1/6/2007 Early Roll Call...Anyone Else Going???

I just looked at the car rentals. Seems like Budget as the lowest rates : 35$ a day for a compact size (plus carseats). :drive:

Not bad! We have to rent a mini-van because... oh, did I mention that my friend and family will be going with us after all!!?? Really happy about that. Well, we need a mini-van. I booked it with Budget.

i was on the budget site just this weekend and didn't see that deal. i'm going back later today when i'm not at school!

NYAna - yeah for the school for letting them figure out a way to go! that probably made your day. i know what you mean about traveling in groups of disney lovers. some of my best trips were when i tagged along with my sister's family.

Are you a member of BJ's or Costco's or Sam's Club. You can get a discount by being a member of any of those companies.

Yes, 35 $ plus taxes. We have made our reservations. One for the 6th, from the Double Tree Hotel at WDW to Cape Canaveral, and vice-versa for the 13th. :drive:

But I think it has to do with the fact that we are from Canada. I just tried pretending I was as US resident, and it was 47.99 $ :confused3

What dinner seating do you all have?

I am stuck with the 8:30pm slot because I forgot to change it to the 6:30pm slot once my friends with kids decided to come along with us. My travel agent told me that the 6:30pm dinner is sold out and that she had to put us on a wait list. I hope that we can be changed.

Am I the only idiot that didn't think to change to the early seating? :confused3

We are late seating, but then we are 6 adults and being from California means its really only 5:30 for us.
We are shooting for Palo on either Wednesday or Friday for dinner and Sunday or Monday for brunch.

Wow...what a great site! We've been booked on this cruise for almost a year now, but as I've just made the final payment, we decided to start looking at some of the pages we bookmarked last Christmas...so here we are!

Our family consists of my wife and myself, and our 4 1/2 year old son...As of yesterday, we are now going to be joined by some great friends and their kids (4 1/2 year old son and 6 year old daughter). I've put off being excited about this since it always seemed so far away, but now that we're getting so close (or now that the final payment is out of my bank account and there's no turning back?) I'm pumped.

Can any repeat cruisers offer up one 'gotta do it' tip that made their previous trips more memorable?

Thanks in advance,

David

Welcome aboard David!
party: :welcome: party:

I will add your family to the group.

My son will also be 4 1/2 when we cruise! I also have a 2 1/2 daughter.

There are so many things to do, you won't be able to do it all, but look around this site and you will find many ideas. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

We booked back in October 2005, so we could book early seating from the start... :hourglass

I love this---

. Cool.

David,

Welcome aboard. We have started a virtual cruise album for those going on this cruise. If you click on the link in my signature, you can see it. If you want your family's pictures included, please email them to me at lpostic@mindspring.com. Make sure you give me your Dis name and the names of the persons in the picture so I get it right.

Ana,

You are not the only one at late seating. We did not book our cruise until this summer. We have late seating and are wait listed for early seating. I know that, if you cannot get your seating changed before the cruise, you can always try to get it changed on the first day right after you board.

One secret to those who might want to book another cruise (even DVC members), wait and book on the cruise. We booked the January cruise before our September cruise using DVC vacation points. Then, we learned that the points to book were less if we booked while on the cruise. DVC honored the on-board rate and we got points credited back to us, but it was a bit of a pain doing that.

Just to bring any one new up to date:

We are going to do a meeting on the ship on Saturday, January 6 at 2:30 p.m. in Promenade. I will endeavor to bring a camera to take a picture of the group. Perhaps we can get a passing CM to help with that so everyone can get in the picture.

If anyone has children in the age range of my girls (they are 12, but will probably be insisting by January they are almost 13 even though their bday is in Sept), let me know. They were on the ship in this last September and are thoroughly familiar with the new Ocean Quest and would be happy to show anyone around.

For those of you with children in the 10-14 age bracket, if you are going to give your child permission to check himself or herself in or out of the Lab, make sure you take walkie-talkies and plenty of batteries (batteries are VERY expensive at the terminal and on the ship). We did not take walkie-talkies on the last cruise and it was difficult keeping track of where the girls were.

And, as of our most recent cruise, they did not check kids in and out of Ocean Quest. They were allowed to come and go as they pleased. And, the only time there was check-in and check-out was when the Lab kids were there. And, then only the kids who had been checked into the Lab had to go through the check-out process.

I booked January 4th, 2006 and I also had the choice but since my friend decided to come along with us I didn't even think to change it to the earlier seating. Oh well. I have to stop thinking about it.

Welcome David and Family!!! So glad you'll be going us. We are a great bunch... and so is the Disney cruise that we all will be on. Welcome! :wave2:

My tip of the day : when you get your picture taken with a caracter, don't be afraid to ask the cm with the caracter to take a picture with your own camera. That way, you won't need to buy every picture from Shutters, because that can get very expensive. :scared1:
