1 bedroom vs. studio

Just curious which people us more. We really do not use the kitchen just light breakfast items and storing milk. I think 1 bedroom is the way to go with more room, DH thinks it is not worth the extra points and we should get a studio. Just curious (oh and by the way we are staying in a 1 bedroom)

One of the main reasons we bought into DVC was to get 1BR or larger. We like space. The only time I have ever stayed in a studio (except as part of a 2BR) was a three day business trip I had where I was alone. Note, we don't really use the kitchen to cook either (about the closest we come is sticking pop tarts in the toaster, or popcorn in the microwave).

how old are the kids? Do you want to be able to stay up once they are going to sleep? With the one bedroom, you could put them to bed in the LR while watching TV or sitting out on the balcony in the other room. For my trip in May 09 with DD and now probably 2 friends, I am going for a studio because we all go to sleep at the same time. Saving those extra points for another "studio" trip. BUT with the entire family of 5, we are staying in a 2 bedroom. Well worth EVERY point! (not to mention can't stay with 5 in a one bedroom).

With kids, we do the 1br. When it's just DW and I we do a studio.

We do the 1 bedroom even when it's just the two of us. We don't use the kitchen for cooking all that much, but I do use the full size refrigerator, real dishes (as opposed to paper) & dishwasher.

I really love that it has 2 TVs with two remotes and a washer/dryer in the unit. (We can stay for a week with just carry on). That jacuzzi tub and king sized bed are a nice luxury as well.

If we were still doing commando park touring, I'm sure the studio would be just fine. But since we're past that, I just love the extra space and amenities.

We take advantage of a full kitchen. Last year we stayed in a one bedroom. Had all breakfasts there, omelets, etc., usually packed a lunch or came back for lunch. On the days we packed lunch, we came back for dinner. Light cooking. Pasta with meat sauce, garlic bread, Caesar salad. Then fajitas another night. Still had dinners/lunch out a couple of tmes. Also, loved the extra room to kick back.

Also saved a lot of $$$ by ordering groceries than having the DDP!

anything more than that, & we get at least a one bedroom.

if we were members of the "more than 1000 point club" , we would probably get a minimum of 1-bdrm always (we currently only have 400 pts ~ a studio
at least 2x year, & 2bdrm every other eats up most of them).
btw, we do spend time in the room (mostly just dinner in the parks), & don't use the kitchen for much except the fridge (& maybe toast, on rare occassions).

We usually stay in a studio when it is just the 2 of us but now that we have stayed in a 1 bdrm(just the 2 of us) I know I will always prefer the 1 bdrm when points allow. Love the extra space, the tub and having the kitchen even if it is just to make breakfast a couple of mornings!

We love the one and two bedroom villas. We have a 3 year old and it is nice to put here to bed and still be able to stay up and watch TV or have a couple "cocktails" and not have to worry about waking her up. We usually use the 2 bedroom when going with grandma and grandpa.

I am strictly studio. I go for quantity of trips, not quality of accommodations.

In an upcoming trip, I'm staying in a studio (not my points) but I've gotten a
1BR when I've gone solo (and no, I don't have 1,000 points). I just love having my own "apartment."

We stayed in studios when the boys were younger, but now it is very difficult for me to book studios because of what the 1 bedrooms offer.

I like having the laundry in the unit, I like having real dishes and cutlery, I like the king bed and spa tub and I like how the bath is divided to give us 2 bath areas. I only take baths and Dh and the boys take showers, so the 1 bed fits us perfectly.

Also, we had a couple of really cold days last trip and we stayed in. I was really thankful we did not have a studio on those days. Everyone had their own space and those days were really relaxing instead of stressful because we were all in the same room. The kitchen was great too. I was glad we didnt have to venture out for food.

Since becoming members we've done studios twice and a 1 bedroom once, now that we've done the 1 bedroom, we'll most likely never go back to the studio. It was so much nicer having the extra room and the w/d! We also realized how much money on food it will save us!

You sound like me. I started off with enough points for a studio but I have added on this past summer and I'm in the process again so that I can stay in a 1 br for 7-10 nights as a solo. I like the extra space since I tend to spread out a bit in the room. I also like the idea of a washer/dryer in the unit so that I can take less clothes and thereby leave more room for souvenirs coming home. Plus I intend to make use of that jetted tub.

capecoddisneyfamily, I ended up booking a 1 bedroom for my trip coming up in November with my sister and her kids. I definitely wanted the extra space that a 1 bedroom would provide so that we are not tripping over each other.

Only time we don't get a 1 bdrm is when we go to VB and we get an OVIR. Really wish they had a OV1B. We prefer to cook most meals ourselves and like having the laundry in our unit.

(I guess that shows that I'm a studio type person, looking into getting our feet wet with DVC by starting small, buying a resale with enough points to let us book a studio for a week every other year)

Not necessarily. I just checked last week, no studios at all at BWV for all of June, July, August (well she did tell me there was one day-preferred in July.)
