Mike,
Dh is going to TN today on business. They are going to check out a local winery there in their spare time. Somehow, I never heard about that good ole Tennessee wine. Have you? I told him, 'try it before you buy it!'

Andy and I would love to meet up with you guys when you come to our part of the country. The 'Odd Couple' is coming to Broadway in October starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick and was wondering if anybody was interested in getting tickets. Or being that these are disney people go for the lion king.

Arlene
The Odd Couple like Matthau & Lemmon or Klugman & Randall?

But I already talked to Anja about going to a show: She'd prefer seeing more of the city and meeting our friends. Shows are nice, but it's so 'un-communicative' ;) Ya know wadd Ah mean :chat:

Eric:

What are the dates you guys going to be in NY? Andy and I would still love you meet up with you guys. It actually is good for us too since being a native New Yorker we dont do a lot of the tourist things in our own area. We have done some of them but there are others I would still love to do...

Arlene

Jennifer there are quite a few wineries located in TN. I have not been to any of them.

Hope that everyone has a great day. Mike

Arlene,
we plan to be in NYC over the Columbus Day Weekend 10/8-10/10. The final planning will be done after our return from Vienna. Say, around Mid-July.

Same goes for me about the touristy stuff. I've never been higher than the base of the Statue of Liberty or to the Empire State Building. New York has some incredible museums, but there's no way you can see the entire Met in one day. What is your ceiling price for a room? We know of a nice little motel on 10th Ave in the theatre district that doesn't charge for a car if you leave it parked the entire time, i.e.no in&out privileges. Are you planning to arrive Friday evening or Saturday morning. I know Monday is a holiday, but we would have to leave Sunday evening.

One place I've never been and always wanted to go is the UN. I wonder if you take the tour bus around NY are you able to get off and on where you want??? I guess being a NYer I should know this but like I said I havent done too much of the touristy stuff - I have gone to the World Trade Center and Ellis Island(which is cool to go to) and some of the museums but other than that not much....

How much is that motel per night?
We probably wouldn't need a parking space as Peter said something about taking the bus.
It would be graet if we all were at the same hotel/motel or at least in the same area.

It's actually funny talking about doing touristy stuff. Jim and I walk by a bus tour company after the Jays games and keep saying that we should go on it -- when the weather is warmer. Although we live here there are lots of places we haven't been. For instance my DS has never been up the CN Tower -- the fact that I'm afraid of heights has something to do with it but still since he lives here he should have gone up it. It's expensive though.

We are still trying to figure out if we can get down to see Eric and Anja when they are in New England.

I just checked and the rack rates are $219/night......we could probably do better with one of the travel sites. We like this one because the the parking and the fact that it's right in the theatre district....which makes it kinda pricey. The web site now states "discount" parking as opposed to "free", but that's probably not a concern. If the theatre is not a priority, we can do much better....all you need is to be close to a subway line and in a relatively safe area. Tell me your top 3 choices for what you'd like to do/see and we can hone in on the area. Also, how much per night would you like to spend for a room?
Jim, Fiona: please try to come! Have you seen Star Wars yet?

Do you have a link to the motel?
And we have to wait for Peter& Jenn. BTW, they managed to get a room at the Hilton for $100 a night through Priceline last year.

Fiona & Jim,
we'd love to meet you in NYC :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Nearly forgot to post that I will see Star Wars III tomorrow: Anja had to take over tomorrow's lateshift on short notice, so I used the opportunity and made an online reservation for the 0730pm show at a multiplex near Anja's hospital. They're showing it at their three largest cinemas, seating 780 and 2x 439 people.

Wow! the Hilton for $100/night.....works for me just fine!
Here's the website address: skylinehotelny.com

Jeanne--- Is this the same hotel that features rodents?
I was just checking the Hersheypark website for a friend and found that Paul Revere and the Raiders are going to be in Hersheypark Ampitheatre on 8/21. I guess Norm and I will have to make a trip there to see them. We are now eligible for senior citzens discount at Hersheypark. I might look into a season pass just to go to the concerts as they also have Kimberely Locke (from AI2), Chubby Checker, Bowzers' rock and roll review, Gene Pitney, and Herman's Hermits coming this summer. It can be a summer strolling back memory lane.

Tracey--- Thanks for listing the songs that Orleans sang. Have a great trip.

I would love to do the NYC thing with everyone, but Norm hates NYC and I don't think I will be able to get him to come along. Plus it is only a few days before my big conference and I maybe in total meltdown by then. Time will tell.

