Thanks for thinking of me. This is a bad time of year for me and this kind of storm makes it worse so I tend to hide for a few days.

We were spared from the hurricane, lots of rain and wind but no damage and no power outage in our immediate area.

Yesterday booked a totally last minute Carnival cruise out of Baltimore that leaves Friday, it's a 2 day to nowhere cruise. Going with my sis in law and her mom, it should be fun. We all need to just get away for a couple of days and this is perfect.

I'm glad to hear you got through unscathed from the storm. I was wondering who would be able to take that 2 day cruise when I read about it, so I'm glad it works out for you! Carnival is pretty good at making their lemons into lemonades for them.

I hope you have fun!

Glad you are okay and no damage! Enjoy your time with your Sister in law!

Hey all - glad everyone got through Sandy - in our corner of Ontario, it was mostly a whole lot of wind, and part of our city was without power for a few hours, but not us, fortunately!

Since there are a lot of folks with kids similar in age to my guy, I was wondering if anyone had checked out the Children's Museum in San Juan? If you google "museo del niño san juan" you'll find reviews, photos, etc. We will likely look at a beach in the morning, but I wondered about this in the afternoon (not by DCL excursions, obviously).

I still haven't worked out how transportation would work - still at the research stage at this point - we don't book excursions until Nov 12th (newbies...)

Glad to hear you were spared and had no damage or loss of electricity!

Hopefully nobody was affected severely by the hurricane. We are in NJ and got quite a nasty storm. Power was out for about 72 hours (came on right after we broke down and bought a generator lol). Both of my siblings are still without power. Thankfully just some busted fences, downed trees, power outages and spoiled food is the worse we are dealing with. We are only about 5 miles from LBI - which is pretty much under water and many many people lost their homes. On top of it all - my sister is getting married on Saturday. The last few days have been spent hunting down vendors and rescheduling appointments! Needless to say, this cruise can't come soon enough lol :-)

I couldn't imagine the stress of finding those things for a wedding at this point, but hope everything runs smoothly Saturday.
Don't forget to turn your food spoilage into your insurance company for a claim. We had friends that weren't going to and at the last minute they decided to file a claim for spoiled food and their claim was almost $1500, insurance paid it with no questions. They didn't realize they had so much food in their freezer and they were very glad they decided to file the claim.

My sis in law's mom lives in Cape May and she was spared from any damage.

It's heartbreaking to see the pics of all the damage.

I got the email from them and decided to just go, didn't have anything better to do this weekend. :rolleyes1

Next Tues. we fly to FL to enjoy the end of Food & Wine, the first MK Christmas Party, and visit our DD. It's going to be a very busy trip and my DH wants to do a few things around the house down there.

Sounds like fun! we're going ahead with a basement finishing (er, insulation, walls and electrical... but no floors or trim or anything) that should finish up around our cruise. That means, this weekend, we get to clean out the basement and finally get rid of the TV stand my husband insisted we keep so that he could sell it. In 2008. He's got a week and then we're taking a saw to it!

Right now we have 1400 unfinished square feet and we're turning 800 of that into living space, so we need to move/rearrange/discard, as construction is scheduled to start the Monday or Tuesday after Thanksgiving!

(on the upside, that will be the reason we'll have to not spend the whole weekend with the in-laws shhhhh)

FE groups are like a secret santa group on the ship. You sign up your cabin to participate in giving gifts to the other cabins in your group and in return you get gifts from everybody in the group. Most of the gift have the cruise or ship theme to them, most of the gift makes for good memories. That is the best way I can tell what FE Groups are.

What kind of gifts? is there a $$$ limit? How many to a group? Sounds interesting :)

Wow this is coming on so fast! My Canadian friends, those in Ontario, may ask what your average airfare is? I'm finding flights really pricey for Florida.

Will there be a meet up for us all while we are on the cruise to faces to handles ;)

Sorry- can't help - for the first time EVER, we got all our flights on Aeroplan points. I nearly fell over when it worked out - direct flights out of YYZ to MCO, at the times we wanted. Had to get my husband to check about 3 times as I couldn't actually believe it.

Back in July when we were booking, I looked at US airports (Syracuse is closest to us) but by the time we factored in driving there, in January, on roads we don't know well, and needing to stay overnight both ways for the flights we were looking at, the stress just wasn't worth the savings. We don't love driving down the 401 to Toronto, but we're used to it, and know where we can stop if the weather is bad. It might just have been that time of year, though - I've read other people have great luck with US flights.

That is awesome for aeroplan! I'm short on points and to top up isn't worth it. I'm hoping for my next trip I'll have enough lol It sucks I'm about 8000 short for my son and I.

I don't drive, so going to the USA to fly isn't an option for me, I guess I'll continue to stalk the airlines lol

No there is not a $$ limit but I dont think anybody spends much money usually its small or handmade gifts. We have 12 cabins to a group. Every adult gives a room gift and a person gift. Kids (under 18) only give persons gifs. Hope you come join our FE Group
