Good morning all!

Remembering where we were that morning.... Laxdad had won a trip to Manhattan the previous Oct. thru work. Our last night was spent having dinner at TWTC. We couldn't believe it when it came down. At the time, I worked in a busy real estate office with 80 agents. Our phones just stopped ringing. We went to the fitness center to watch on the tv. For 2 weeks, people weren't showing their homes - I don't think they felt safe letting strangers walk thru their homes.

Off to work. Have a great day all.

Good morning Susan

I was at work and found out when our receptionist came in crying. I have a tv in my office and everyone gathered around for the entire day just watching. Such a sad sad day. :sad1: (I had a customer that was in Tower #2. I have not heard from her since.)

My TA was at the Animal Kingdom when it happened. They heard the announcement for everyone to leave quickly. She thought an animal got loose so the adults formed a circle around the children and quickly left the park. She said some people were indeed panicking and running but for the most part everyone else was just stunned and didn't even know why they were asked to leave.

Good morning everyone...

Given our occupations, we and several of our friends and family were involved in the efforts immediately following the 9/11 attacks. The Salvation Army was the first agency on site and the last to leave. Elaine was dispatched to work at the Morgue to be a counselor and serve beverages and food. My father was sent to work at Ground Zero a week or so after the attacks.

I remember hosting a prayer service on the day of prayer...I believe on 9/13 and then gathering in my street with a candle that night with our neighbors.

I think I'll have prayer right now.

Seven years ago today I was exactly where I am now...in my living room watching the morning news here in Quantico, VA, and I watched it live alone in my living room (well, Alex was amost 2 years old and playing on the floor). Emily and Derek were just down the road at elementary school (Emily was in the same classrom where Alex sits today. Odd to me since we have lived in another state and country since then-lol.) and Rob was in class at Amphibious Warfare School. He called me to ask if I had the TV on, and I asked should I go and pick up the kids at school. We agreed that the school would let us know if we had to take action. For the next two weeks I did not leave the base. The security here got a lot more stringent in very little time. (The president's helo, HMX-1, is statioined here.) People trying to get on the base had a long wait, as everyone, absolutely everyone, had their cars searched. The teachers at my kids' school told me it would take them 3 hours to get to work (normally a 20 minute ride) for those two weeks. What a scary time it was, huh? My children had armed Marines, then NCIS, guarding their school for those two weeks as well--very unnerving, for me. Of course the kids took it in stride. Oddly enough, we knew people that worked at the pentagon, but none were injured, but we have had friends (as I am sure almost everyone here has had) to give their lives in the war since 9/11. Joanne, was Roger active duty back then?

But to end on a light note, we only have to go through one more 9/11 anniversary until we are all together cruising on the happy ship!:goodvibes

Have a great day y'all.:)

Just a few days after 9/11/01 my boss asked me to go to a Continuing Education Seminar that would requre me to fly. At first I was a little nervous, but I got more comfortable as time went on. When I checked into Portland Int'l Jetport in Portland, Maine and went through the same security that Mohammed ATta and his companion did, I immediately noticed a soldier armed on the other side. I was not nervous at all seeing him. If anything I was even more comfortable because I knew that soldier was on my side. He was one of the good guys to protect me from the bad guys. When I get the chance, I thank them and usually even take the TSA inspections in stride knowing it is there for my protection.

I remember the day very well, too. I lost a classmate to the tower attack.

I've been to Shanksville as well as the Memorial ground in NYC one year after the attack.

I remember getting the news while teaching a class, going back in to the class and letting them know what was happening. So many of our students have family and friends who worked at the WTC. I dismissed them immediately.

It still makes me very sad to this day.

And now my brother is in Iraq fighting for us.

God bless them all.

Working through lunch today peeps, just stopped home long enough to, well, that would be listed as TMI...........:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

See ya later folks.........:wave2:

Thank you to all who serve and have served our country to keep us safe! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

My heart and prayers go out to the families and friends that lost loved ones on that awful day. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I remember being at work that morning and when a friend came in to start her shift that morning she told me she had just heard about it on the radio. We didn't have a TV in our dept. at that time other so we turned on the radios and listened to all the news and then I watched it when I got home that day. I remember having to tell Rachel after I picked her up from day care that day amd trying to explain things to her.

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: and thanks from us to your brother and to all who have had to serve in this awful war--and all the other awful wars, too.

Goos morning all,

My 30 minute drive to work took 2 hours this am. Hurricane Ike- even though it is going to texas has HWY 98 flooded. So the beach road is closed and we had to go about 10 miles out of the way to get here. The traffic was awful. The water is not supposed to go down until Saturday. if I didn't have so much to do before vacation I would have stayed home.

I too was at work that dreadful day. I had a friend with an office in the towers, but she was at another office that day. My cousin is a cop in NY and he will never be the same I think.

Ok, Jeff, I think you need to post more pics to lift our spirits and make us smile!:thumbsup2

Where's the one of you and AFEG flashing for beads in the Panama Canal?:rotfl:

So, you work a day... take a day off to start a new species (SPORE computer game) and a little hula hoop (Wii Fit)... and try to catch up. The thread closes... and since you are addicted, you want to read the rest of the thread. SO... by the time you log on to the new thread... it is already at PAGE 20!!!:scared1:

Hi everyone! Now I have to catch up on this thread. The kids come home in about 2 hours and there is work to be done. But... I must continue catching up on the lives of the B.O.B.ers.popcorn::

Speaking of a warped mind, I'm watching Andrew Zimmern. For those of you who are just getting up and getting ready to have breakfast you don't want to know what he is eating at this very moment. He is in Iceland for this episode.

One of my earlier memories was a film they showed us in elementary school about Eskimos. They pointed out that the fish eyes were a special treat for the kids! Things like that kind of stick with you. I've seen Andrew Zimmern a few times. He makes the eyeball thing look positively delisious!;)

Here's something with humor before I go to work. It's called, "Tight With God". Subject: Tight With God

An 80-year-old man goes for a physical. All of his tests come back with normal results. The doctor says, ' Bill , everything looks great. How are you doing mentally and emotionally? Are you at peace with God?'

Bill replies, 'God and I are tight. He knows I have poor
eyesight, so he's fixed it so when I get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, poof! the light goes on. When I'm done, poof! the light goes off.

'Wow, that's incredible,' the doctor says.

A little later in the day, the doctor calls Bill 's wife.

' Ethel ,' he says ' Bill is doing fine! But I had to call you
because I'm in awe of his relationship with God. Is it true that he gets up during the night and poof the light goes on in the bathroom, and when he's done, poof the light goes off?'

'Oh my God!' Ethel exclaims. 'He's peeing in the refrigerator
again!'

:lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rolleyes1

You're correct in that things like strange things that are eaten stick in our minds. Just think, if schools, teachers, could associate all they wanted to teach us in terms of strange things people eat we all would have been straight "A+" students. :thumbsup2

Matthew was telling me about that game the other night. Perhaps you read about it as you caught up on the thread.

I am dreading catching up over tomorrow and Saturday. I have a funeral to officiate tomorrow, then I have to go to NYC for a meeting at 7:30 PM, then I am gone all day Saturday for a Men's Fellowship Camp day. When I get home Saturday, after Elaine rubs lots of Ben-Gay or Icy-Hot (playing softball all day) on me, I will have to settle in and devote an hour or so to catching up on a lot of pages.