Arelene--- Nice to see you posting again.

Nancy

Ha-ha. No, the vermin are featured at the Hotel Pennsylvania....and I wouldn't recommend that place to my worst enemy!
That concert series at Hersey Park sounds like a blast. I saw a special on PBS a few weeks ago that featured alot of old bands. Eric Burton (from the Animals) was on and I couldn't believe he was this chubby old guy in a Hawaaiin (sp?) shirt. Then I realized that I'm almost just as old as he is and it made me feel so ancient!

Hi Guys, Bette & kim here...

Well we are slightly recovered from yesterday, but will still hit the sack early tonight. After being out on deck from 3:30 am until 4:30 pm we were zonked. Did I mention that I found out today from a castmember that is was 102F in the shade on Deck 10.

Tomorrow is another sea day, and then Monday we will be in Acapulco.

JeanneG... No villan art work to be had, however Ducky does have 2 pieces, one is "Friends" the other is "Crew", both are mushy type drawings @ $ 15.00 each. Let me know if you are interested.

Anyone else need/want anything from the ship or Disneyland ???

The Magic is rockin pretty good tonight, Rocks me to sleep real nice!!!

Sorry we are not sending individual e-mail updates, the computers are still royally screwed up and already tonight we have been kicked off 3x.

We will run now, ( No, not literally)
Bye, Bette & Kim

Hi Kim & Bette. I'm so glad you're having a good time. Don't get too much sun. You don't want to spend the cruise sleeping it off!

You asked if we wanted anything. Would you please look to see if they have any Italian charms of the ship? You know what those are, right? They're the links you buy & change out blank links on a bracelet with the new ones. They hadn't commissioned any as of last cruise--but maybe....

If you do see any, please pick up two. Heidi & I each have bracelets.

BTW, this is Marianne. I just noticed that I'm logged on as Heidi, and I'm too lazy to sign off & retype.

Have a great rest of the cruise.

Love, Marianne

Had to take scarlet the volkswagen beetle in this morning to the tire shop as we had picked up a screw in the left front tire causing a slow leak. Had it repaired and now she is good to go. Got to love that 34 mpg around town especially with the high fuel prices. Mike
Mike, is Scarlet Diesel? My Gus (black beetle) is, and I get almost 40 mpg! Since most of my driving is 2 miles each way to the train station, that works out to what.....

Filling up once a month?

Just kidding. I do more driving than that, but my commute is usually to the train.

I just took him in for his 20K maintenance. The dealer (which I usually use) wanted more than $400, but there's a great mechanic here that only charged me $200. Figures I found him a month before the move!

Speaking of the move, everything seems to be going well. We're packing away. The kids & I have a tally going--whenever someone packs & seals a box, they get a tally mark under their name. Really boosted the kids' enthusiasm for packing. Of course, they tend to just toss whatever's on the shelf into the box. I spend more time organizing. I will put the DVD's back in their cases rather than packing the empty cases.

It looks like you could guess, I'm losing the tally war. Oh well.

Gotta run. Got some divorce cr*p to deal with tonite. Have a great night everyone.

Regarding tourist sightseeing in NYC - Rich was born in NY Hospital and has never been to the top of The Empire State Building OR the Statue of Liberty. I BEGGED him to go to the SOL prior to them closing it a few years back for renovations (pre-9/11) but he believes there are just too many tourists in NYC!!! :rotfl:

While we would not be staying in the city (we'll drive in and meet up with you guys), Rich says there are several hotels downtown that may be reasonably priced and the area would be a bit quieter on the weekend. There is a lot of history and small museums off the beaten track in lower Manhattan. He's telling me right now that there is a Piano Museum down there.... I just looked at him. He says "There is!!" Okay, just what Eric and Anja want to see.

Bus tours are good according to Rich (even though he has never been on one). You can get on and off and they have two of them - a mid town loop and downtown loop. Very informative from what he hears. There is also the Circle Line around Manhattan. There is also the Intrepid which I have been wanting to see and so does he. And he is sitting here telling me something about some Tiger thing boat that goes real fast and has teeth on it ?? :confused3

Chinatown, Little Italy. Empire State Building, Central Park, South Street Seaport. NY Library - much bigger inside then it looks with those stone lions guarding the steps outside. Lots to do. Lots to see. Lots of time to plan.

So, we will definitely be meeting up with you all three days, if you like, in the city. Also, remember, that if at all possible and time permits, would love for you to come about 50 miles east of Manhattan and visit us in our home too.
