We were at WDW from Sept 1 and left the evening of Sept 5. The 4 of us include myself, my husband and our 2 daughters who are 15 months and almost 3 years old. We stayed at POFQ and visited, AK, DTD, Boardwalk and the Magic Kingdom. I have a few pictures. My husband hated when I would take pictures of our meal, even if it was for a good cause. I'm sorry that I don't have pictures from all our character dining meals besides O'hanas. It is actually very difficult to grab food at a buffet for the children, for myself, the hubby, grab autograph books, cameras, video cameras, feed children, feed ourselves, interact with characters, calm children down, calm husband down, calm myself down, without the help of a small army :)
My husband and I were on the Deluxe Dining Plan. Now that all is said and done, we look back and if we had to do it again, we would have done the basic dining plan. We didn't eat in restaurants 3x a day, and it killed my husband to use the credits at counter service. It just became hard with 2 young children to try and accomodate 3 sit down meals a day. They didn't have the patience for it or the stomachs either. One or the other would also be napping at around our lunch ADR and we couldn't bring a stroller into the restaurant for them to continue napping. For my husband and myself, it was just to much food and it was just becoming unhealthy. We did use up all the snack credits though at DTD at Goofy's candy store and Earl of Sandwich.

So here we go. I thought I would break it down into character meals, lunch, dinner and anything else.

We ate breakfast here on our last day and out of all the character dining experiences we had, this was the best and for a few reasons. The food was great. My husband and I enjoyed it, the kids enjoyed it. The juice they served, the fabulous cinnamon bread and pineapple bread the hostess brings to the table was very yummy. The food was all brought to US. This was a big plus. We actually got to relax and enjoy our family breakfast without one of us having to run around and get food and bring it back. My husband and I were just ahhhhh, and just sat and enjoyed our tea and coffee. The breakfast was served family style and had fresh fruit, waffles, scrambled eggs, homefries, bacon, sausage, warm syrup and biscuits. It was all great.
Our server Melinda was fantastic. She was always making sure that we had lots of everything and that our girls were happy and were eating the food and brought out extra of whatever they were enjoying. Again, that was just pure ahhhhhhhh. The restaurant wasn't loud and the view of the castle and the Grand Floridan was just amazing.
The character interaction was great. Pluto, Stich, Lilo and Mickey were there and were fantastic with the girls and spent a lot of time with them and weren't rushed. It is a large restaurant and even though it wasn't packed, the characters only did 1 rotation while we were there. The parade that the children got to participate in was also great and the main aisle had lots of room for the children to go around. Mickey was swarmed with children and was just hugging them all.
Only con was that we had to wait 15 minutes past our ADR but it was not a big deal. We also declined to take the photo and they didn't have a problem with that. We also all got leis which our oldest loved.
Great experience and we will definitely do it again.

DONALD'S SAFARI BREAKFAST @ TUSKER HOUSE

This was our first breakfast during our stay and we had a 9:00 ADR. We got to the park at 8:30 but it still wasn't early enough to make our ADR because the rest of the guests were entering the park and we got stuck in the crowd waiting for the rope drop. I did ask a cast member who was holding back the crowd if we could just go ahead to make our reservation but was told no, we would have to wait until after the rope drop. We were 10 minutes late for our reservation and had to wait an additional 15 minutes once we checked in.
The restaurant wasn't packed and they were taking walk-ups. It is a very loud restaurant and this in combonation with it being the first time our 15 month old was coming up close and personal with characters made for a very stressful breakfast. The characters that were there included Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Mickey. Minnie wasn't present. The characters did make it around more than once. The food was good and the juice served when we arrived at the table was also good. The service was fine but our server was extremely busy and we didn't see him often. They had a good selection of breakfast items except maybe the fruit. The girls were ok with the food. I think it was part to excited too eat/too hot to eat that they just picked at their breakfast.
They do a fun parade with instruments for the kids. It was hectic for us being our first time at a character dining. We didn't want to miss any opprotunity to take pictures and video of the kids meeting the characters or for our oldest to be in the parade so my husband and I were always rushing up and back to the buffet because it was hard for just one of us to do everything on our own when a character came by. My husband and I actually didn't eat a lot because it just felt so crazy for us. For those wondering, it took about an hour from the time our pager went off to paying the bill. I did go and grab fast passes for the safari at the start of breakfast so at least we could walk onto a ride and get our day going.
It was a good experience and we would recommend this restaurant.

CHEF MICKEY'S

This was our second breakfast and we arrived at our ADR about an hour ahead of time. We decided to take the bus and monorail and thought we would have long waits but got there in no time. They had no problem accomodating us showing up early since it wasn't busy and they were also taking walkups. We arrived at 8:30
We lucked out that the room we were seated in, the characters were just starting at the other end of the room so this gave us lots of time to get food and actually eat. The food was good and always fresh. The characters were Goofy, Pluto, Donald, Mickey and Minnie in chef outfits (exept Minnie). The character interaction was great and our youngest was much more relaxed and had lots of exposure at the Animal Kingdom to characters and she was very happy to see them all at breakfast and they spent a good amount of time with the girls and signing autographs and pictures. Donald was really great with the baby. The service was ok and they did a napkin toss to a song instead of the parade which was also ok.
It was a nice experience and would suggest that those who haven't tried it give it a try.

