So you're not doing a park at any time? If you can get into MNSSHP without a park pass then we will use one day on Sun. (we have 3 days left on our pass from Sept) because I think we would fly home on Mon.
N

We are staying until Monday too! We are planning on going to one of the parks on Sunday.

We like to use ours for both, we wouldn't be able to cruise as much if we needed to pay cash. Maybe when we have grandkids we will go to the parks again for longer stays.

We are paying cash for this cruise and using points for the transatlantic. I love our DVC.

We have 260 & only use a studio when we go so they do go further. I don't think we could do a cruise again so soon if we had to do it all with cash. Guess it's a matter of personal situations & preferences. What ever works to get us all there!!!!!

NK
With two young children we only save our sanity by reserving a 1BR. I think we'd go nuts without that at this point in our lives. We do dream about being able to extend our points by booking studios in the future. :cloud9:

We cruised on points once because we had points in holding and were able to get something like 20% off using our points because of a hurricane cruise. :wizard: I was pregnant at that time so cruising appealed to me over running around the parks. That worked out nicely -- using points to cruise is certainly a very easy process over making payments and all. You're right, though, personal preference.

Ok, a couple of thread housekeeping stuff to announce.

I re-linked all of the internet links on the first post. I guess they didn't copy last time and I was in a rush to start the new thread and didn't get to it until now. They should all work, but if they don't, just send me a PM and let me know. :thumbsup2

I added a "Friends of the Bash" cast of characters to recognize those that wish they could join us, but for various reasons had to cancel. WE WILL MISS YOU ALL!!!!

If and of you have any questions or comments, let me know. Our first post can change as new information and different things come along. I may dress it up more as my mind is starting to race thinking of ways to "pimp" it up a bit.

Great Job Chris! I like the logos up at the top of the page. And I love the idea of the Friends of the Bash even though it makes me sad...:sad1:

Thanks for taking the time to do this!

And to think you WERE once my favorite canadian....:snooty:

You still love me though right? Besides, I was never your FAVOURITE...that title belonged to someone who is currently about two feet tall :teeth:

Great idea for friends of the Bash Chris :thumbsup2 A few of the links still don't work for me though :guilty:

Mel, I think a few of us are in the same position too. You never know what can happen in a year though ;)

If I buy the non-expiry tix w/o park hoppers can they still be transfered to DL? or DCA? I don't care much if they are park hoppers or not since I rarely hop parks anyway. But the price is definately attractive.
Steve,
I have a 10 day non park hopping ticket and I use my unused days at Disneyland. You go to the ticket stall, give them the ticket and they replace 1 day with a 1 day DL park hopper. You have to do this everyday, and you will have to wait a few minutes while they go and process it.

How many points for the TransAtlantic?

It's supposed to be pretty rainy here all this week so we're hoping it finally stops for the 22nd although Kristin is hoping for a little snow once the reception begins. The reception hall has two entire walls of just windows and it would look beautiful if it would snow a little.

Yes, we do have guests coming in from all over. Arizona, Nebraska, Florida etc... Not many people responded with a "no".

dont forget about those ohio wedding crashers. :rolleyes1

Given the state of the economy I think we could all say this at one point or another. The big difference is that those of us who are DVC members can use points for the cruise so it's not quite as expensive.

N

How much do your points convert to? Does the 260 points you have completely cover the whole cruise?

You figure the maintenance alone on the points would be around $1,200 (using $4.50 per point on average). This wouldn't include any amortization of your buy-in. If it is today, about $2.00+, but we'll use $1.50, so another $400 roughly. That brings the total effective cost to $1,600 for the cruise.

Any money you would have to pay would be on top of the effective cost.

This wouldn't take into account the opportunity cost (i.e. you could rent those points for at least $10 each, probably closer to $12). If we use $11 per point opportunity cost for renting them, you are looking at $2,860. Now add the amount you had to pay on top of that.

A Cat 10 SPH for 2 people was only about $1,800-$1,900 for this cruise.

The one benefit given the economy is that if a cruiser, not using points, needed to cancel, they would be out nothing. If you need to cancel, you still have to pay your $1,200 for this year's maintenance.

So yes, you could cut the cost of your cruise down with DVC, but it isn't all that bad for those of us without DVC.

Not trying to ruffle any feathers, I can argue both the pros and cons of DVC. I'm personally trying to convince my wife into buying a block off the resale market.

There was room at the family table until about 20 minutes ago. I could get you a window seat though for cheap. You would have to sit in my car for that window seat though. Is that ok?? :lmao:
