Hey everyone, I have 1 question about the Fort and a picture request. First question is we will be going on our first trip arriving November 6th-11th and wanted to know what the decorations were like at the campground. Are people decorating their sites for Christmas, Thanksgiving, or both?

Second request is, since we are tenters, we have a lot of stuff and usually I have a hitch basket to carry our stuff, but we will have a little more and going a longer distance, and I was planning of getting a smaller trailer e.g. 4x6and making a luggage trailer, and modifying it to suit our needs. I was wondering if others have a similiar trailer and wanted to see your trailers.

Thanks,
Norm

i don't have one but, i know a lot folks do this. i am sure someone will have a photo for you.

i am not sure if halloween decorations will still be up-maybe. definitely don't know when the xmas ones go up. sorry, i can't help you.

You've chosen an "in between" week. You will probably see a bit of Halloween leftover, some Thanksgiving decorations, and just the very beginning of Christmas. (Also- I didn't check my calendar, but it sounds as though you may have selected "Jersey week" which is very crowded.
We tent camp too so I can probably answer some questions about that; but we fly down because we're in NJ too and the drive is too long for us.

We camped that week this past year and saw lots of Christmas decorations. The weather was perfect and the one park we went to was low crowds and lots of fun. That is after Jersey week, so that shouldn't be a factor for you.

You can read my trip report by clicking the link in my signature. The first few pictures show our trailer. It is my husband's lawn care trailer, so it is big.

Have a great trip!

Christmas decorations go up pretty quickly! For the last few years, we have camped at The Fort over Halloween weekend. I don't recall seeing Thanksgiving decorations - just Halloween then Christmas.

One year my parents stayed at the Carribean Beach Resort. On the Oct 31st we went to MNSSHP. They got back to the resort late, and there were still Halloween decorations. On the morning of Nov 1st, when they went to the food court to get breakfast, and the Christmas decorations were up! They were very confused! :lmao:

We tent camp, but don't use a trailer. I squish everything into my mini van. Then when I get to the site - it's kinda embarrassing - it just looks like my van threw up.

Thanks for the replys so far. Actually, it is Jersey Week, my wife's a teacher and I have Election Day and Veteran's Day off, so we won't be using too many vaca/sick days, so we decided that would be best. The good thing about us driving is that we have a condo in Myrtle Beach so we have a half way point to stop off at that won't cost us anything, and I like to drive.
Pinkee, we have a conversion van and we usually get everything in there, but that is usually for a 4-5 hour ride, and I wanted everyone to be comfortable, 5 of us total, and it would just make future trips easier. Thanks again for the help.

Best Regards,
Norm

As soon as Halloween is over, the Christmas decorations go up with a few scattered Thanksgiving decorations in amongst them.

We were there Thanksgiving week in 2010.
I decorated for Thanksgiving on arrival. Then, on Thanksgiving night when we returned from dinner and fireworks, I took down the Pilgrim things and decorated for Christmas for the remainder of our stay.
It was alot of work, but it made me happy.

I've looked at those trailers and the issue I have is some of them have a 45 mph speed limit on them.

I don't know maybe I'm just looking at too many cheap trailers from Harbor Freight. :confused3

I'm a big fan of decorations at the Fort. I say it doesn't matter when you go, purty up your site with what makes you happy, (I do) :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

That's a possibilty, I've had a 5x8 for years that I've towed to at 70MPH no problems. A lot of the Harbor Freight ones that are limited are the 8" tires. I'm looking at at least 12" which is the same as my 5x8.

Actually even the 12 in tire ones have the same 45 mph limit. Their one heavy duty trailer has a 55 mph limit.

Ours is a 6x12. I had to replace the tires after a couple of years, but the ones I now have seem to be wearing well. Both this one and our older 5x10 have larger tires and both have been towed many miles at highway speeds. I want to guess the tires on both are 15".
