10-14-2006 Cruisetoberfest IV

jeanneg...I had already linked my dinner reservations with Arlene's while making the reservation but there is a very real possibility that we will be cancelling the cruise. When I made the reservation, I didn't have a calendar and thought that it would be Columbus Day week so Sarah would only miss 4 days of school however, Columbus Day is the week before. When she came back to school, she had a less than gracious English teacher (right from Ireland with a brogue!!) who Sarah would like to have deported...she really came down hard on Sarah (after calling us before the cruise to tell us what a nice girl Sarah was and what a pleasure she is to have in class)...Sarah had gotten a 77, an 80 and a 94 and 95 in tests and she felt that Sarah was not performing in an academic manner to remain in the honors program..(She believes that everyone in the honors program should get a 90 or above!) In all of her other subjects, she is maintaining a 98.25 average.. I called the assistant vice principal and asked for a meeting with the English teacher who informed me that personal problems (i.e. Sarah affected by Sam's job loss) should not affect one's school or work performance (wouldn't meet with me but discussed it over the phone)--I was livid and decided that both Sam and Sarah needed to have a meeting with her face to face (I was afraid that I might punch her if I had been there!!). A meeting took place and all is well...She told Sam that she was thinking about personal problems and came to the conclusion that they may have played into the 77 and 80!! Sarah was even given a hug by the teacher!! Anyway, she will be in junior year and when I spoke to the Assistant Vice Principal, he told me that if her grades continue like they have been, she will be in all of the advanced placement classes as well as a College Board prep class which is too important to miss.

Sad to say, but I think that Sarah's school needs/college prep needs are going to win out on this one. We are thinking of a Christmas cruise in 2005 on RCCL though!! Mary Jo

Mary Jo -- I can empathize with you. Ciara will be in a similar situation academically. Luckily, I think it's early enought in the school year that you won't miss much and they are typically still doing review.

and she is also in the HS marching band, and her band director nearly had a stroke this year about her taking time off, we haven't mentoned the next cruise, which would again take her out during competition season.

I'll really miss you and Sam and Sarah, that means we'll definitely have to get together at King of Prussia.

Chris and Denise -- I see we are going to be "almost" neighbors again. Hope that magnet freak stays away this time. Can you imagine anyone turning our magnets upside down -- simply awful! How many times are you going to see Disney Dreams this time?

Mary Jo so sorry that you will not be with us on the next cruisetoberfest. We understand completely. Education lasts a lifetime and is not to be missed.

WOW, great job Eric, as always (excepting of course you having Peter and Jen rooming with Winotracy!))

Looks like the port side of the ship on Deck 2 is full of DIS'er. I am SO glad than none of you took our state room before we had a chance to book.

AND I AM SO HAPPY DCLFAN and family will be on board!!

But yet so sad that Sarahsmom and family MAY not be able to join us. I am hoping on hope that you guys may still be able to make it but can definitely understand how school would come first for Sarah. **crossing fingers**

Jeanne - that magnet turner better stay away! We are THIS CLOSE to being booked! Got four different quotes, just need to hall myself down to AAA travel to get theirs, for 2006 and hopefully for WDW 2005! It is jsut so cold outside, I'd rather stay in where it's warm! We will be trying to get the same room location againn, I thought it was great!

Bette and Kim - got the patches in an envelope ready to go. Will drop them off at USPS Monday. Eric - I still have 1 new patch that doesn't need to be sewn on a uniform. If you would like it sent with a couple of our older patches, drop me a line and I'll send them right out!

Chris said to keep us in the loop for diving. He has put his foot down for trying to get dive certified by 2006! Me, I just want a calm stomach and no sunburns!!!!

here's an extra motivation for you: You could join us in Cozumel for a couple of dives. We did it last year and was our greatest dive so far.
