Bette, my philosophy is "if it isn't broke, don't fix it!" I don't care much for the new format either, but at least the board is still available!

Rae

You're right Rae....and have a glorious trip !!

Bette

 It's great to be home!
We had a wonderful trip to Washington DC and North Carolina. We got to see most of the sites we wanted to see, and the weather was nice (cold but sunny). After 2 days in DC we headed to Moorsesville NC to see some of the NASCAR garages DH has always wanted to visit. Since fellow DIS'er LauraRN and family live there we got together for a fun dinner, and the next day Laura showed us around her loveley town.(Laura we ate at the Mexicain place...very good! Thanks!) The drive from NC to Charleston was only 3 hours, so I think we will visit Mooresville again. Since it was Sat/Sun several things DH wanted to see were closed, so we will be planning another trip soon.

Rae...have a wonderful trip!

Doug and Christy...so nice to hear from you!!! It would be wonderful if you can join us in 2006!

Ave has been having a hard time getting on the "new" boards :badpc: but hopes to be back on soon.

I kinda like the new format

Welcome home Mary and family. :cool1: ::MickeyMo glad that everyone had a great time.
Eric I saw on the news where Snow White in Dresden got fired for doing a nude photo shoot in a tub. Mike

We are leaving for Mexico City on 12/8 and returning 12/14 - if anyone wants anything, please drop me a line before that! Our trip is a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Guadalupe's shrine and other Catholic sites. We are very excited about this trip and just can't wait to go!

Hoping you are all well and enjoying the post Turkey Day, pre-Christmas season!

Rae

Rae,
you may be interested to hear that they eventually found a new use for the 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt: It's going to be the new General Consulate of the USA in Frankfurt. Right now the Consulate is situated in a residential area. Due to the required increase of the security level this has become a pain in the *** for all the residents there as this street is more or less blocked by concrete blocks and barbed wire. The former hospital grounds offer more than enough space to establish a perimeter without infringements for the people living around it. I just passed it on Sunday and they already set up a 10-12 feet fence and have construction going on in the buildings.

Mike,
I'll have to check that Snow White - thing.

Wow! Thanks, Viking! Are you aware of the multitude of underground tunnels in that building? It's incredible and actually very maze like. I had so much time there that I did a lot of wandering (daytime only!) - had heard stories of it being "haunted" and used during the war, etc, etc, etc. Not one to push my luck with the supernatural, I just stayed where people were!!!

Plus the hospital grounds has a helipad that would benefit the Counsulate. IF you ever get a chance to snap a picture of it, I'd appreciate it. During our trip to Germany, our friends were more excited about showing us Weisbaden than Frankurt - so we just kept quiet and had a wonderful time with them. Sounds like I need another trip East to visit the "old stomping grounds"!!

By the way, Germany has the best pastries in Europe - hands down! And since I can no longer have them, eat one for me!!!!

Looking forward to this cruise with you all so very much - there is much to be said about cruising with friends!!!

Hugs to all,
Rae

:guilty: :earseek: OK ... I'm lost. This new format is going to take a lot of getting used to.

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving and got to spend time with family and friends.

Our house is 27 years old and you can imagine how much the styles changed.
A few years ago we re-did our front door with one of those fancy schmancy ones with the cut glass (really great looking) BUT now it's the kitchen's turn.
Have reallllllllllllly dark cabinets with dark hardware ... well in the last 2 days Art and I have been hard at work. So far 2/3 of the cabinets have been painted a really nice light beige, which will match my newer stove and frig. We picked out hardward that is silver or stainless in color with porceline (sp) inserts for the handles ... goes really nice with the new microwave in stainless steel color we just got (no idea how old my other one was but the "0" button no longer worked!) Art is going to do the front door of my dishwasher in the same beige color and after the holidays the avacado sink is going to be replaced by a stainless one. My avacado color stove hood is history and we found a nice one in stainless. Hope you can visualize how darn dark my kitchen was.

After we finish with the kitchen we are going to install Pergo flooring in the entrance hall, bedroom hall and kitchen / dining room area. The rug gets a "path" affect that drives me crazy, so I'm thinking a nice light wood look will brighten things up. Not to mention a dust mop is a heck of lot easier to use than the darned vacumn cleaner.

Can you tell I'm :flower1: to get these updates going. Only problem is "WE'RE NOT AS YOUNG AS WE'D LIKE TO BE ... BONES ARE SCREAMING!"

Has anyone out there had the Pergo? Did you do it yourself and was it easy to do?

Poor AshLee wasn't a happy pup when she couldn't find her food and water table. Did she ever give me tongue lashing. Actually pretty funny watching her trying to find some open floor space big enough to take her NAP on. I'm telling you when I die either I come back as one of my pups OR sprinkle me on Castaway Cay - Serenity Bay!

