1 Disney Addict & 1 Disney Newbie do DxDP, incl a Proposal! Sept5-12 2012

Loving your reviews Michaela!

GF Cafe looked so amazing I've had to shuffle around my plans to accommodate it. We were thinking of breakfast there; after reading Sir's review of the burger I just have to do lunch.

I panic each time you mention how full you are.

:welcome: Thanks! Great choice on GF Cafe for lunch! We really loved it.
I was quite full at our meals, but I'm a person who can't eat a lot at one sitting, I'm more of an eat smaller portions more often. I've read reviews of people who were able to accomplish much more than I was :rotfl: I think it's an individual thing!

I am exactly the same. I eat small amounts often.

I'm worried about doing going Deluxe but realistically know that our trips will be spaced years apart and I want to squeeze as much into them as possible. I'll probably leave a lot of food to go to waste but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it!

I was worried too, but then I thought about how I'd always wanted to try it so I just went for it. And even though food did go to waste, I really enjoyed the experience. I loved the flexibility of using the credits how we wanted, I loved having more snacks to use for drinks & things if we wanted, things that I'd usually not use a snack credit on. I also loved being able to eat at more signature restaurants! I'm also a huge appetizer fan, and would pick that over dessert if I had to choose. So even though I was full and wasted some food, I would definitely do the deluxe plan again!

Wonderful review!! Can't wait to see how your trip turns out. :thumbsup2

I could read and see photos of FOOD PORN all day....Thank you so much for your great reviews and photos...makes me miss Disney...
Thanks again

We got quite a few snacks this day. As I mentioned at the start of my report I didn't think we'd be using many of the snacks, but I actually liked the flexibility of having so many!

We started out the day with a little breakfast at DHS. We stopped at Starring Rolls on our way to ToT & RnRC.
We shared the Butterfinger Cupcake $3.99 (snack credit)
uS2BS.jpg

Here's the inside:
E6vbm.jpg

I'd been wanting to try this for the last several trips, but never got around to it. I'd usually get to Starring Rolls at a busy time and didn't feel like waiting in line. This time I figured I'd go there first thing and have it for breakfast, it's vacation why not? It was delicious! The cake part was moist. The chocolate ganache filling was thick & gooey. The white frosting on top was also super thick, but not too sweet. I love Butterfingers, and the crumbs on the top part were sooooo good. Perfect breakfast!
Sir's comments: I loved this cupcacke. I'm not a huge fan of Butterfinger, but The choclate ganache inside the cupcake was very good and I wish I could have bathed in it.

That afternoon we were at Epcot, and we Started in Mexico for one very important reason - La Cava del Tequila!!! I love margaritas, and when I told Sir about this place, he was super excited.
TiYme.jpg

I ordered the Passionfruit Margarita (I don't have the receipt for these, Sir paid & I never got it. I think they were around $13 each)
0JRaE.jpg

This was delicious. I love passionfruit. There was some kind of foam on the top, but I can't remember what it was. This wasn't a frozen margarita, but it was still delicious. It was quite strong, but still delicious, so cold and yummy. When the bartender saw my birthday button, he poured some more tequila onto the top of it, which made it even stronger. Yay birthday tequila!

Sir had the Avocado Margarita
YIz4u.jpg

I had a sip of this, and I thought it was quite good, but not as good as mine. His was frozen/slushy. Avocado is one of Sir's fave foods!
Sir's comments: I found it rich, creamy, and just sweet enough. I would (and will) order it again.

By the time we made it to Norway, the sheer amount of tequila I was having was kind of catching up with me, as I was drinking my margarita kinda fast. I made an executive decision to stop at Kringla Bakeri og Cafe.
We got a Cloudberry Horn $3.09 (snack credit)
JyUUp.jpg

This was so yummy! I can't believe I've never stopped here before! The pastry was flaky and perfect. I love whipped cream, and the filling was the perfect consistency, and had a great amount of the berry mixed in. I could have done without the large granules of sugar on top - it hurts my teeth which are sensitive to super sweet things.
Sir only had a small bite of this, he wasn't hungry (shocker!)

