We will check in at Coronado on Sunday June 25 and are thinking about driving down a day early and finding a place off-site for the night before. We'll get up the next morning early and go check-in and go to the parks until our room is ready. Any suggestions on where to stay that first night? Is it imperative to get reservations for that night or can I find something when I get down there?

If you aren't very committed to any one place perhaps try Priceline or Hotwire? You could pick a 3 or 4 star hotel get a bargain for a really nice place. Or at least it would be an adventure ;) I've always done well with Priceline and Hotwire when picking higher starred properties.

We had booked an entertainment rate @ Best West (used to be LaQuinta) outside the main gate for less than $50 late June. Trip Advisor gave it good reviews, as well as AAA.

We cancelled to take advantage of $49 offer (w/no TS presentation) @ Sheraton Vistana for 4 nights :woohoo:

Travelzoo has had some great deals listed lately...good luck.

We are doing this also ... booking a week at AKL but driving down a day early. I was going to book a cheap place offsite for that one night, but then decided to book a cheap place onsite (Pop Century) instead.

chech priceline.com. actually if you check to see if any of the all stars aren't booked up for the night, you could do what others are doing and try to get an all star for $36 a night plus tax. just put in a 2.5 star hotel in disney area for $36.00. but make sure that they are not booked up for that night before you do the ressie.
my other sugestion would the the grovnesor hotel- it's one of the downtown disney hotel, nice and close
hope that helped,

Do you want to stay offsite for a change in location that one night, or is the Coronado booked up for your first night? I ask because I've been in that situation quite a few times, and I'm one who HATES to have to unpack even a little in one place, and then move to another. So, I'll wait and call Disney starting a week prior to arrival, and I've always been able to get the room for the extra night. People are always cancelling. I make sure I call at 7:30-8:00 am each day to catch the rooms that have opened up the night before, or first thing in the morning.

You may want to stay somewhere else for the experience of it, but I thought I'd add that in. Good luck!
