1 night at akv+ 3 nights at bwv= 1 or 2 magic bands

Had 3 nights booked at BWV. Wanted to head down a day early and was able to get akv(BWV not available). Got Deluxe DP for the first night and regular DP for the next three nights. I know the deluxe one expires 12 midnight the next day but what about the regular dining plan? Do I have to check into BWV to activate? If so does online check in count?- Becausewe planned on spending the day at a park and then heading over to BWV later in the day hoping the room would be ready. Oh and what about the magic bands? If I have a 5 day park hopper how will that play out? Disney is mentally exhausting these days! :)
 
You'll get two bands, but you will find that the first one will work for your entire reservation (actually they both will); You must open your door with them to "activate" them. Also, you won't know your room number at Boardwalk until the room is ready (and they won't let you check in until after you check out of the first resort.)

We have done "split stays" several times since they introduced the magic bands and they have always given us 2 sets.

One time, last October we were checking in BLT, which was on the test. However, we did a night at OKW, which was not on the test. Interestingly, we discovered the magic bands worked at OKW even though the resort was specifically not on the test.

I called and was told if you have two seperate dining plans each would be on separate magic bands and the first dining plan would not transfer to the second magic band so we would need to use a seperate magic band for each dining plan

Regular dining plan expires at midnight the day you check out as well. You will need to physically check in at BWV to activate the DDP. You will get a magic band for each resort. Once the tickets are linked to your MDE you can use either band. We just did this exact split in December and we found that both bands worked at each resort. So technically you can use either one. Just make sure you have both with you to be safe.

This is incorrect. But I don't doubt that's what the poster was told. A lot of the folks answering the phones at Disney just don't understand the bands at all.

NOTHING is on a magic band. All it does is emit a fixed numerical code, that identifies your MDE account to the location you are scanning the band.

You can use bands from prior trips on your next trip as long as you don't manually deactivate them in your MDE account. You can use them everywhere, every trip. Now this isn't saying the system works perfectly- it doesn't. Sometimes spectacularly failing.

But there is no such thing as a meal plan being "on" a set of bands. The bands don't have any kind of memory card whatsoever. And in fact, they are interchangeable with your annual pass or current RFID ticket media (if it is linked to your MDE) as well. You don't have to use the band at all if you prefer your card. But personally I do find them pretty convenient, especially on trips to swim.

I was indeed told this twice… My question to you as you seem knowledgeable is what is to stop the first dining credits from canceling out before their midnight when the other dining plan starts at checkin on the same day. This would be confusing to any computer system

If the software works correctly your entitlement for your 1st DDP times out at midnight of your check out. Your entitlement for the 2nd DDP is activated when you physically check in to your second resort.

The only issue that we have had is we checked out of the first resort but the system didn't get the update so we couldn't check in to our 2nd resort. It took 40 minutes of front desk phone calls, back room help, going to our room to see if the door would open and finally a call to tech support to force the check out from the 1st resort.

We used the same bands for both resorts and our entire stay.

The system is "supposed" to integrate both plans together in such a circumstance, and deplete the first plan before it uses the credits for the second.

I'd keep a record of what I used, and closely watch the number of entitlements remaining. If it works correctly there should be no problem. But that's a definite "if" that I would monitor.

Concierge at your resort can print out your DDP account summary. We check it at the beginning, middle, and at the end of our vacation.

We have 2 reservations. Once at CBT and one at AKL, we recieved one set of bands. I had to go the system and link all of the dvc/dining/AP/FP together.

Well that's a good sign. We booked a split stay for May and it created two MB orders. We are sort of drowning in them now. We did a split stay in October and got two sets then as well.
 
I have no doubt you can link all your stuff together to include dining resort resevations fast passes and tickets but where I see problems is two different dining plans that do not end until midnight and start on checkin thus overlapping each other and a system that would not recognize there are dining credits left from the first stay and overlap or void out the first stays remaining credits before midnight after checking into the second resort in favor of the second stays dining plan. I have 5 sets of magic bands which of course is absurd but only a dining plan on two of the bands because thats all the resort stays we purchased a deluxe plan and than a regular plan on