On our way through Germany, we of course had to stop at the Werther's store. This was another place I'd told Sir about, and he was excited. We weren't able to eat these tonight, and we didn't eat them til our second last night (parts of them)
Sir ordered the Milk Chocolate caramel with Sea Salt I think around $4, snack credit
IYyDG.jpg

Sir's comments: I was extremely sweet, but in a good way. I wasn't able to finish the entire snack but it was well worth the snack credit.
I had a small bite, it was really good quality chocolate & caramel.

I had a Caramel Crunch, also around $4, also snack credit
QNWa0.jpg

This was good. The caramel was nice & chewy. The base was kind of like a shortbread cookie type crust. I'm sad that I didn't get to finish it.
We also used a snack credit here to get a bottle of water.

Lastly, that night back at our resort, I felt like something cold, fruity & refreshing. I really wanted a slush, but the food court doesn't have those. So I decided on a Fruit Cup for a snack credit. This was the typical pre-made fruit salad with melon & grapes. The melon was nice & fresh, but the grapes were mushy

Today we did something I've always wanted to do - we got to enter the park before it opened! We had a breakfast reservation for 8:20 at Crystal Palace. I was so excited to walk down an almost-empty Main St USA, and take fabulous pictures in front of the Castle. We took the early am breakfast bus to MK and lined up to the far left. We got to take some PhotoPass pictures in front of the Castle, which made me very happy.
There were lots of people waiting in line to check in, but it moved quickly. We waited probably almost 10 minutes to be called in, luckily before the downpour started. We sat to the left side of the restaurant in a half booth/half table, and I could see out the windows to the Castle. It was a great seat! Our server was Michael-Jay, and he was super friendly.
There was a streamer on our table for my birthday
K7zBf.jpg

We each had Chocolate Milk, Water & Coffee to drink
JasoR.jpg

Sir thought the coffe & milk was good. I thought the chocolate milk was kinda weird, almost like the stuff you can make at home with milk & chocolate syrup. I enjoyed the water and wished I had ordered juice instead of the milk.

Here are Sir's 2 plates:
EFjf3.jpg

Raczz.jpg

On his first plate he has lots of puffed French toast with strawberries & Whipped cream, biscuits & gravy, corned beef hash, maybe eggs? under the bacon, smoked salmon & lots of bacon (his fave food). His second plate has Mickey waffles with strawberries & whipped cream, sausage, bacon & croissant.
Sir's comments: Out of the two breakfast buffets we went to, I prefered the second one at Crystal Palace. Most of the food was essentially the same as 1900 Park Fare with a few exceptions. The two things on the menu that I really loved were the Mickey Waffles and the Puffed French Toast, both with whipped cream and strawberries. All the different breakfast meats were good.

Here are my first 2 plates(I took 2 at once because I don't like certain foods touching others):
33TEd.jpg

nHdb3.jpg

My first plate has bacon, some sort of hashbrown casserole, & biscuits with gravy. My second has Western breakfast pizza, pancake, puffed French toast & Mickey waffle with strawberries & whipped cream. I also had a 3rd plate later that just had some bacon & Pooh's breakfast lasagna, but I was too busy with characters to take a picture!
The food here was pretty good. The bacon isn't the best, but it's better than no bacon at all. The hashbrowns were really yummy. I found the biscuits & gravy to still be too rich. The pizza disappointed me. I should have known better than to try it, because I don't really like bell peppers. I was hoping there'd be some bacon on there too (there wasn't). The puffed French toast was delicious, like a cinnamon donut! Mickey waffles are always great! The breakfast lasagna was ok, too many flavours and mushy textures in one dish for me.

At the end of the meal, Michael-Jay brought me out a birthday card signed by the characters & a cupcake!

Wdj5E.jpg

I loved the card! It's so neat to have it with all the different signatures. The cupcake was actually pretty good, but we couldn't finish it. :guilty:

Bonus character pictures!

What I liked about this buffet was that, with the exception of Tigger, the character handlers were right with the characters. The handlers all offered to take our picture together, which was nice. At 1900 Park Fare there wasn't any CM's around so all of our pictures are separate.
I'd definitely go back here for breakfast. I'd been here before for dinner, but I found breakfast to be a bit better. And you can't beat being able to get in the park before it opens! $48.97 was covered by the dining plan.

Today for lunch I knew a CS place would be fine, because we had 2 other big meals. I was torn between Cosmic Ray's & Pecos Bill, but Pecos bill won out because we were in that area anyway.

