10/15/2011 - Taking the West by Magic!

Can you please explain about adding names and the activities you've got? I have been on another blog until I found this one today. This is our second Disney cruise but the first time we've met people online prior to sailing! This thread is so long I don't have time to follow it all to catch up!

Sure, in the very first post on this thread is the roll call. That's the people who have chimed in that they're going to be on the cruise, their names if they want them in the thread, and ages of kiddos. Some of the folks on the roll call are from a much older thread that was started over a year ago and haven't really talked much on this thread, so that's why it's so long.

We also talked about getting wristbands for the cruise for our meet thread. They're lime green (the color of the DIS, not this forum, but for some reason lime green is what everyone recognizes) with the title of the meet (Taking The West By Magic!) and the date of the cruise. With the amount of people we have, they're $2.35 apiece, you don't have to get them at all, just an option. If you want them, just let me know and I'll add you to that list on the first page.

We also have a potential meet brunch at Palo. OnkleHans is coordinating that, but the list of folks attending is also on the first post.

Pretty much, anything that we've tried to coordinate as a thread is in the very first post. Other than that, it's chatting and sharing in the excitement!

Wow! I go away camping for the weekend and it looks like we have half a dozen more cruisers and three more pages to read! Yay! :cool1:

I got a response to the fax to Palo:

We cannot confirm the Booking of the Private Room until September 15, 2011. The Disney Magic does not release the Private Room to the Cruise Activities Team until 30 days prior to the sailing.

If the Private Room is confirmed, any Guests that have their own independent Palo Reservation will have it removed. Each Stateroom is only allowed one Palo dining per sailing.

Once we can confirm the Palo Private Room for your party, you will receive a Confirmation Email. Please make sure to read and inform all Guests of the Policies and Procedures.

I have asked for more guidance about when we should send our request since they don't make a decision till September 15 and we may have the required guests by then.

I also asked if they could make clear their policy on one Palo dining per cruise. The website makes it seem that if a guest has a dinner reservation, the guest can also have a brunch, but this e-mail makes it look like a guest can only have one Palo reservation of any kind.

Yes, you can have 1 Palo dinner, and 1 Palo brunch reserved before the cruise, you can also have as many as you want once you get on board if they're not full.

hmmmm interesting :surfweb:

We stayed at the buena vista palace at DTD about 4 years ago it is a brilliant location for DTD you come out through the pool area and cross the road into the Disney bus drop off area, the rooms were lovely spotless clean ( we were there just after the refurb) the pool was also very good if I had to stay at DTD area again then this would be my choice. :thumbsup2

We stayed there too a couple of years ago. It was very nice and convenient to DTD. We had the princess party that we had gone to and the bus (Mears - not Disney) does take you to the transportation center but didn't tell us where they picked us up and that they didn’t pick up after a certain time. So one of the Nice CM's told us to get on the Saratoga Springs (?) bus and then we had to walk about half a mile with 2 sleepy girls to get back to the hotel. If we had known that we would have driven to the magic kingdom - oh well LIVE and LEARN ;)

Yes, just please send an updated fax with all the Guest wanting to dine in the Palo Private room for Brunch when you get the three additional people.

Everyone is allowed to dine in Palo one time for Brunch and one time for Dinner. So if you are only doing Palo Brunch in the Private room, then only those Guests dining in the Private room would not be able to book an additional Brunch. Booking dinner reservations at Palo would be fine.

Yay me!!!! (Why do I feel like Sharpei there? :rotfl:)

On a different note, I've heard back from the FE group, and we all agree that we'll change the close date from 7/31 to 9/1, so any new cruisers who are interested can let me know!

That's fantastic news about the FE exchange! I started a little bit on the gifts but not so much that it would make a difference. Hope everyone joins in the fun. :cool1:

How do we add our names to the thread at the beginning? Or do we just add them now?

