Question:
If you were coming to Va. what would you want to see? We are trying to plan our week when Sean and Cath come. Help me here.......:confused3

I would want to go to Harper's Ferry, Williamsburg, and Narrows, VA! and Snowshoe, Seneca Rocks, WV!

Paige,

when Jay and I were last in DC (summer 2003) we spent an entire afternoon at the Holocaust Museum and it was absolutely incredible - emotionally wrenching and strangely illuminating.

I know it's not possible, but I really think it should be mandatory for people to visit there. Not only to ensure that no one ever forgets it, but to remind all of us of the horror that people are capable of visiting on each over such inconsequential things as skin color, politics, national origin, cultural identity, and religious beliefs.

When I find myself making sweeping generalizations about someone I disagree with I always try to think of The Merchant of Venice and that speech that Shylock gives in the third act:

Hath not a Jew eyes? Hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions; fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, heal'd by the same means, warm'd and cool'd by the same winter and summer as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? ...

At the end of the day we're all the same ... our individual differences make us beautiful and interesting but we're all members of the same human family. That's one of the things that the Holocaust Museum drove home most powerfully to me.

Sorry ... I'm getting down off my soap box now. :flower3:

I just taught Anne Frank this year for the first time in several years (back in 8th grade). Anyway, it all hit me again, it is always moving to see how involved all the kids get. Have you heard of PaperClips and Freedom Writers. I used those movies (with permission) in the unit.

Many of the kids chose Anne Frank as their most memorable character of the school year.

It's wonderful that you're able to do that. When I was in high school we actually had parents complain about certain course materials that were related to the Holocaust.

PaperClips doesn't ring a bell but I'm familiar with Freedom Writers. Can I come audit your class some time? :goodvibes

WELL SAID!!! :thumbsup2

I had an aunt who was in Auschwitz and was able to tell some very sad stories. I also got to visit Hitler's bunker when I was in Germany but way too young to understand what happened there. :sad2:

Holy cow! She survived Auschwitz?

Holiday Weekend here in the States this weekend - we have Monday off.

It usually is the considered the beginning of Summer, although it isn't too warm yet here in WI.

Any big plans for anyone?

Got my new Passporter yesterday in the mail (they forgot to mail my freebie out earlier). Now I have some reading material for the weekend.

Our plans are nothing exciting for the weekend.

Seeing some friends on Saturday afternoon/evening. My Bro may stop by on Sunday. Monday and all the other open times on the weekend will be used working in the yard.

If Monday is icky out, possibility of that, but we haven't had rain now for a few weeks (substantial rain), we will probably head to see one of the new movies that have been released recently. I'm guessing Narnia.

No new news from Andy. I will try and call him this morning when I get to work.

Hopefully his phone line is up today so he can get back on here.

Mornin' neighbor!

I think we'll be planting the garden this weekend. We have a few errands (as usual) tomorrow and a party in the afternoon lasting until the weeeeeee hours of Sunday morning :goodvibes . On Sunday, Stacy's family is coming over for a cook-out and hopefully Monday will be a little down-time. I'm working on a few projects for Kristin's bridal shower that I would like out of my hair once and for all. :upsidedow

He did say because of all that went on yesterday near/at his place, he wasn't able to meet up with his DIS friend for lunch or watch the Wonder sail out yesterday afternoon.

Computer nerd came over last night to get rid of my BSOD. I better back up my files this weekend too. :scared1:

Poor Andy. Not really a vacation for him this time is it? :sad2:

Suz is planting her garden today - she took the day off (the office is closing down for the afternoon, so she took the morning off. Well, not really taking it off, since she made up all the time for today earlier this week  ).

Have fun at your party.

Monday, if you're just sitting around, we were possibly thinking of running to Mineshaft and a movie (most likely Narnia) up in Hartford. If it is crappy, you want to come?

I may swing by Uncle Sam's up on Hwy D to get some fireworks as well that day - they have a sale through the 31st.

Most people do that before they have problems Nancy. ;)

You should have someone show you an quick, easy way to back up your files. Oh wait, didn't someone already do that for you? :confused3 ;)