CRYSTAL PALACE

If I were to let my husband review this dining experience, he would be giving it a -5. I was fuming also after this lunch but now that a few days have gone by I won't be as harsh as he would be.
Our lunch reservation was for 11:45 and I checked in at 11:30. We weren't seated until 12:30. The check-in process and the people waiting to get in to start lunch was just total chaos. I would recommend getting to a lunch reservation near the start of lunch service early to check-in because the waiting area is packed from wall to wall and it will take a while to make it to the hostess. It took an hour for them to seat us because they forgot about us. Groups with reservations after ours were being seated and we continued to wait. Whenever I went up to ask about the status I could tell from the look on there faces that they overlooked us. After my 3x inquiring into our table they finally let us in. The restaurant was fully booked and not taking walk-ins unless you were willing to keep on going back to check for any cancellations.
The food was ok, and the character interaction was fine. We didn't get to meet all the characters. Winnie, Piglet, Tigger and Eyeore were there. The characters did a parade around the restaurant with the kids. The lineup for the buffet was huge and slow moving. Our server was good and was quick to clear the table and bring drinks. Our kids hardly ate the food except for a bun and some cheese. It is a packed restaurant but it is very nice inside.
When I made the reservation and again at check-in I mentioned that I needed a high chair. They didn't have any hair chairs left and wanted to use a booster seat that wasn't secured to the chair for the baby. This was completely unsafe and we ended up having to hold her and while we tried to eat. This was difficult because there wasn't much room between tables and to sit with a baby in your lap wasn't comfortable. I did ask during our lunch if any highchairs had become available yet but no one got back to us.
Our baby did end up having an accident during our lunch when my husband was passing her to me so that he could go to the buffet and she smashed her head into the corner of the table and ended up cutting her lip. If only we could have had a high chair. Good thing First Aid was right next door and they were really helpful. It looked like the baby bit her lip when she smashed into the table so it required some ice on a bump on her head and also on her lip. I did pass some lovely high chairs though when exiting the restaurant. Go figure.
At least we can say we have tried the Palace. It's just too packed with people both inside and out and the wait wasn't worth it for the food. The same characters our daughters met at the Animal Kingdom and got to spend more time with them.

Best dinner: SPOODLES

SPOODLES

We had a 6:00 ADR and were on time for it. Just had to wait a few minutes. Restaurant was taking walk-ups and was not busy. All the staff was great from beginning to end and our kids really enjoyed eating here. Our server Wayne was fantastic and the girls just loved him. He even helped to feed the kids and give them their juices. Definitely the extra pair of hands we needed during a lot of the trip :)
The food was fantastic. We started with the Calamari and Mediterranean dips and both were very good. I had Sangria which was also delicious and hubby had wine. Pictured above is my lobster ravioli and it was very good and the serving was huge so it was just right and left room for dessert. The girls shared the grilled chicken with pasta and fruit cup and enjoyed it. Hubby had the wood grilled pork tenderloin and he said it was cooked perfectly. It came with gnocchi which was great and veggies. It was a great meal.
Dessert was the lemon poundcake and cheesecake. They were fantastic and the espresso was also good. It was a great meal from beginning to end and would definitely go back.

Sorry the above pictures are so orange. Have no idea how that happened.
We went to Boatwrights after spending a day at AK. Because it was so close to POFQ I thought it would be the best bet after a day at a park with 2 young kids and finding something sit down to eat. We decided to take the boat over from POFQ and it was a great ride. The boat docks right next to the restaurant and the resort is very lovely.
Our reservation was for 6:30 and the restaurant was not busy and accepting walkups. I wasn't sure what to expect because I have read spotty reviews of this restaurant. We were seated right away, and the service overall was quick and we were often checked up on. The food overall was good. I started with the crawfish Bites and it was pretty good. I never had them before and they were really yummy. Even my husband was enjoying them and he doesn't eat seafood. Our 15 month old was loving my appitizer as well. My husband decided to go out on a limb and try the bbq shrimp. It was ok. The first few bites, the dish was pretty bland. I don't know if it was way the seasoning was distrubited through the dish but he said it got better. The cornbread that came with the meals was also good.
My main dish was Ravioli with shrimp and it was good. Husband had prime rib and he said it was fine but he did not like the 3 cheese hash browns that came with it. I drank a Southern Belle which was great and husband stuck with beer. Our girls shared a beef and macaroni which they just picked at. They prefered the fruit cup that came with it.
The chocolate cake I had for dessert was great and of course our girls loved that as well as my husband's apple pie. Overall it was a good experience and exceeded my expectations. It was also a very lovely walk back to POFQ which took about 10 minutes along the river.
We would go again if we were staying close by or at the resort.