:idea:I have been thinking about this one for a few days now - I know OCD :rotfl: - anyway what about possibly giving them presents to open up either the night before you leave, depending on what time you depart for the airport or in the morning. The present could be a letter letting them know that one of their favorite characters cant wait to see them on board the Disney Magic or since your son is a bit older :cool2:(aka cooler) for the characters maybe his could say you have reservation for kayaking on Castaway Cay, instead of letters maybe Disney or Pirate T-shirts, or you can probably make some voyage tickets to board the Disney Magic:wizard: I think someone mentioned a treasure hunt - that would be kewl pirate: o I meant arrrrsome

Sounds great! Thanks for the great ideas! I've got to get it all together and I've got to stop shopping! I'm buying so much for the trip and FE that I'll be broke before we leave! lol:confused3:mad:

Forgive me if this has been asked already. I would like to know just a general idea of what everyone's kids in the FE may be in to. For example, for the girls I've seen "princess" stuff that is not so adolescent but still says "princess" so Im not sure if that would fly for most of the 6-10 yr old girls? I know Pirate is always a safe bet for boys and girls. But I have a few other ideas and don't want to get anything too young or too old for the age groups.

Thanks!

My daughter 8, Ashley is getting away from the princesses...it is killing me:mad:. But she does like all the fairies. She will be turning 9 right after the cruise (Oct. 31)
My son Tyler is 15 and likes Mike from Monsters, Inc...but is a teenager and turning 16 right after the cruise, so we are suprising them both with the cruise for their birthdays, they don't know anything!

Any ideas for your children?

It's great that you have kept the surprise from them I would wait until you are on your way to the port and they have there first glimps of the ship. I won't forget the first time that we seen the wonder our girls were amazed :cloud9: but we had to tell them before hand that they were going on the cruise as my middle dd had a fear of boats :scared1:but luckily she left her fear in the wonder and she is so looking forward to this trip.
Same here dh has been busy Working all summer:surfweb: and on top of everything we are moving house in two weeks so it's been a little crazy can't wait until the 30th September and we will be on vacation for 3 weeks :worship:

That was my first idea...wait until we see the boat, but I'm afraid they will guess on the way there. We are going to Tampa first to see my brother and his family. Right now I'm thinking of doing it Friday morning and having a scavenger hunt and find the mini christmas tree with presents underneath. They open them to find their t-shirts, I already had made up with the cruise ship, our favorite characters and then the date at the bottom! Still thinking...but you all have some great ideas and sweet memories. Sniff, sniff.princess:

Thank you for your help with Tyler & Ashley! I think Mike from Monsters Inc is so cool! I figured if the 6-10 crowd moved away from Princess my next question would've been the Fairies.

My son (5) as well as our cabin friend's son (Aidan) love the new Disney Junior "Jake and the Neverland Pirates" so anything Captain Hook, Jake, Peter Pan would be Amazing!!

As for the girls- my 2 yr old, Natalie, she likes Tinkerbell, Minnie, really anyone. She's very easy to please. Anissa (7) our cabin friend's daughter, she is kind of going out of the princess/fairies thing. She's into Lemonade Mouth bigtime! Wizards of Wavery Place..all those shows. Thanks for asking!

I found this wonderful guy on e-bay that will do cruise magnets and T-shirt transfers to match. In the portholes it has your favorite character and your name underneath it also has the date of your cruise underneath, if you wish.

Anyway, look up johnandchel on ebay or the The Honeysuckle House of Design is the name of his store.

He has been great to customize it for me. Anyway..I just thought I'd send this along. If I could put a post a picture of it I would.

Anyway...see you all soon!

Can't wait.
Renee

I can't remember who was asking about interests, but my DD Rebecca (5) is totally into princesses, fairies, and just about anything else Disney!! She's really easy to please, and so is my DS Kyle (8). I'm sure anything in the FE will just make their trip no matter what it is! :goodvibes

Does anyone know if the T-Shirt place in Downtown Disney has any cruise ship designs? Totally busy with my move, so I was just going to have them made there when we get to Orlando a few days before the cruise. Thanks!!

Nope, I don't know, I don't think I've ever even been in the T-Shirt place. I know there are some cruise designs at the DisneyStore.com, you could get them there, but they don't do custom stuff.
