10/23/11 - Disney Dream

On to a Travel thought..

To any one who wants to Share. What have you all decided to do in Nassau???

Because we have a b2b planned we have 2 chances to get it right..

My DS & Friend will be doing the Dolphin Encounter at Atlantis

And We are planning a walk to the Queens Staircase and to do The Conch Fritter taste challenge at a couple of the restaurants on Bay road.. popcorn::

We're doing the Atlantis tour and Beach day. My kids will probably have a fit when they see the Atlantis water park (they're convinced they'll be attacked by sharks in the ocean in Bahamas, too many movies). I'm just beginning my business as a travel agent and wanted to see the hotel first hand. We're doing 6 days in Orlando post cruise and visiting Aquatica while there, so the kids will have plenty of water park experience on this trip. We did the dolphin experience in Cozumel in February, it was awesome.

Hello all! Just back from WDW and I came home to a stack of mail that included my travel documents! Yay!!! Now I have this to look forward to.

We don't have any excursions booked. We will probably just walk around for a bit. Atlantis seems expensive. :scared1: Where are you trying the conch fritters? That sounds like something we might enjoy.

On the Main Disney Board there was quite a heated discussion about the best Conch and 4 places came up as "the Best" "Conch Fritters" , "Imperial Takeaway", "Goldies" and "Poop deck" There was also place called "fishlips"..

Anyhoo We were watching that Man vs Food show on conch fritters down in Key West, But decided to give them a try in Nassau..

If you do a google map all those places are pretty much right off Bay road. "Conch Fritters" and "Imperial Takeaway" are the two close ones..

Now We have never had a conch anything except we bought a shell one time.. So after one bite we may pull the plug on this contest in a hurry ha ha ha.. Or a whole new food group may be open..

The other big conch suggestion was Cracked Conch...

So We will see..

We actually stayed in Nassau back in 1999 and at the restaurant at our hotel one night they had Conch Fritters on special. So I tried them. They were really good and I got them again a couple days later in town. Again, they are good.

You mentioning this now has me thinking of stopping for some somewhere near the port.

Thanks for this! We have a couples massage in the morning of our Nassau day then we're planning on getting off and walking around a bit (following a walking tour someone published), before sampling some Conch fritters.

Was looking through one of those tour books Of Nassau and they had a bit on the upper scale shopping over at the Atlantis - paradise Island???

So has anyone been over there with any comments????

There was a comment that someone posted about the Goat Pepper..

(Is that maybe one of the most awesome sounding Spices you had ever heard of )

But to pass on this warning

"if u do not like super spicy make sure u tell them NO GOAT PEPPER------- bahamaians use this to spice it up and its way hotter than wasabi!!"

Last year I wanted to grab a few souvineers from the Atlantis Resort. My DD fell in love with a hoodie and I figured how bad can it be? Disney prices $45-$55? I nearly had sticker shock with a whopping $98...:scared1:Neadless the say the hoodie stayed behind along with the overpriced shot glasses and t-shirts...$45 for the I liked.:rolleyes1The hoodie wasn't even a nice quality really and surprisingly DD didn't want it for that price, even though her parents were paying.:lmao:

---- Other then the Atlantis Souvenir shop were there other type shops????

And I have read about some of the out of pocket costs over there on just a sandwich & drink.. So that does make you think about picking up a couple of sandwiches up at Goofys (Sorry for Magic reference) and keeping them in a cooler before heading over there..

Do you know how far these restaurants are from the ship? Walking distance?

I too would like to know if any of them are close to the port and within walking distance. We'll probably get off the ship for a bit and do some shopping. Figure I could take in some conch before we go back on.

There will be several restaurants nearby that have it, just not sure about the ones listed.

That is a good question

Not having been to Nassau myself except for about 10 years ago, so I think these are in walking Distance.. But I have never tried to do it full of Conch fritters and Goat Pepper before... But lets see

Lets use as our starting point the corner of East Street & Bay Street. Which looks like a block or two from the Pier. And with your back facing the Pier..

"Conch Fritters" - Go Right 6 blocks on Bay Street. opposite British Colonial Hilton) Near Bailou Hill Rd

"Imperial Takeaway" - Go Right 6 blocks on Bay Street. Its just on the other side of the Pirates Museum. Near Bailou Hill Rd.

"Goldies" - Go Right maybe 15 blocks Hard to say, its Past Nassau Street, by Arawack Cay

"Poop deck" - This is in West Bay street by SandyPort Which looks like it is a mile or two away.. (man they had better be same damn fine conch)

A place that you can go and see pretty good maps and addresses is

www.bahamaslocal.com

A pretty nice little site, You can type in a business name and it will give you a pretty nice little map and detailed info on the business, Also some reviews...

We are doing the dolphin swim at Blue Lagoon on our 1st Nassau day & staying on the ship on Nassau day on the 2nd part of our B2B.

P.S.
Have I missed it somewhere or have we set up an official meet?

Thank you for the info. It sounds like the first two places listed are really close to one another. Also, appreciate the tip on the goat pepper. :scared1:

The casino was attached to a huge mall. The stores went off in every direction....everything from gold and diamonds to clothing...some high end. You could spend a lot of time just cruising the mall.:goodvibes

Just a totally stupid question.. Can you wonder the Mall for free.. or do you need to pay extra for the hand band?????

And the items in the mall.. would this be the same kind of stores that see at the ports like Cozumel, Grand Cayman or St Thomas????

Mucho thanks

The hand band was just for the aquarium tour. We took them off and wondered the mall and casino after. I found this on the Atantis website. It explains a bit more.:goodvibes

I cannot believe how these days are flying by! I am frantic sewing pirate costumes!

Can anyone here help me out with something? I have 3 little boys with autograph books ... but can only drop off 2 items at guest services for autographs/signatures. Is anyone here not planning on using their 2? Or do you think guest services would do all three for me? It's limit 2 items per stateroom, I've heard. Thanks.
