10:00 am check out time

It seems like alot of the Orlando timeshares are going to a 10:00 am check out time - do you think that DVC resorts will in the future? Or do you see them staying at 11:00am?

I would like to see them change it to 9 am and enforce it. There are too many people trying to make the departure day a day to stay in the units-get them out so arrivals can get there units early and enjoy the day. I am out by 5 A.M. usually and on my way home before most of Orlando has time to wake up. I would not expect everyone to do it my way but this 11 o'clock is outrageous, especially in light of the fact that rooms are slow getting prepared because of people hanging on to the last minute.

Sure hope there isn't a change to a 10 check out time. Yes would be nice to be able to check in and have room ready before 4, but at lest if I get there before then and room isn't ready i still have options of diferant things I can do till my room is ready. The last day give me time to pack and leave without feeling like your pushing me out the door. No one leaves any sooner then they have to, but check out isn't usely the reason for the time we leave anyway, it is our flight, or other travel times that make that for most people. As it is now some people leave very early, some push till the last min and maybe a little over. But more then likely those few that push it don't slow down the cleaning people b/c everytime i have seen them there busy cleaning a room for the next people. So seems to me as it is works good enough, maybe they need to force the 11 time a little harder, but then we would hear people complaining about that too.

I would like to see LATE check outs at DVC. I couldn't beleive that in ALL of the DVC resorts they don't allow late check outs. Late check ins would also work for us. We didn't get to the hotel until 9pm on this last trip.

We also fly, and certainly would not want it to be any earlier.

For those of you who are early birds, that just gives mousekeeping something to do while they're waiting for the rest of us who check out at 11:00.

when DVC was OKW - they had late check out - but more members wanted an earlier check in and are they got up to a certain membership and say that they could longer do both.

I am just a little concern - with all the other Orlando timeshare that use to be 11:00am now making it be 10:00am - believe me I don't want to change either.

most of the time we are leaving early - but sometimes we are changing to either another DVC resort or a WDW hotel - then we stay until 11:00am.

Seems the position set forth by Pa@okw95 could easily be made the other way. Let's face it we all would like to stretch our time at Disney at both ends, but 11:00 and 4:00 is fine with me. If they can't get the rooms ready then they are short staffed.

We like the 11:00 am check out. We don't spend our last nite of vacation packing up so we can check out early. The 11:00 am check out time allows us the sleep in a little,shower,enjoy a cup of coffee and pack up in a liesurely fashion.

I, too, like the 11:00 am checkout as we always try to book a late afternoon flight home so we can wake up a little later and take our time getting out (don't worry we are always check out before 11:00), then head to a park or last minute shopping etc.

Yes, we're the stragglers you see dragging out their last bags at 11:01. Earlier would not be a happier scenario for us...

On one of our first DVC trips, in Dec 1992, DW was sick with a stomach bug on check-out day. Even though a convenient bathroom was an absolute necessity, we were unable to convince the front desk to allow us to check out late.

I definitely would not want the 11am checkout time changed. We went for our first trip home a few weeks ago and this timeframe was almost perfect. Even though we woke up at 7am (pretty early), we had to get the baby up....feed her....get her ready... then, take turns getting ready...then feed ourselves...etc. By the time we were done with all that, we took a couple of pictures of the room and stood out on the OKW balcony for some fresh morning air and it was already a little past 10am. And, we had already most of our stuff packed and ready to go the previous evening.

So, it would make it that much tougher to get up and out by 10am when you're doing so much to get back out on the road like that.

I don't see any problems with the current policy, but if it was to change, I would rather see an earlier check out time than a later check in time. We used to always schedule a late flight out of Orlando, so would get all packed and put our stuff in the trunk of the rental car before heading out for a last early day at the parks. We are usually out of the room by 8:00 am and all checked out. Then we would have everyone meet back at the car at a specific time in the afternoon. Most of us spent the day park hopping to our favorite places and usually had a big meal at our favorite restaurant. It was our "tradition". Now NWAirlines has changed their schedules during our travel times, and we can only get morning flights out, so we have had to change our plans. In August we had to be at the airport by 9:00, so we had no park time the last day. We will be doing that again in January, so I can see us having to do that until NWA changes their schedules again.

I do know that a lot of timeshares have a 10 AM check out and most also have a 4:00 pm check in. I think DVC will do what the majority do.

I wonder how many people ignore the checkout time of 11 am and just leave when they want, be it 11:30, 12 or even 1:00 pm? I am sure some of this contributes to the backlog of rooms that need cleaning by 4 pm.

Does DVC charge a member $$$$ for staying past 11:00am? I would wager they don't.

Not sure if they charge for late check out or not, but our first trip as members (OKW), we had something unusual happen. We were assigned a 2 bedroom and when we got to the room, there was an open suitcase on the made up bed and used hand towels on the little shelf near the front door. We went back to the front desk, and they said, "Oh, he said he would be out in time"! They gave us a different room, and I heard them talking about what they would do. Sounded like they were going to charge him for an extra day or a recleaning fee. That was what their discussion was about. He had already "checked out" at the desk that morning. It did not sound like he was staying on points though.

LOL! I am not sure they would have to spin it other than to speak the truth....They need turn around time to get the rooms ready for those who clammer to get in early!

On our last trip for the Food & Wine, and MHSSHP we had a great time. Our only fault with the trip was we needed to move from a 2 bd to a 1bd for 1 night and back to a 2bd. The wait list did not come through for us on this trip. It was very difficult with a 4 year old and a daughter 7 months pregnant changing rooms. It seems the new policy of getting what available at checkin was not working to our advantage. Both day we were able to get to a room between 3:00 - 4:00 PM both days and this is after checking in at the dest between 7:30 and 8:30 both days.

It seems they do not know who has actually checked out and that may be why the mousekeepers knock on the door to see if anyone is there or the room is vacated. It may be a help and speed the checkin if people leaving would let the desk know the room is empty and they can begin cleaning.

Just a thought !!!

Actually, there used to be instructions in all the rooms to do exactly as you described... we were asked to dial a certain number prior to leaving the room to (supposedly) let housekeeping know the room was vacant.

I have no idea why they stopped this practice... maybe too few people were actually doing it?!?
