Thank you.

And thank you.

Now where did you guys find that?

And here's something funny. Chuck asked me who would be able to tell us and my answer was: "Andy or Cass". "They can find the answers to all that is DIS"! :thumbsup2

Just thought I'd pop in and say hi. I hope all is well with everyone :goodvibes Things have been really busy around here and at work lately and I haven't had much of a chance to get on here. It looks like were almost done with this thread and I've hardly been able to read any of it
Rachel is at a friends this evening and Al is playing the Wii Fit so I actually get a chance to use the computer for a change until Rach calls for me to come pick her up from her friends.

Wow, you're loud! LOL :goodvibes

I've been busy with this new job and the possibility of planning either a Christmas WDW trip, a late Jan/early Feb 4-nighter or a spring trip. The whole thought of it all has my head :headache: . I hate making decisions and wish EB would just make a decison so I don't have to flounder back and forth on the whole thing, you know what I mean?

Mel I know what you mean. I pretty much plan our vacations. I ask Al for his opinion and he usually just says "whatever you think, you're the expert". It does get pretty frustrating at times!

We are going to be at WDW for Christmas this year! We are staying off grounds Dec. 19 & 20 and we are at SSR Dec. 21-28  A few other BOBers are going to WDW over Christmas too unless their plans have changed.

I sure wish someone would plan a trip for me from beginning to end. I would just love it! I have to do all the planning also. :sad2:

I shouldn't complain because I enjoy planning but I just wish I'd get a little imput and not have to make all the decisions. I actually really enjoy planning a vacation and researching it before we go. Next summer we are planning on going to Utah and Vegas and as soon as we picked that as our destination I had to run out to Barnes & Noble and AAA and pick up some books to read on what to see and do :goodvibes

i'm still waiting for disney to take my idea and open a new park.:wizard:
take all the old rides they close down. dismantle them, put them in a new park for us oldtimers...
just think, mr. toad, kitchen kabret, the original journey into imagination.
if you had wings, horizons, etc that would be some great park, eh?:wizard:

Sounds like a great idea :thumbsup2

I pulled the trigger and secured the back up flight. We are now flying AirTran into Las Vegas the night before our original departure to Los Angeles.

It is only $75 for the rental car from LV to the Alamo office near DL. We can get a room in LV off the strip for $40. The cost of the FF tickets is only $25.50 ($2.50 each for 9/11 fees and $6.00 each for seat selection - not rolling the dice with 3 different confrimations  ).

We'll still get into the hotel near DL the same afternoon as the original flight would have gotten us there. We may take our time before we leave LV since Suz' really good friend lives out there (might do breakfast or lunch with them before heading out on the 3 1/2 hour drive).

That is a relief for us now. Doesn't matter what happens in two weeks with the airline, we're set. :cool1:

O.K., time to cut the grass. Talk to y'all tonight.

Now I just need to decide if I want to fly in to LV and take no chance on the LA flight if the original airline is still around (there is the 13 hours difference between the backup and the original. Probably should have put the backup after the original, but we wouldn't have gotten in until Friday - i.e. we'd miss going to DL).

Then, to top it off, I'm thinking I might want the one night in LV. We won't get there this year anyways.

Not sure how I should look at this if we don't fly the original airline and they didn't go under. Is it that I blew 3 FF tickets only or do I look at it that the 3 FF tickets on the backup airline could have been used for a flight later (minimum $125 value, so $375). I can tell you that if I had to book last minute and pay (meaning no FF seats available) it would cost me a lot more than $375.

May not have to worry about it, the original airline announced today they are laying off 1,200 employee (40%) by mid-September. In earlier stories (end of June, beginning of July), they said they'd run out of cash in 30 days if the unions didn't give wage cuts. They're not budging, so my guess is they'll strike. Not sure if the airline will go Chapter 11 (reorganization) or Chapter 7 (go out of business). Either way, I think the next two weeks are critical.

