :surfweb:

Catch up with you guys later!
