Mike, Hawaii is gorgeous and you could easily spend 2-3 weeks there. I would say a cruise doesn't let you have the freedom to explore the islands the way you should. We only went to Oahu and the Big Island. I didn't really like Waikiki, WAY too commercialized for my tastes. There were high rises everywhere  And the beach wasn't that spectacular, very coarse, rough and BUSY! The rest of the island was gorgeous though.

I fell in love with the big island  Paradise on earth!!! ::yes:: We walked on volcanoes and inside old lava tubes, sat on black sand beaches. Kona was my favourite place :goodvibes And my favourite beach EVER is Hapuna Beach :lovestruc Most gorgeous sand and sunsets :worship: :worship:

Next time we go, we would like to see Maui and the big island again :thumbsup2 Can't wait to take Kira there :thumbsup2

Take a lot of $$$ though, it was expensive. :scared1: 6 big strawberries for $10 in the grocery store (and that was in 2000!) and it cost us $15 for two Big Mac meals at Mickey D's :scared1: :scared1:

If you go to Oahu, you can go to the Dole plantation, I think they have Dole Whips there ;)

where ya been rose?:lmao:

cassie got engaged in february when we took her and the boyfriend to wdw.

he proposed in the rose garden at MK.
he asked us in advance "what do you think about me proposing to cassie?"
to which i replied "propose what?' you should have seen the look on his face.
:rotfl2: :lmao:
they are very happy. there photog business is doing well and they just bought a house.
i'm still not ready to give up our baby though.princess:
wedding is planned for may 2009.
That is so sweet!

DS's kindergarten class is trying to do a postcard project this fall. What they would like is to send postcards to people in different parts of the country (or beyond) and receive a postcard from them in return.

If anyone would be willing/interested in participating, would you PM your address to me? You will receive a postcard from DS's kindergarten class here in WI, and they'd love to get a postcard in return. Their goal is to get a postcard from each of the 50 states, and also see if they can get postcards from farther away!

No pressure, just hoping to help DS's class! Thanks for listening.

That is my SIL's biggest complaint....the expense of living in HI. They live on the big island, too (army).

Call me a DCL snob, but I want to check out the new DCL ship in 2011.....:rolleyes1

Good evening all...

I had a busy afternoon and evening, but good to be back home and in my recliner. I had to catch up as it has been a pretty busy afternoon on the DIS!

Elaine really wants to try one of the Freedom Class ships of RCCL. She loves the look of the water play areas and some of the other features. If prices on DCL continue to rise, our next cruise after the BOB may be on one of those ships.

I like the idea of going to DL. I have never been to California and there are things in DL I want to experience including the Indiana Jones ride. Maybe I can plan it when the Yankees are in Anaheim too and kill two birds with one stone!

Disneyland is my favorite over Magic Kingdom...:thumbsup2

But the additional parks in Fla. makes the trip to California lack substance for long periods..:confused3

Not a snob, we are planning on cruising on the new ships as well, may not be right away (although hoping it will) but we will definately cruise at least once (probably more;) ) DCL is by far the prettiest ship out there and definately will be a favorite forever. I am hoping the Magic or Wonder comes out our way though, it would be a lot cheaper to sail that way.

I am just curious, but why do you prefer DL over MK?

The reason I like DL better than MK is that DL has a more spread out not so compact feel like the MK has. DL has a better Pirate theme to it, Small World has a better theme as well. There is a Indiana Jones ride (similar to Dinosaur), and a french quarter. The facade for the HM is different as well.
MK has Country Bears, where they took it out at DL and put in Pooh, which was not a very good alternative if you ask me (big Bear fan). DL has Mr Toad, where Pooh replaced it in MK. So I am not a big Pooh fan, stupid ole bear. DL has the better Fantasmic and Tiki Room as well. MK though has a prettier castle, and my husband love the Hall of Presidents. Toon town is better at DL as well. DL was Walt's park and there are aspects that show that.

Main Street is my favorite because of the buildings are made to look larger than they are.:)

Rides not at MK are Mr. Toads ride, Casey's Train Ride, Matterhorn, Mark Twain and Sailing Ship Columbia...:thumbsup2

Memories come rushing back, when I step thru the entrance...;)

I would really like to ride Matterhorn and the Indiana Jones Ride. Someday I will get out there. After the BOB cruise, our next big vacation will be a WDW vacation of at least a week. The kids really want to get back there, and I guess I do as well. I would like to go for a day pre or post cruise but the daily rates are VERY high.