Jeff glad to see you have a back-up plan in place after watching the news tonight. Things do not look good at all for Midwest :sad1: :sad1: We have pretty much resigned ourselves to the fact that there is a very good chance we will be driving to FL in Dec. The other airlines are just too expensive at this point to buy tickets with them and I'm not sure of which airline to trust at this point in time. At least our tickets with Midwest for Dec. were FF tickets too so we won't be out any money other than what the gas will cost us to drive to FL but at least we wouldn't have to pay for a rental car anymore. We'll just have to shorten our stay in FL by a night or 2 if this happens.

Are you flying or driving Cheryl? ;)

Come with us sometime Nancy and I will take care of it all. Friends of ours went to Vegas once with us and didn't have to do a thing.

I love planning too, but would love some substantive (sp?) input along the way. If anything, it spreads the responsibilty if something goes wrong, because you know they'll blame you if it does. Also, you know that it is something they want to do.

As for books, AAA has a lot. We just got the ones on all the National Parks in UT the other weekend.

It sure looks like we'll be driving doesn't it. It's a good thing our driving vacation last month went so well! We'll just have to pay close attention to the weather and hope we don't run into any snow or ice storms.

I picked up the Utah and Nevada AAA books and the National Parks book they had for Utah along with a Utah state parks book they had too at AAA too. I also bought the Frommer's Utah book and have been reading that one on my lunch at work. Looks like lots to see and do in that area :thumbsup2

Didn't read this post before I asked if you'd be driving.

At least if driving is your back-up, you can wait and see what happens with your ticket. We have to have a flight to the West Coast or we miss the ship.

Suz asked about driving down to WDW at Xmas, but if we leave the night of the 25th, I don't think we'd make it down before half the people leave.

As for MW, this 40% lay-off is in addition to the 35%-65% wage concessions they are looking for. This is NOT good news for them.

I did find out that my FF tickets on MW can be changed for $50 each, but I'd have to fly by Sept 18th. That's not going to happen.

Still unsure what I'll do if they are technically flying on the 13th. I just have this fear they'd go under overnight and we will have moved our AT flight to spring. Kinda hoping for them cancelling the MD-80 flights by Aug 1 and they move us to another airline, like NWA (although their not much better). Unless MW adds more 717 routes through KC, they will NOT be able to handle 2 full MD-80's passengers.

Yeah, ice from KY/TN south will be bad. They don't know how to use salt and the people don't know how to drive in 1" of snow. Kinda like the first snow fall in WI, people forget how to drive.

They sure do.

The funny thing will be when you fly into LV. Everyone will give you looks because you're bringing a kid to Vegas. Sorry, you can get to a lot of place by flying into LV. People don't understand that. They also don't realize that people work out there and retire there and people come to visit and never step foot in a casino. Or maybe a person wants to bring their family with them when they go to a convention.

Whatever, we make sure if people give us the looks we ask DS loudly if he's excited to be going to see Grandma (Suz friend actually, but a GM to DS nonetheless). Don't think it registers with them though.

I'm thinking that if we drive we will leave Thur. night Dec. 18 after Rach and Al get out of school and work and we'd stop on the way down at least one night maybe 2 depending on the weather. I'm glad our first night of our DVC reservation is for Sun. night, the hotel on I-Drive I can cancel up until 4pm the day we check-in. We are supposed to fly home on Sun. Dec. 28 but if we drive we will need to start driving home on Sat. instead.

They sure do.

Call us crazy but we're actually planning on driving. I have it planned into the trip to be able to take our time and drive out there. Driving to southern UT is only a few hours longer drive than driving to Orlando so we'll give it a shot unless airfares start coming back down which is very, very doubtful.

Hey guys. We just got done putting the finishing touches on Harrison's room. He has had the Cars theme going on for a while now complete with race car bed but tonight we finally got all the stuff put up that we had bought! It really looks like Radiator Springs blew up in his room.:rotfl: Very busy, but that suits him just fine. He loves it. He keeps talking to the cars on the wall.

You guys definitely needed a back up, no missing that ship!!! The uncertainty this close would drive me crazy :scared1: With the way things are going it does seem like they could be "here today, gone tomorrow"
