1 Year to SAVE!!!

Well, it happened.... my poor little ticker has got to be changed :( Went from 118 days left to go to 483! LOL Had to reschedule my trip for Oct 2013 now. Not 100% sure. So, now I'm back to having an extra year to pay of my trip. Sad I'm not going this year, but happy that I will be able to save more and be able to book our YES tickets before they close next year. Praying they have them the week we are there. Ok... its late. Good night :)
Sorry that you had to reschedule. The silver lining might be that the Fantasyland Expansion will be complete by then and you'll get to see the whole thing in all of its glory! I hope that having an extra year to save means that you can make this trip more special. Good luck and keep up the saving!

I know I am a little late to the party but I would like to join. I am going on a girls trip with my DD at the end of May in 2013. I am looking to save about $3000 just to be on the safe side. Some of this will come out of taxes next year, but since I don't have an exact amount on this right now I am not going to add that to the money I have yet. There is also a possibility that a friend of mine might be coming with her DD and sharing in a room, but I am not going to count on that until I know for sure.

So far the money I have earned has been thusly. Since the beginning of the year I have been putting aside $20 a week to put toward my Disney Fund. I have since opened up a savings acount so I don't get the urge to spend it. Since my bank only allows me to do $25 minimum at a time, I have it changed to transfer $40 every two weeks into my savings. I also took some money my DD had saved (she wanted to use to buy something at the Disney Outlet so I just used my money and put her money into a change jar for Disney). She also added a $1 that she got from the tooth fairy. I have also been adding money when I have change in my wallet or a dollar or two left over from shopping.

Since opening the account I have continued to add change to the jar (well actually it's a tin :goodvibes) and I also put in $20 from a girl friend who wanted me to make a couple of simple dresses for her DD's for a Disney Cruise that I am now. Some of the change has been found walking around Six Flags Great America. Every penny counts right.

So as of right now:

Savings Account: $523.58
DGC (left over from last March): $55.26
What's in the tin ready to be deposited: $40.48

How much I hope to save: $3000
How much I have saved: $619.32

Amount Left to save: $2380.68

That's exactly what my plan is! I've been kind of bummed at how much is going to be closed this Fall that I've been secretly thinking of switching dates for a while now. I think this extra year will make the finances that much better and we will get to do more of the stuff that costs a bit more now!

I'd love to jump in too. I'm going for a short trip in October for Food and Wine with my friends. Right now I'm budgeting for $1,000.00, but I'm erring on the side of overestimating everything.

Flight - $350
Hotel - $200 (2 nights Swan/Dolphin - splitting with friends)
Ticket - $150 (hopefully 4 day military salute pass if the program is extended...otherwise I'll probably end up with just a one day)
Food - $175 (food and drink money for EPCOT food and wine fest)
Misc - $125 (other food and drink, souvenirs, cabs, etc)

I normally put $500/month into my travel/fun fund, but I just wiped out the fund in China (including Hong Kong Disney) and I have several other upcoming trips. I'm hoping to fund as much of the Food and Wine trip with other sources, including saved per diem money from work travel, coupon savings, online earnings, and more -- I'm open to ideas).

Saved so far:
$50.06 (Extra money in previously unearmarked savings)
$21.37 (Mturk)
Total - $71.43

I also know that I have a partially used Disney giftcard from last year's F&W Fest...I need to find out how much is left on that.

Almost have all the funds for our October girl's trip! Looking like I might need to add a bit to the goal as airfare is still more than expected. Hoping for a Southwest birthday sale in the next couple of weeks though. Here's my current standings:

$2000 Goal
$1853 Saved
-------
$ 147 Left to save

So the last couple of days have been a little crazy in the money saving department for Disney. The other day I as making my bed and found a dollar between the headboard and the mattress. Than I was giving $10 to get something for lunch and spent less than half of it (barely) and I also found some small change to add that up to $5.40. Than today I meet a girlfriend of mine over at Mickey D's for lunch and looked over at the table next to us and found a $20 bill under the table. Of course I looked around to see if the people had left but they were no where to be seen. I even stayed a little longer in case they came back. (it always feels just a bit wrong when I found bigger bills this way.)

So lets see. . . THat's $1 + $5.40 + $20 = $26.40.

Old total: $619.32
Money to add: $26.40

New Total: $652.72

Left to save $2347.48

Lucky week. You should have played the lottery this week!

Had a decent week:

$71.43 -- Starting
$2.84 -- Mturk
$18.00 -- State Tax Refund
$5 -- Starbucks GC from Viggle/moved cash from coffee fund over
$25 -- Automatic transfer from checking. (Don't remember setting this up, but at least it explains where the $50 starting money came from. I'm going to keep this going for the time being)

Total:$122.27

I also have "made" $216 dollars by not spending all of my per diem this week. I'll be adding that to my total as soon as I get the reimbursement check!

I would like to join the savings party!

