10/26/2013 - A Western Fantasy Halloween Cruise

Hi everyone! So excited to be a first-time cruiser on what looks to be a great vacation with lots of fun people!

I definitely will be needing some help on all the ins and outs of DCL cruising :)

I will try to join the FB page, too.

Need some tutoring on the FE activities to try and decide if we should participate. Can anyone give me a quick overview on not only what it is, but some good ideas for what to bring?

Also, any updates on what to expect for Halloween? My son turns 8 ON Halloween, so it's always a big day for us :)

Thanks!

It is my first cruise as well and my DS is turning 11 on Halloween as well! I am amazed at all the Disney advise everywhere! Felt like I had to take a crash course to figure everything out! I asked for group to be formed on FB for all the families with kids, and hope we can all have a meet and greet! I think you already found it looking now! :cool1:

I wonder if that princess/prince dinner is on it's own designated night one (like formal night and priate night have thier own night)?

Hi I am booked on this cruise with my family and have posted a FB request. I have never joined a thread before so am v excited. This will be our 9 th cruise with DCL :):)

We are going on our first cruise and I've heard about the FE and really want to participate. How do I get added to this? Thanks!!

We may possibly change our family vacation to this instead, I am also interested if the FE sign ups are still open?

The FE is still open I believe ... the list is on fb... I dont know how to add links here but if u look up A Disney Fantasy Halloween u can add your name

My partner Sarah and I are getting married aboard the cruise and then staying at the Animal Kingdom Resort for a week. This is our first Disney Cruise  we would like to participate with the FE's is there a sign up somewhere? Also, I heard there's a pirate night; is there a pirate night on this cruise if it's during Halloween?

Would also like to join Facebook page :wave2:

:fish: To sign up for the FE, you need to head over to facebook. As far as I know, the plan is to close the list either the end of this month or next.

pirate: Pirate night will be on Wednesday, 10/30 [my birthday!]

:clown: and Halloween is the next night [obviously!].

party: I believe we have 2 other couples on this cruise celebrating their honeymoons!!

This and lots more information on anything Disney Cruise Line is available a the stiky of the DCL Forum and it is alphabetized which makes is very easy to search for information. Thank you Ibgraves for doing this :thumbsup2

So just what exactly is a “fish” and just why does it need “extending”? Well… The “fish” is a combination wall decoration/ornament and message clip that is attached to the wall outside every cabin on the Magic & Wonder. The CMs (that’s “Cast Members” for the newbies) use them to leave messages, official forms or invitations for the occupants of the cabin as needed. It’s kind of like a glorified fridge-magnet and it looks like this: (click on the image to enlarge)

A “Fish Extender” is any thing that you care to hang on the fish. Literally anything will qualify, but in general, they are usually some type pocket organizer similar to a shoe caddy or mail organizer. They can be as simple as a canvass bag or as complex as your imagination cares to stretch. Here are a couple from our last cruise: (click to enlarge)

We’re are not very good with a needle and thread, so we engineered ours out of a couple of small cotton bags, a Disney themed bandana and some chain from a light fixture and ended up with this variation on the idea: (click to enlarge)

So, what’s it for? Well… It’s become a kind of “Secret Santa” game played by the folks who roam the DIS Boards. The idea is that every DIS Member who is on the same cruise will go around the ship and leave a little “nick-nack” or “whats-it” in the pouches for the other members that are playing along. The generally agreed rules are that you give out gifts to each participant once per cruise, and that the gifts should be very inexpensive trinkets that either fit a cruise or holiday theme and/or show off a little taste of who you are or the place that you call home. Here’s a link to a continuing thread on the boards that discusses the subject at length:

It is probably worth mentioning that on the newer ships, not all staterooms have “Fish”:

  • The FISH are on PORT side
  • The SEAHORSE are on STARBOARD side
  • The STARFISH are on concierge level

Here is a brief tutorial that I put together a few years back . . .

Great tutorial I didn't know where it all begun :thumbsup2

This is a picture of our FE although this time we are not participating DW and DD said something about luggage space and shoes :confused3 But I'm bringing it anyway just for door decoration :lmao: you can see the sea horse in this one.

Thank you! Our wedding is actually on the ship, honeymoon with friends at the Animal Kingdom Resort the following week. So nervous about the cruise......first cruise...ever...loving that it's a Disney Cruise. I have heard so many good things, can't wait for pirate night (so jealous of your birth date!) Thank you, for all the information.

And please join the Disbrides group on FB! It's a group of Disney brides from here and we talk all things Disney weddings! We have a good amount of cruise brides too! Tell them Morgan sent ya! We are actually getting married at WDW the Monday before the cruise, so this is our honeymoon! What day and where are you getting married? That beautiful lounge in one of the funnels? Every time I go to CC I see a wedding, but I have yet to see a bride on the ship!

Okay, by mistake I just posted thais on the entire forum and not just ours. Oh well, I am sure you may get some more FB that way. Usually, other will chime in and can fix what I missed or correct me! Check to see if anyone replies there too!

Pirate and Princess

I can only give you the information I have read since I have one done a 3 night and 4 night which don't have the princess dinner.

From what I understand it is not like pirate night with everything themed around it and an entire night of events. (party/bandanas/fireworks). But incorporated into formal night. There are children that dress the part but there are also people that don't even know it is occuring until they see the theme of the menu. Once again, unlike Pirate night.

I may have to dig myself up a tirara (or discretely borrow one from the kids stash). Then again, I would like so family photos for a xmas card and I don't know about the tiara