We both ordered the same thing Taco Salad with Chocolate Cake, I was also given a free Carrot Cake for my birthday. Sir had a large Coke & I had a large Apple Juice (I love that juice is an option for a fountain drink here!)
6vA8q.jpg

We both filled up our salads with lots of yummy toppings & veggies from the toppings bar, especially the hot melty cheese! I put pickles on the side (I love pickles!). This salad was pretty good. I like the option of adding your own fresh veggies to your taste. I was still pretty full from breakfast though so I didn't finish my salad. I love these little CS cakes, and I ate most of the chocolate and part of the carrot!
Sir's comments: I LOVED the taco salad, I smothered it in cheese sauce, sour cream and fixins'. The cake was good but not great but I might just be saying that cause Michaela got an extra birthday cake for free.

I've eaten here before, and I'll eat here again. I like the options they have and the large toppings bar! There's also ample seating, I've never had a problem getting a seat.

We had really been looking forward to this dinner since I booked it, Sir for a different reason than me which you'll see soon. I've always wanted to eat here, it seemed perfect for a romantic dinner, with a view of the Castle, and Wishes. I booked it at 7:40 so that we'd still be there for Wishes at 9:00.
This picture is of our room that afternoon before we left, it's not of Cali Grill but it's kind of food related:
j17wx.jpg

Mousekeeping made a towel lobster, then arranged our Disney teddies around it holding plastic forks! :rotfl:

We went to MK first because I wanted to get pictures in front of the castle with our fancy clothes on. We took the monorail to the CR, and we were pretty early. We check in at around I think 7:15 and took the elevator up to the Cali Grill. We were seated almost right away at around 7:20, we didn't even have time to sit in the lounge. The manager sat us, we were originally seated in the wine room but she said because it was our first time there she'd try to get us a better table. She put us at an amazing table by the window with a great view of the Castle & MK. In my opinion, it was the best table in the whole place.
Here's us in on Main St before dinner:
0oo1a.jpg

Sir's comments about eating here: I had been waiting for our meal at California Grill for months, I had a lot riding on it but you will see that soon.

Here's a picture of our view, it's a bit blurry but it gives you an idea of our view. We could see the Castle and all of Tomorrowland:

Here's a picture of our table, with pretty Castle confetti on it

While Sir was in the washroom, I ordered a bottle of Pellegrino for us to share  Luckily he didn't mind too much. I like the small touches here, like putting the bottle on a little metal plate so it doesn't make the table wet. Our server, Steve, was amazing. The perfect balance between nice, considerate & attentive.
To drink, Sir got a Twisted Mai Tai Mt Gay rum, Creme de Noyaux, and orange and pineapple juice with a splash of lime $9
pyPYk.jpg

Sir's comments: This was fruity & good, I liked it.

I had a Pomegranate COZ Charbay pomegranate vodka, Cointreau, and cranberry juice with a splash of lime $9
iiQ0Y.jpg

This drink was really good. It was kind of strong, but I didn't mind lol It was cold & refreshing.

We were served sourdough bread & whipped butter with sea salt to start
lkays.jpg

This was yummy! The crust was super hard, basically too hard to eat (it hurt my teeth), but the inside was soft & warm.

Sir started with Tuna Three Ways...Poke, Tartare, Tataki $23
kO78D.jpg

I didn't try this, seafood again!
Sir's comments: I loved it! I'm a big fan of sushi so I was happy to see what the Disney chefs could make. The tuna was all delicious but I really liked the Tuna Tartare the most.

I had the Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli sun-dried tomatoes, pesto, shiitake mushrooms, basil $14
y4LbI.jpg

I loved this! I knew months in advance this is what I'd be ordering, and I was not disappointed. It was the perfect size for an appetizer. I looooooved goat cheese, and there was a perfect amount. When I cut open the ravioli the cheese inside melted into the hot tomato broth. It was perfect! and I don't think I even let Sir get a bite

For entree, Sir had Oak-fired filet of Beef Tillamook potatoes, blue lake beans, bacon vinaigrette, teriyaki barbecue $47
Kxx7j.jpg

I had a small bite of this and it was delicious, though I thought my main was better!
Sir's comments: I liked everything on the plate. The filet was well seasoned and perfectly cooked (mid rare). The mash was flavourful and creamy, while the beans were lighty salted and crunchy.