I'm leaving for a west coast trip in 4 weeks and Disneyland is going to be one of many stops on our three week driving trip. So we're saving up over the next month for that trip. Totally excited we get to check out CARS LAND!!! :woohoo:

When we get back in August, I'll be saving for a Mediterranean cruise for the summer of 2013 but I'd also like to start stashing money for our 4th family trip to Orlando. Thank goodness for this summer's bit of Disney, cause we haven't been to WDW since Jan 2011. :faint: I'm used to annual trips, people! But we moved last year from Ontario (right across the river from Detroit, MI) to British Columbia (a couple of hours northeast of Seattle, WA) AND DH is not the Disneyphile I am so WDW is not a priority to him.

However, the kids are dying to check out WWoHP at IoA as well as the new Fantasyland expansion and though DH doesn't really care about the latter, he's waaaay in to the former.

I'd like to look into getting non expiring tickets with the water park options added on to them so we can go back for several visits over the course of the next few years. It's a lot to lay out in the beginning, but lowers the costs in the long run.

Unfortunately, this will take a fair amount of saving...especially since the cruise is a huge priority AND a huge expense. I'll be able to dump all change, bonus monies and excess food and gas budget cash into the Disney account but not really anything else...at least until after the cruise next summer.

So, I'll have an open ended timeline...and a big ol' whack o' cash to scrape together, but I need the thread to keep me focused and saving.

I'm Canadian, so I don't have many of the outlets the rest of you have for saving (I WISH we could get Disney rewards cards in Canada) but then...those loonies and twoonies add up fast in the change jar!

I'll come back in a minute with an estimated budget.

Dang! That's a HUGE budget!! :sad1:

Here's what I've estimated. I think I've grossly exaggerated each area (in part for inflation) so it's possible to get by on less but for now, here's the totals for 2A, 1 Disney adult and 1 child:

Tickets 3000 (with water park option and non expiration option)
Plane 1500
Hotel 1000
Universal 600 (2 day park tickets)
Food 1200
Misc 500
7800

This would be for staying 6 nights onsite and eating 1 TS and 1 QS per day. If we rent DVC points, the hotel could be less. The flights would be less if we were to get a good deal and we could save a bundle on food quite easily. Of course, if we were to get a good package deal when the time comes we could always go with that and then upgrade our tickets, which bears thinking of. In the meantime, it's a figure to aim for. A BIG one.

Total Needed: $7800
Total Saved: $0
Still to go: $7800

Right around 5 months to go and -

We Need - 6000 (hoping for free dining to lower this number)
Deposit paid - (400)
Amount left - 5600
We Have - 1620.42
Left to Save - 3979.58

Oh I want in on this!! Ive been trying so hard to save. Ive been sucessful so far putting away 400 a month in our joint acct. I asked all my family to give cash or GC's for holidays for me and DH. Im planning on a yard sale/ disney themed bake sale for our neighborhood soon. Its hard though. Im a shopper. I will admit it. And...... I MISS IT!! Lol

So our break down is this;
AoA: 1400
Dining Plan 1150
Tickets: 1250
Spending money 1500
Misc 300
Gas 500

Need Roughly 6500
Saved so far 1050
(Deposit for Resort paid 350)

Left to save: 5100

Must. Keep. Going ;)

We just got back from our "bonus" trip a couple weeks ago, but I'm right back in on saving for the next trip! WDW isn't in the family plans until 2014 but there is always room for a bonus trip or two... I have two ideas in mind, one more likely than the other to happen in 2013: as much as I like the idea of a solo trip, I think that will work better in 2014 when all 3 kids are in school full time, so my goal right now is Star Wars Weekend with my son. I've taken two girls' trips with my daughters in the last year and a half so I'd like to do something special for him.

$500 room (rack rate but hoping for a discount)
$500 air
$169 tix (upgrading the 2 day base I already have to premium)
$300 food
$200 misc
$1669 total, with 51 weeks to save

My total so far? A pathetic $5.89 in my Sunshine Rewards account since I just cashed everything out for our Memorial Day trip, but I know from experience that it adds up quickly! And we have tickets left over from our January trip so that's a big expense I don't have to think about this time.

Oooh, oooh, I want to join :wave2:

I'm planning on June 22-29, 2013 for 2 adult and 2 teens at POR. I am trying to pay for the whole thing out of 'found' money, coupons and box lots. So far I have $250 saved, I need $6,500 (based on rack rate, but I want a high number in my mind).

Airfare--$1,500
6n/7d MYW--$3,000
Food--$1,500
Misc.--$500
Total--$6500
-250 saved so far
6250

It's an extremely lofty goal, but I'm sure with some pixie dust and support I can do it.

Glad to have company along the way. :drive:

Bought a trunk at auction a couple weeks ago for $15, sold it off of Craigslist today for $55. After reimbursing myself the $15, that's $40 for the Disney fund.

New Total Saved: $290

Only $6,210 more to go...:rolleyes1

New update:

I checked the missingmoney.com site when it was posted a while back & DH had some money in his name. Got the check this week - it was $127 from an apartment complex he lived in over 15 years ago. No clue why he got it, but it's going in the Disney fund!

Trip #1 - December 2013 - $3400 (plus free plane tickets w/ SW points) - SAVED!!!
Trip #2 - May 2015?

$1747.05
$ 127.00 - missing money from state
=========
$1874.05 :cool2:
