Okay, I just booked a MIRACLE UPGRADE from a Studio at Old Key West to a DVC Studio (both with Roll-In Showers) at the Grand Floridian 27 days left before our vacation (we belong to DVC). I know that the studios were recently refurbished. Thing is, will there be enough room for my mom’s rental scooter and my own personal powerchair (Pic of both below) to reasonably fit in the room or are we gonna be moving around furniture, essentially playing Disney Tetris?7FBC8C73-E12D-48DE-83DD-1E191E711EB3.jpeg

You will probably have to park on of them in the hallway. There is some space right by the door, but I don't think two will fit there.

Are you even supposed to leave anything (scooter, stroller, etc.) in the hallways? We were recently at the Swan and someone parked their ECV in the hallway. It was close to obstructing housekeeping and the first day we saw it, it was even blocking a fire door. I don't think any guest property should be left in public areas.

No. For Fire Code and evacuation reasons, guests are not supposed to leave things in the hall.
I don’t remember what resort this was at, but someone posted recently that they left their ECV in hall outside their room, plugged in to charge. They found it was not charging and when they asked, they were told the hall outlets are disabled at night so they would need to keep it in their room to charge (? to prevent people from charging in the halls).

For the OP, if you need extra floor space, you can ask Housekeeping to remove some furniture - like maybe a chair

My last stay at the Swan I was told by them to leave my ECV in the hallway to charge. The hallways there are large enough that if you park it next to the wall (and not blocking a door) housekeeping has no trouble getting around it.

I would ask at check in, and see what they tell you and what they can do to help you.

Btw, just did a chat on the Disney site and was told ECVs can be left in the hallway to charge as long as you are not blocking anything. For what that is worth.

Remember that the chat you just did is with CMs at a central call center that is not even on WDW property.

Sadly, the employees don't get trained well enough to understand that what they think is being helpful is not - leaving anything in the hallways unattended is against fire code.

I stayed in the original VGF building for the marathon, and there were multiple ECVs in the hallways. Poly is always full of them too.

Right... but it kinda comes under the whole "just because your buddy did XYZ does not mean you should too" umbrella.

It's still against Disney's own posted rules. My personal theory is that most of the Resort CMs are tired of self-important tourists yelling at them for daring to enforce the rules, so they shrug and walk away - until it becomes an issue.

Not to mention what has been discussed in this forum before: Leave your ECV in the hallway and don't be surprised if you come out and it's been moved somewhere down the hall... or it's just completely gone. You can go online and easily find YouTube videos showing how to release the brake so it can be pushed away, and replacement keys are sold for all the major manufacturers. Or... probably the most likely will be that someone has unplugged it while it was supposed to be charging and now you do not have enough power to make it through your day in the Parks. You will spend a miserable day, searching all day for outlets to plug into, instead of enjoying yourself. If you had charged the ECV in your room, it wouldn't be an issue. And we already know from other folks who have posted here, in this forum, that every single room type - even a Value room - can hold 2 standard rental ECVs for charging.

People sometimes feel a little *too* safe at the Resort hotels, and it shows in behavior like this. You have to remember that getting into a Resort hotel with the appearance of legitimacy is ridiculously easy, and someone who is looking to cause trouble could easily do so. No one questions who is roaming the halls and corridors of the Disney World Resort hotels; we all take it for granted that anyone we see is also a Guest, or a Cast Member. Place a large item (with wheels already under it for easy access to mischief) out for anyone to play with in the hall, and it's practically begging for trouble.

If someone else chooses to break the rules, (and it doesn't matter how wide the hallways are, it's still against Disney's rules) that's on them. I'm not going to encourage anyone to go against Disney's own posted rules.

I'd never leave my very expensive, personal powerchair in the hallway, and it meaningfully locks. Reality is the Disney hotel hallways are full of rental scooters. I've even seen a few personal chairs. That's true at Grand Floridian and at Pop. This is a rule that I have never actually seen enforced.

The exception would be Riviera. WOW those hallways were narrow. They didn't even fit our powerchair and double stroller. I would imagine they have no choice but to enforce the rules there. And that hotel was opened in 2019!

I wonder what the desk would do if they asked you to charge a rental? I doubt they have room to charge it down there. I wouldn't be surprised if they told you to put it in the hallway.

Why would the desk be asking you to charge a rental? I don't understand - or is it a typo and it was supposed to say "you asked the desk"? If you ask the desk to charge a rental, and they don't have the space (or the policy is just no) then I think you are just out of luck? I think Disney policy right now is to get out of the rental cluster as much as possible.

For what it's worth, in Feb, I had 2 scooters (almost exactly like the one on the right) in my studio in AKV for the first night. It was a very tight squeeze, but we got them both in there. Housekeeping suggested we move it into the hallway and even helped us do it and showed us where to plug it in. I know a few on here have pointed to rules that say not to - my guess is they say that for liability reasons. But we were encouraged by multiple CM's to leave ours in the hallway.

To your initial question though - they should fit, but it may be a bit tight.

I was just at the grand and you should have no problem getting both in your room.

At AKL right now, and there is room for 2 ECVs if you have them take out the table. Room for one without any problem. Also pointed out to an employee that there were two ECVs out in our hallway, blocking half the hall, and that it was a fire code violation. She said they don't fit in the room? Baloney. Going to the front desk to show them the issue (can't get by with a stroller or luggage) if they are left out there another night.

This honestly sounds like you want to pick a fight. Vacation time is too precious to waste it trying to prove you are right or to try and get another guest in trouble for something they may very well have been told by the resort to do.

If you can't get by whatever is in the hallway, then yea, it's a fire hazard.

Some people with scooters think they can just park them anywhere, just because they can get up and walk around it. It's happened to us with a powerchair more than once at WDW. Once someone just parked and blocked the bathroom entrance so that no one in a chair could get in. I haven't personally seen one parked in a hotel hallway we couldn't get around, but if I did you bet I'd call it in. For some of us, walking around it isn't an option.

Not a fight - but I want to be safe in the hotel. Have you ever had to evacuate with a crowd? Have you had to evacuate from a hotel? I have, and clear hallways are essential. The ECVs take up half the width of the hallway.

You said in your post that the issue you were going to complain about was not being able to get by the scooter with luggage or a stroller. By your own pics you can easily get by with either. That is what my comment was on.