Well got to try and get some of these cases off of my desk ... check on you later if I can.

Cathy:

Andy and I put hardwod floors in our kitchen, The best thing we ever did. Due to our laziness/inexperience we actually hired a neighbor who is a master carpenter to do the work, He did a great job but I think even he was frustrated doing the work. Of course hardwood is a lot harder than pergo to work with. I think most of his frustration was the machinery we rented to help him(it wasnt much of a help). Wood floors are the best.

Arlene

Arlene ... that's good to hear. Tools shouldn't be a problem with Art, cause he has a lot of toys in his wood shop downstairs. With the Pergo, the pieces just lock into place like Lincoln Logs. I guess I'm kind of worried about moving some of the heavy appliances like the stove, frig, washer and drier ... oops I forgot to mention that my laundry room is off of the kitchen and it's to be included in the new flooring.

Rae,
shooting pictures of an American installation wouldn't be the wisest thing to do nowadays
Yes, the hospital is like a 3D-maze. Before I went into aviation I used to be a paramedic and I often was in th 97th - Usually we had to bring drunken GIs there :earboy2:

Wiesbaden is very nice, but Frankfurt rules pirate: Come over and the pastries are on us :mickeybar

We booked our next vacation today:
On April 9th we will fly to Bangkok/Thailand and will stay there for 3 nights in a five-star-hotel. Then we'll fly to ****et for another 9 nights in another five-star-hotel situated directly at the beach. The best thing is the price: For the flights, 12 nights in five-star-hotels & breakfast buffet, a couple of excursions, a spa-treatment in Bangkok, 2 massages in ****et, 1 green fee at a golf course (Which we won't use :smooth: ) and all transfers, fees & taxes will pay just €938 per person :cool1:
I already checked out some dive centers and we'll put in some more quality time underwater. And the best: It's jsut a bit over 4 month til we fly there :jumping4: :Pinkbounc

okay - i'm really curious to know what ****et is. Can we get some hints?

Arlene

It's a peninsula in the southeastern part of Thailand, it spells P-H-U-K-E-T
And I don't have a clue why that harebrained net-nanny converted this into ****et :sad2:

Hummmmmmm....I think I know why the **** are there.

Had the hardest time trying to get on the boards the other day. Stupid Computer! :badpc: So I just waited one day and tried again. This time it worked without a problem.

Doug and Christy, SO GLAD that you are thinking of joining us! More is better! :smooth:

Cathy, Your remodleing sounds great. (The outcome, not the work involved) I'm sure it will turn out lovely.

I'm taking the next 2 days off!! :earseek: Doc is out of town till 12/6. Might even get some Christmas shopping done.

Later,
Avé

Ha-ha, they finally got somebody else! Makes me so happy I just want to say b-o-o-b-i-e!

Does anyone else have to log in every time you visit this board? I am getting a bit tired of doing that.

Cathy -- What are porceline inserts? Our house is 25 years old. We painted the dark cabinets an ivory color some years ago, but the paint on the cabinets that get the most use keeps wearing off by the handles. My original plan was to put a coat of polyurethane over the paint but all the paint stores advised me not to do that as the poly would yellow over time. I have been looking for something to put behind the handles but haven't been able to find anything like that -- some kind of plastic or vinyl. Good luck with your remodeling. We have recently recarpeted the upstairs and will recarpet the downstairs after the first of the year. I still have a gold sink and stove -- plan to replace those, too. Then if we can find something we like in a new development, we will put the house on the market. We may like the renovated house so much that we won't want to leave, but I do want to get a house without a pool and all the work it needs to keep the water sparkling.

Jeanneg -- How is the house selling going? This is not a very good time of year to sell with the holidays, but hopefully your luck will change after the first of the year.

Hello All

I have been bad. I have been lurking and haven't checked in since we got back from the cruise. It just makes me want to go back again, and well, you know...just not possible now. We are not back on the list because there is a slim to none chance of us being able to join you for Cruisetoberfest IV. :sad1: M&M64 is a school teacher, :teacher: and it will be over a year before the 05-06 school year schedule is available. It would be a complete suprise if the fall break moved. It is week 1 and 2 of October now. Enough sadness for now.
We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and are on track for more Happy Holidays.
Is anyone going back on a DIS cruise anytime soon? I would love to have the recipe book from the gift shop on the ship that has the recipe for the Lasagna Bolognese. I have searched Disney top to bottom, and can't find anything from the ships. Or, if someone can point me to the recipe somewhere, that would be good also. Just beam me to CC Scotty.... :teleport:

Happy Shopping,
Allen
