10/26/2013 - A Western Fantasy Halloween Cruise

Question of the Day (week?):

A. What is your cruising history?
B. What level of the Castaway Club are you?

This is our 10th Disney Cruise, so getting onboard we will be Gold Members and getting off we will be Platinum.
In 2012, we completed our “Grand Slam” [been on every Disney Ship so far].

2004 – Disney Wonder, 4 Nights, Bahamas
2006 – Disney Magic, 7, Nights, Western Caribbean, Double Dip [2 stops at Castaway Cay]
2007 – Disney Wonder, 3 Nights, Bahamas
2008 – Disney Magic, 7, Nights, Western Caribbean, Double Dip [2 stops at Castaway Cay]
2010 – Disney Magic, 7, Nights, Western Caribbean, Double Dip [2 stops at Castaway Cay]
2011 – Disney Dream, 4 Nights, Bahamas
2011 – Disney Dream, 3 Nights, Bahamas
2012 – Disney Fantasy, 7, Nights, Eastern Caribbean
2012 – Disney Fantasy, 7, Nights, Western Caribbean
2013 – Disney Fantasy, 7, Nights, Western Caribbean

We won’t be cruising next year, so I’m hoping we will rebook while onboard for a 2015 Cruise on the Magic (depending on where she is going).

this will be cruise #5 for us (so we're gold after we complete this one)

My cruise History (my parents is a little different):

October 2010 - Disney Magic 7 night Western - my parents and I
March 2011 - Carnival Dream 7 night Eastern - me and my goddaughter
March 2011 - Carnival Dream 7 night Western - me and my goddaughter
August 2011 - Carnival Miracle 8 night Southern - me and my goddaughter
October 2011 - Disney Dream 4 night - my parents and I
October 2011 - Disney Dream 3 night - my parents and I
April 2012 - Disney Magic 4 night - my parents and I
October 2012 - Carnival Dream 7 night Western - my parents and I
February 2013 - RCL Explorer of the Seas 9 night - my parents and I
October 2013 - Disney Fantasy 7 night Western - my parents and I

And hopefully next year:

November 2014 - Celebrity Infinity 15 night Panama Canal (Ft Lauderdale to San Diego - East to West through the canal)
November 2014 - Celebrity Infinity 15 night Panama Canal (San Diego to Ft Lauderdale - West to East through the canal)

Right now we're Silver Castaway members but after this cruise (if we end up sailing DCL again) we'll be Gold.

Actually, it's not until the cruise is completed that you go up a level - from the DCL Castaway Club site:

As soon as you complete your first cruise you automatically become a Silver Castaway member. With each additional Disney cruise you take, you'll progress toward becoming a Gold or Platinum Castaway member, and enjoy additional benefits once you've completed 5 and 10 cruises.

And the bolding is theirs - so it was be a common question.

No, they were not 2 days in a row. I believe the times were about the same, 9-ish to 5-ish . . .

What can I say about us that has not been said too many times already...

We started cruising with Disney in Feb 2000. Our first DCL cruise was a 4 day cruise on the Disney Magic since it was our DD first cruise ever.

Since then we have taken 16 cruises with various itineraries including Transatlantic, Alaska, Panama Canal, Mexican Rivera, Hawaii and of course Caribbean sailings.

This will be our first time on the Disney Fantasy.

We enjoyed the Disney Dream Maiden voyage and it was so awesome to see the newer version of the DCL ships.

We make every effort to take at least one DCL cruise per year and sometimes we take two...never too many in one year!

I guess that is enough about us so I don't bore you too much...I can talk Disney, DCL and DVC forever!!!

oh PrincessTrisha. . . people are ready for the next installment of your story . . . popcorn::
Yes but I'm lazy. :cool2:

I had half forgot I started that...I'll probably work on it this afternoon since my job is so quiet (it's one of the reasons why I don't mind not taking time off during the summer - everyone else goes away so there's no one around to bug me!).

Yes, we will start to enjoy Gold on our next cruise. WBTA Sep 2014. :yay:

Although they should have more updates on the newsletter. I think it's the same one for about a year now. Oh, and the dessert recepies.

that was the first time I've logged into the castaway club site - I have never even looked at the newsletter - I'm guessing that it's not something they are putting a lot of focus on (if it's been the same one for the last year).

My cousin has announced that she wants to take her kids to WDW next September - and she wants me to go with them so now it's a big family trip (the 5 of them - my cousin, her husband and 3 kids) and then my parents have decided to go and me.

I wish I could talk them into a cruise instead - the kids are young (will be 6, 4 and 2) and I think they would love a cruise (and no pushing strollers around!).

But alas, it looks like it's back to WDW for me next year. Oh, the problems we disney lovers face sometimes! :lmao:

Maybe a land and sea vacation would be more appealing. Due to children age do only MK then a short Dream Cruise. :rolleyes1

I can't believe how big this group has gotten! Of course, it seems like almost everyone is over on facebook and there's only 3-4 of us who still post here.

That makes me a little sad. When I started my first WDW trip, and I found the DIS boards, it was like everything clicked into place - and then for my first solo trip to WDW, the DIS boards was amazing! Had a great DIS solo meet (dinner at Boma) and even made a friend to go to the Toy Story Mania DIS event. My first DCL cruise group on the DIS boards was just outstanding - so many events, so many activities, so much talk and what an incredible FE group (large FE groups don't bother me because our first one was huge!).

Facebook is good and it's nice to see people's real names. I just feel like there's a bit of magic missing from there.

Maybe getting up too early on a Sunday morning (why in the world was I up at 6am when I don't have to work?!?!) has made me nostalgic and sappy today. :flower3:

I do know what you mean. I met my best friend through the DIS 6 years ago. I have made so many friends here on the DIS and taken so many trips/attended lots of DIS meets with new friends (and old).

I think FB has affected lots of online forums/communities in that way, not just here.

I love the FB group but I do find it hard to follow/keep up with what's going on there.

I'm still here and post regularly on the DIS too though - it's kind of part of the job description ;)

I miss the first page of the thread with all the cruise info and activitys. :(

Maybe what happened here was the original thread starter is no longer on this cruise and slowly people wandered off to FB only.

Many people have joine FB without passing through Diss and I don't know if they know it even exists :confused3

I like Disboard b/c it's easier to keep info available.

You should see the WBTA Disney Magic Sep 6, 2014 cruise thread, It's massive. Longest one for me yet. :cool1:

I realized on Monday that I hadn't submitted my vacation request for this cruise yet :scared1:

It was approved today so no worries, I'm still going :thumbsup2.

I think my boss realizes that it's dangerous to stand between me and my cruises. :rotfl:

I know what you mean! I am totally terrified we won't be able to go. I still don't have the time approved from my workplace. When we booked the cruise and picking vacation time at work, it was January. Even though I have been there 25 years, I didn't realize I was picking Halloween week and everyone else requested vacation time also! Still waiting for someone to turn back vacation time so I can have it. Worse comes to worse, I work double shifts clumped and stagger
Onboard ship ready for a cocktail!

Ok, I bet this has been asked before but I really don't feel like sifting through 38 pages. I already skimmed about 5... But does anyone know what sort of Halloween, if any, festivities may be planned? I am thinking of booking this cruise but don't wan my kids to miss Halloween.
TIA

Hi, you won't find the info on this thread.

But to help you out the answer is yes. They will be doing Halloween festivities with full costumes contest and treak or treats and Disney Halloween movies.

It has been announced that just the Disney Dream will have also Halloween Plays. This is a 5 day cruise.

Also there's Pirate Night the night before which may require of your part another costumes. :cool1:

Hope this help you to make a decision. :goodvibes
