10/23/11 - Disney Dream

Thank you ALL for the rapid replies!!!!
We made the decision to upgrade and it ended up only costing $100. I think we made the right decision (and I reserve the right to upgrade again at the Port :lmao: ).
To answer some of the questions:
I emailed my travel agent as soon as I realized there might be a problem and she told me the options and the cost.
I won a copy of Passporter's Guide from a Facebook contest and it arrived last week (while we were at Disney). I finally started flipping through the book and realized that we had one of 2 staterooms with an extra small balcony. There was one review of that stateroom on the DIS and it said the same thing - the balcony had a bench seat but was too small for 2 chairs and a table. I'm not an experienced cruiser but I think I'd like to sit on the veranda and drink some coffee in the morning while my DH sleeps in (I'm a morning person and he's not really). When I talked to DH, he felt we should definitely upgrade (he was pretty angry about the situation - much more than I was). I emailed my TA today and the upgrade only cost $100. (She also confirmed with a friend who had been in 5688 that the balcony is quite small.)
For the FE - Please change my stateroom number to 5654!!!

Amanda

Amanda, I'm glad you were able to switch for not too much. When you mentioned aft deck 5 I was worried about those small balconies, they really should recategorize those balconies, plus I heard the noise from the bars below is pretty bad.

I am looking forward to our virtual porthole but I think I could be persuaded to trade for a veranda :rotfl: Im just afraid that once we sail with a veranda then we will "need" one for all future cruises :thumbsup2

Some people claim they need a balcony. For us it's a nice to have, but I usually opt for two cruises in an inside rather than one in a balcony;) This cruise is one of our rare balconies. When I sail on the Fantasy I want an inside so I can check out the virtual port hole:thumbsup2

We have always sailed in an inside cabin. We just don't know what we are missing ;)

Kinda depends on where you are going, To Nassau.. I do agree in side is fine, but like Panama Canal or Europe.. At least a Window.. But our goal is when we retire to do a lot of those last minute cruises on many many ships then we will not care where they put us..

Thank you! I'm happy with our decision and I'm glad it was "only" $100 to upgrade!

If your poor wife doesn't kill you first... :rotfl2:

Same with us. We have always had an inside stateroom. One time we did get upgraded to an accessible inside room, which was huge, but still no window or verandah. We might get a window for our next 7 night to Mexico.

When we spring for a balcony, it is usually an aft balcony, a corner after for the Panama Canal and a corner aft for a Southbound Alaska. One cruise we had an aft balcony and other friends all the way around us on a Carnival ship, they removed the dividers, we had both corner aft suites and all the blconies in between, that was one party zone:thumbsup2

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.. I yelled when I saw my mistake.. MUCHO Thanks it has been corrected.....

YES My ROOM is 5650.. That is the room that will be open..

Mike

Hahaha, 6150 is our room & I was quite baffled for a moment while reading that post, not because I mind showing our room, but because I wasn't planning on having room mates! Too funny :rotfl:

---Wow what a small world it is.. I fat finger a incorrect room number.. And the person who has the room is on line, on dis and sees it.. You know there may be something to this internet thingy after all..

All kidding aside I am glad you saw that so if someone does show up you know what happen.. And not worry.. It is to bad you are not 6650 you would be right above us...

getting close.. For anyone that wants to share

What is your favorite thing you like to do the 1st day on the cruise

I guess for me it is walking on the Outside decks with Bride at first dark, usually the wind is really blowing, the ship is sailing into the black night, You can still see the lights of the land off on the horizon, The kids.. The Kids.. Well... the kids are just gone somewhere. The Cruise is all before you.

First thing for me is FOOD.... Gotta get in early enough to get to Parrat Cay or Enchanted Gardens for that first buffet lunch (with Disney service), thats when I know I have arrived... (the next is that dreaded lifeboat drill, at least we don't have to wear those floatation devices now.. :upsidedow ).

Great question!! And a great answer too! I LOVE LOVE LOVE sailing away. Not so much the party but pulling away from the dock, waving to everyone on the shore and seeing the wide open ocean ahead of us. It is so exciting!

I can't wait to check out the new ship and see our virtual porthole. My hubby and I love to stroll the decks at night and go for a walk. This is our first cruise with 2 kids, so we'll see how much alone time we get :).

Wow this is a great list. Do we have 34 cabins total or 35? I didn't realize we have so many cruisers from Indiana :thumbsup2

This is a FE correction

David (sil) is NOT sailing, his replacement is Michael (ds) age 19.
