I think we are staying close as well. I just asked my dad what the name of the beach that he was thinking we would go and he thinks it is Little Divi Bay. He says it is a great place to ride jet skis as there is a large bay there. That is what we are planning to do at our first port.

Yes, I was just reading about those last night. Thought it was a nice option to have (albeit a little expensive) if we decided to do it :thumbsup2

Sorry to see more people go :worried:

As for port stops.. i have been spending my time looking up everything available at each stop and listing them with cost and then when I can finally get everyone in one room we will go through the list and decide what we really want to do :) with any luck we will be happy with our choices. :cool1:

We still haven't decided if we are going down early or staying longer after the cruise.. so hard when my daughter is in grade 10 and will be missing school for this trip. I know Sean and I will be on many more trips.. but as for my kids who knows when they will have the chance to go again so I want to make it as fun as I can for them :goodvibes

As a high school teacher, I can certainly say - it is hard for most sophomores to miss a whole week which this cruise will require. Will her school let her miss more than 5 days in a row? Will they let her make up the work for credit?

Keep in mind that the week after the cruise is Jersey week :scared1: and that a good percentage of people tend to get sick on or just after a cruise. :rolleyes1 I learned that the hard way :scared:

What is Jersey week?

Aslong as we give in a letter stating the time frame of the vacation it will be fine and she will have to gather "homework" and such to do on the cruise at night to keep up mostly any tests and such will be made up when we get back. So hopefully all will be well ...my daughter is not the strongest student.. so i know timing wise this is bad but it was a opprotunity we couldn't pass lol. cross your fingers and toes I am not making a bad parenting moment...:scared1:

What is Jersey week?

Jersey Week came about because of the State of NJ Teacher's Convention is usually held during the week elections are held in November.

The Teacher's Convention is Thursday, Friday(public schools closed Th and Fr) and Saturday of that week. Our county closes schools Wednesday of that week for a countywide Teacher's Inservice Day and our local district, along with many others, are closed for Tuesday(Election Day). Therefore, only Monday of that week is a school day.

We have taken Lina out of school on that Monday making trips to Florida for several years. When we went to Vero Beach, one year during Jersey Week, about 3/4 of the people at Vero Beach were from NJ. I know a lot of people go to WDW and DCL during that week as well.

I'm sure you know your daughter better than any teacher or me, and I feel certain you are making a wise decision for her. As a teacher, I am a big believer in travel experiences for my students. Who is to say that student can't learn more from a day on a travel excursion with his or her parents than a week in my class? I would never begin to think such a thing. Of course I know there are two extremes and everything in between, but I feel travel is an enriching experience just as special times with family can be. If a student can handle it, I am ALL for it! That being said, I also try to make it as easy on the student as I can for him or her to handle it.

Well, I'm back home in foggy old NJ - better late than never! We were supposed to be flying non-stop from Orlando to Newark but we had to make an unscheduled pitstop in Baltimore for gas and directions! :rotfl: Most people did not think this was as funny as I did :lmao: Thank God Mom packed me a Christmas cookie goody bag, since it was a peanut flight and I might have starved to death. :scared1:

Say it ain't so Bendy and Jay! I am too devastated comment any further at this time.

Definitely a week you want to avoid in WDW. The whole state heads down and Continental makes a bundle on flights!
Interesting! Kathy, I can't believe how close your next trip is! I want details and pictures when you go please.

I am actually going to try my hand at a trip report this time :mic:. We are staying in the Concierge level of the Contemporary (Atrium Club) and doing some interesting things old and new - Disney Quest, La Nouba, Hoop Dee Doo Review, 'Ohana Character Breakfast, the Concierge Safari and checking out the the New Wave restaurant. And I'm guessing I will sneak in a spa-ah appointment in there somewhere, since the Grand Floridian Spa is only a monorail ride away. So, there should be some fun stuff to write about.

Excellent - I'll eagerly await every word!!!!!

Joanne did you get your 5X Disney Reward Dollars on Rogers TV?
Since I told you about it the other day Nancy called and certain things don't count. Example she asked about food shopping in a Super Wal-Mart which we have here in Brunswick and it does count.
So from now until March the Disney Rewards Card will be used for everything.
Think about it 5x on Disney Dollars until March.
Boy OH Boy will we have some fun on the Boat:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.

Dan

To be more specific, the 5x is only on groceries, gas, restaurants (full service) and airline tickets and only on thae amount that exceeds $500 each month for Jan, Feb, & March. Not as good as originally though but not bad either.

Hello everyone! :goodvibes

Hope you all had a lovely holiday and enjoyed time well spent with those who are near and dear to you.

Jay and I gave ourselves a pretty amazing Christmas giftie ... but it also required that we give something up.

Soooooo .... we were quoted an amazing price for the 2010 September repo cruise that sails from Barcelona to Port Canaveral (this amazing price included airfare ... wow!). Anyway we've always wanted a chance to try a more unique cruise and dip our feet into something on the other side of the Atlantic. So we canceled this cruise and booked the transatlantic instead - we just couldn't pass it up.

I know some of you will probably shake your fists at us since we canceled the 2007 cruise (but that one was out of my hands ... stupid foundation), but this other cruise is an opportunity we might not see again.

There may still be a possibilty that we could use our DVC to take this cruise, but I don't think Jay really wants to do that. So, please remove Bendy and her Bubba from the passenger list and add us to the "friends" list (if you'll still have us, that is).

More likely than not we'll be at WDW the week leading up to your cruise departure, and we would be tickled to meet with any of you who might be so inclined. We're really harmless ... unless there's food on the table. ;)

Best wishes to you all for a happy, healthy, joy-filled new year and a terrific cruise. :grouphug:

It sounds to me like your decision was a no-brainer. The chance to go to Europe trumps the Caribbean I think!

Now that reminds me of a "discussion" that was had at Palo brunch in September. Do you recall that one?!!!!
