Hey Everyone!
We had a great time! 95% of the cruise was perfect for us. I found the entertainment made the cruise worth every penny. The food was a bit bleh at times. I don't want to see a scrambled egg or mcdonalds style hashbrown for a LONG time! LOL. The pancakes/waffles were terrible. I did find breakfast a let down, and we tried a few places. Not the worst thing to have happen though and it didn't damper the cruise. Our dining team was TERRIBLE - thats a whole other thread. LOL. We skipped out on dinner 3 times because we could not do anymore 2.5 hour dinners with horrible service. We went on the last night and it only made us remember WHY we skipped the other nights. Our room steward was wonderful! I tipped him extra.
But for those of you who don't know - Meg got injured on the 2nd last night. We went to studio sea to play the pirates spin the wheel game. All week she had been trying to get picked to play - we tried as a team, and just never picked. Finally - she got her turn and got picked to go up and play. The first challenge was something about the tower of treasure. They had to build it as high as they could in 30 seconds and the highest team won. Well I don't know what the heck Disney staff were thinking, but it was all pirates treasure - brass objects, etc... and her team's toppled and she was kneeling down - it toppled down on her knees and sliced them both open.
Blood everywhere.....not a fun scene. So I ran her to the door and got the first CM I could find - showed her and she went into full panic mode like the ship was sinking - she had NO CLUE what to do. She ran back inside Studio Sea for help and never came back out!!!! So the only person I could see was the guy at the DVC desk - he saw meg covered in blood and ran to a phone - and then all of a sudden the woman from studio sea reappeared with napkins! WTH?
So meanwhile Meg is in tears, my hands are covered in blood from putting pressure on her knees and this girl says to follow her. She walks us through shutters and the art gallery (with blood dripping all over - meg is proud to say she found some of them the next day - dont ask LOL) - and down to the promenade lounge - she starts seeking out some guy and I am thinking "WHY are we in the lounge? Maybe there is a first aid here?" - and I realize she was finding a friend/boyfriend to deal with this - she was panicked. The guy immediately phoned the medical center and then he had to GIVE HER DIRECTIONS on how to take us there!!! No joke!
So we get there and the nurse was incredible, she took care of the cuts and stuff, but Meg had to have a tetnus shot. OUCH! Then some head of security white uniform guy came and took a report. He apologized,etc....
We were there for just over an hour. They asked if we had medical insurance (we do), but then the ship said they would take care of the costs (ya think?).
Off we went - Meg's knees and arm were so sore for the next 2-3 days. Poor kid.
I was really convinced that we were going to go back to the room at some point and find a big stuffed mickey or a gift basket or SOMETHING - but nothing at all. There was a voicemail from Darren saying he hoped "Young Elizabeth was feeling better". He didn't even get the name right!
At this point I was really frustrated with
DCL and had a 'I am never cruising DCL again' moment.
My tablemates were woken up by a drunk at their door one night and they got chocolate covered strawberries sent to their room for their trouble, yet my daughter is sliced open by their game props and they don't even send a balloon??????
I figure I didn't spend enough on the ship as I am not a drinker and didn't book excursions,etc... through them.
I did get past the 'I hate DCL' though, and had rebooked for Feb 2010 before this incident, although I admit I am still considering RCI right now.
I did put in a complaint with guest services about how it was handled by the cast member that night.
We loved the cruise - the entertainment was top notch and we loved every show (yes, even the hypnotist - but I love silly stuff like that).
We loved getting treats in our FE (thanks for spoiling us!) and making some new friends.
We loved the deck party and watching the movie under the stars - so many wonderful memories.