I had Grilled Pork Tenderloin, goat cheese polenta, roasted mushrooms, Zinfandel glaze, crispy sage $37
lzWmd.jpg

Pork again! Have I mentioned I love pork? This was amazing. The pork was a perfect medium, tender & juicy. But the real star was the goat cheese polenta. I really developed a love for polenta on this trip. I was worried that with my app & main both having goat cheese it might be too much, but it wasn't at all. The mushrooms & sage were an excellent garnish. I couldn't eat 1 of the pieces of pork, so Sir ate it. He thought it was good, but not as good as his steak.

With dessert, we each ordered a glass of Rosa Regale $12 each
FfRsi.jpg

I've always wanted to try this, and it was SO GOOD! The perfect amount of sweet & sparkling.
Sir's comments: I loved it, best wine I've ever had!

For my dessert, I had a Pear Tart with Toasted Almond Ice Cream I can't find this on any online menus
lgJNf.jpg

I hardly ate any of this, you'll see why in a minute. I ate a slice of pear which was yummy (pear's my favourite fruit). The ice cream was so good, but I only ate a few bites. It had a candle for my birthday!

Sir had Bananas and Caramel, crispy baked phyllo squares layered with banana, mascarpone mousse, and caramalized banana
OK2wb.jpg

I didn't try this.
Sir's comments: It was good but I didn't each much... oh and I also had...MICHAELA'S HAND IN MARRIAGE!!!
BCtep.jpg

This was what came with my dessert! Sir had been conspiring with California Grill staff & Disney Florist the whole time! The plate came with a silver dome which was removed when it was presented to me. On the plate was a gorgeous white satin Mickey ring pillow with red roses, a gorgeous tiara (while I'll use for our wedding) and a box with a BEAUTIFUL diamond engagement ring!
I couldn't believe how sneaky Sir was!! He'd called the manager the day before which is why we got the amazing table. And when I was gone to the washroom in between entrees & dessert the bartender came & got Sir's camera & offered to come take pictures of the proposal. That was so nice him! Thank you Fred!!! Sir got down on one knee in front of everyone, some people were outside waiting for Wishes luckily so our audience was smaller, and when it was over everyone clapped. Then about 1-2 mins later Wishes started and we could see them perfectly from our table. It was a complete dream come true! :lovestruc

I don't have the receipt for this meal, but I think I can be excused for that! We paid OOP for our 2 drinks & 2 glasses of champagne.
This will now be a must-do for every trip for us. I can't wait to re-visit the place where we got engaged.

I'm going to put a few more engagement pics in the next post for anyone who's interested!

Here's some engagement photos if anyone is interested!

Me, super excited with my beautiful tiara & ring!

We went to MK afterwards to get some engagement pictures!

Re-enacting the proposal on Main Street

I love this one!

Ewu2z.jpg

This was waiting for me back in our room, from Disney Florist. I can't wait to get pictures with these ears on our wedding day, and to use the Mickey flutes for our toasts!

This is the next day, at AK. I'd seen these ears a few days earlier and told Sir how it was so cool they had engagement ears. So of course the first thing I did the next am was buy some and wear them the rest of the trip!

This is a super cute picture we took with Minnie & Mickey the next night! It was their idea, and I love how it turned out!
wLAzT.jpg

This was, needless to say, my best day ever at Disney! I can't wait to go back for our Disneymoon next year!!!

Wow...super cool!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

I have heard some wonderful things about Calif Grill...maybe have to check it out the next time we are there.

Love the ears! Super fun...

Now I will be waiting for a wedding/disneymoon PTR!

Thanks!! Cali Grill was amazing, I can't wait to eat there again!
I've been thinking about doing some sort of PTR. My wedding won't be at Disney, but it is going to be Alice in Wonderland themed! It's Sept 21, 2013, and our Disneymoon will be in December!

My very first trip to WDW my family ate at the Cali Grill and witnessed a proposal that still makes me swoon to this day! Because of that I love seeing other people get engaged there. So cute! The hubs and I didn't get engaged OR married in WDW (I know, sheesh!) but we'll be celebrating our one year anniversary there and our actual anniversary dinner will be at the CG :flower3:.

Congrats to you!

Those pictures are perfect! I love hearing about disney engagements! Congrats! I love the picture with Mickey and Minnie!!