WOLFGANG PUCK CAFE

We went to Wolfgang on our first night and had an ADR for 6:30. We took the boat from POFQ and got to DTD in about 20 minutes. It was a great way for the 4 of us to start our Disney experience. The boat launch was in Marketplace and we had to walk over to the West side. It did not take long to walk through, DTD was not busy at all. Our oldest was going crazy over every single thing along the way. The toy stores, the lifesize princesses outside the store and the huge Stich on top of the sign. I was all "ahhhhhhh, how exciting to!!!", but I was the adult and we had a ADR to keep.
We didn't have to wait at all. The restaurant was taking walkups. This restaurant has a lot of staff. Our server Derek was great. The back of the restaurant has a great view of the river and the resort across. It is a large restaurant and very colourful and also loud. It's a nice concept with an open kitchen and large bar area.
We started our meal with drinks and for our appetizers had the calamari and artichoke dip which are pictured above. They were very large portions and came out quickly. We didn't enjoy them though very much. The calamari was cold and we pictured something else when we read the description for the cheese and artichoke dip. Because it had 5 different cheeses, we pictured something warm and gooey with big chunks of artichoke. it wasn't gooey, more lumpy, you couldn't taste the artichoke and it wasn't warm. The large chips served with it also did not have much taste on there own. Not a great start but the main courses were better.
My main was the 3 cheese ravioli and it was great. The girls shared a cheese pizza and my ravioli and they loved it. My 15 month old just devoured her share. My husband had the grilled flat iron steak which he said was fine but not worth the $29.00. We didn't have much room for dessert so hubby and I shared the cheesecake which was really great and Derek put the kids sundae as one of our desserts dining plan and the girls loved it. Our oldest took charge of assembling the sundae and it looks like someday she will have a bright future in the ice cream biz .
It was a nice meal and a nice restaurant but now that we have tried it, we will try someplace else next time.

Thanks everyone. I guess I was the official Ravioli tester during this trip because I had it at 3 different restaurants and didn't realize I was always ordering the same type of pasta dish. I thought it would be the easiest thing to share with my daughters.
Actually the lobster ravioli isn't new at Spoodles. I had it 6 years ago and recognized the black stripes when he brought out the dish. I think I need to get myself a pair of ravioli Mickey ears! :)

that lobster ravioli looks so yummy! It's making me wish we'd booked a Spoodles meal for our upcoming trip.

The lobster ravioli was delicious but my only complaint about it was that there wasn't enough! I was only willing to share a very small bite with my husband who wanted to give it a try :)

Thanks for the reviews! I'm loving them.

Quick question about WPC. I've had to secure a last minute ressie here to accomodate my parents as they decided to head South earlier than expected and will be joining us one night. You mentioned it is 'loud' and I've read that elsewhere also. My Dad has a hearing aide and I haven't seen them in a while (they've been up North). Will we be able to carry on a conversation here? Or is it just too loud to have a comfortable chat? Did you happen to see the outdoor seating area? I'm wondering if that would be a little more quite although I've also read that it isn't very nice out there. Anyway, any help you can give would be appreciated.

Thanks! :goodvibes

WPC is loud but you can still carry on a conversation. The four of us were able to still talk without having to raise our voices to be heard. The noise was just from the other patrons. Their wasn't any music being played or anything. Regarding the outside seating area, it faces the outside wall across this wide walkway which I believe was Bongos. One section of the Bongos wall does have a waterfall, but it's just a small section. If you sit outside, you could also get a view of the people traffic walking along the main corridor, the lower half of the outdoor area, I think you would get a not so great view of the river. If you want a nice view, you would be better off sitting inside. The have floor to ceiling windows around a large section of the restaurant that face the river and resort across which was really nice.
I hope your family has a wonderful trip!

BEST LUNCH: THEY WERE ALL FINE. NOTHING REALLY STOOD OUT

FLAME TREE BARBECUE

Half chicken meal, Beef Sandwich meal. chocolate cake, Key lime pie
2008-09-11014.jpg

We had lunch here at around 2:30 and sat down in the very lower half of the seating area. It's right along the water and you have to keep on following the stone path down to get to it. I know this place is famous for the large number of birds aggressively waiting to be fed by guests but we didn't have this problem. We just had 2 squirrels, a bunny rabbit and a couple of small birds waiting for a nibble. We were the only people sitting in this section. We had a fantastic view and a great breeze so we weren't missing the air conditioning.. Here was our view:
093.jpg

092.jpg

Their wasn't a long line up to order. The chicken was very good and moist and the portion was large. The girls loved it. We didn't enjoy the beans that came with it but that isn't to say someone else wouldn't. We like baked beans but these were very sweet and too much liquid. Both portions went in the garbage. The beef sandwich was ok and large enough for my husband and I to share. The corn bread was great and we all enjoyed it including the squirrels and bunny. The chocolate cake was the same standard one that came at all the counter service restaurants we went to and it was good. My husband said that key lime pie was good as well.

COSMIC RAY'S STARLIGHT CAFE

Combo meals of Double bacon cheeseburger with fries and a chocolate cake, 2 orders of a cheeseburger with fries and chocolate cakes.

On the day we left we went to Magic Kingdom for a few hours and stopped by here for lunch. The service was fast and the burgers were fine and so were the fries. The place had lots of available seating. The toppings bar is great. No complaints and would eat here again.
