We have 2 birthdays to celebrate today!

Happy Birthday Joanne!

:cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake::cake:

Happy Birthday Tanya! (DW of manascarfan)

Hope you have a great birthday from another Cancer.

Good point Robin! We have a tentative time set up of 3pm but where to have it?

We've had them up on deck 10 before and that has been successful as it is easy to get to, not a lot of traffic at that time, and if people have kids in the goofy pool they won't be far away. It is also an easy way for everyone to remember where to meet up to enjoy sailaway. The down side is if the weather is bad we'd need to find a new place and some have complained it is too hot up there.

Mark and I did a meet on our April cruise in the Promonade Lounge at 3pm. It was attended pretty well (we had a really quiet group on that cruise). The nice thing is that it is out of the elements, easy to find, and climate controlled. The down side is that people tended to come and just sit in groups and not really mingle.

So what does everyone think? Is one location better than another? Any other locations that you think would work? We'll be happy to put the final decision up on the website for all to see. Also does 3pm work for everyone? We've used it in the past as it is late enough everyone should be on board and it gives about 1/2 hour before you need to leave and get ready for the safety drill.

I like deck 10 but it does get hot and crowded. If we could just remove some of the tables that would make it better.

Actually, three! Today is DH's 39th birthday.

 Happy Birthday Bill!

:cake: DD5 celebrates her 6th birthday during our cruise (September 23rd/At Sea day). I am still undecided on how to make that day "extra" special for her. Any ideas?

- Jennifer

Bill Happy 39th.

For your daughter make sure that dcl knows its her birthday. Also you could order the room decorated for it. Have you checked with the spa to see if she could have a pedicure, manicure and an updo like they do at the parks.

This will be our first cruise ever. September 21st can't get here soon enough. We are being brave and taking all 6 of our children. Yes I said 6. I have 4 girls ages 13, 9, 6 and 1; and 2 boys ages 12 and 5. Anyone have any good suggestions of what to do and what to expect?

I'm probably late at getting to this and should have been planning for months, but I've been busy working and working.

We are staying in 2 cabins on deck 8 hopefully its a good one. Not that we plan on being in the room that much.

Any tips and tricks will be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the crew Dejno Family. It is never too late to join. Please feel free to jump right in.

Best thing to do is check out the main cruise board. you will find a wealth of information there about cruising. But still come here and we will do our best to keep you up to date.

Also read the first post on this thread if you would like to get connected with the rest of us. Some of the kids use the information to pre-meet other kids thier age so that when they get on the cruise, they already know a few people.

Deck 8 is a great place to stay, in my opinion. It is so easy to get to the pools.

Get the kids signed up for the clubs online. If they are like my son, you will be lucky to see them much. They get too involved with thier new friends in the clubs. We always make him join us for a few dinners.

My main recommendation for a cruise is RELAX and ENJOY.

Welcome Denjo family! You aren't that far from my neck of the woods. Mark and I live in the Northern suburbs of Chicago!

Robin has already given you great information. By all means check out the first post and we'd love to include your family in the buttons etc.

There is also a stick on the main cruise forum which acts as an FAQ. That is a good place to start.

As to what to expect...well if you click the member cruise logo in my signature that will bring you to our groups web page (not to be confused with the official DVC web page). There are some links there to past Member Cruises (my DH and I have been on the 03, 05, 06 and 07 Member Cruises).

The kids will have a blast because there tend to be fewer kids on the Member Cruises as opposed to the regular cruises. That means the clubs and pools aren't as packed.

Any questions you have please ask away as we are all here to help!

Okay Cruisers.

I need your attention for a moment.

For anyone interested in hanging fish extenders and trading goodies. Please send me an email with your ScreenName, Stateroom #, No of adults in stateroom and ages of kids in stateroom. I will make up a list of those wanting to participate and distribute it at the DISMeet. For those not able to make the DISMeet, just leave me a call at my stateroom and I will get a list to you. Send all emails to TnRobin@wdwinfo.com

As for the DISMeet, looks like we will meet around 3:00 on Sunday. I will try to iron out the details like location soon. I hope everyone will attend as I am planning a game or two. And there will be (HOPEFULLY) be prizes.

Welcome! My daughter is 9 - although she will turn 10 the first day of the cruise. This'll be her 5th Disney cruise, and 10th cruise overall. If you'd like her to email your kids just let me know. We're actually leaving on Sunday for a Princess cruise to the Baltics, but she should have time before then to write if you'd like. We're traveling with some friends who'll have 2 more 10 year old girls, and 2 12 year old boys. We're all on deck 8 also!

One decision you'll have to make is whether or not you want your 8-12 year olds to be able to sign themselves in and out of the club. Since this is their first cruise, and they won't be on the ship long enough to really know their way around, you might not want do do that. But if you do, I can give you some tips on rules you might want to set with them up front.

We've never done a member cruise before, so I don't know what to expect there. But here are some standard tricks/tips:

Pack the kids' swimsuits in your carry ons so they can go swimming as soon as you board the ship.

Don't miss the Sailaway Party up on Deck 9 right after the lifeboat drill.

At Castaway Cay, the further you go from the ship, the less crowded the beach becomes.

Bring an extension cord for the cabin.

If you are in inside cabins, they are dark 24/7 so you might want to bring a nightlight or glow in the dark alarm clock.

The times for character meet and greets will be in your daily navigator.

Oh, and bring different colored highlighters. Each night, before we go to bed my DD and I highlight the activities we plan on doing the next day. We use pink for her, yellow for me, and orange for things we both plan on doing. It makes it so easy the next day to see who is where.

Don't overpack. On this cruise you can get by with a swimsuit and cover up for all 3 days.

Do take a look at the shore excursions on Castaway Cay. Last time we were there we booked the package that includes snorkeling gear, a float and a bike rental. You can swap the gear around within your party so you have everything you need to last all day!

The kids can eat lunch and dinner in the clubs if they want to (or you want them to), which makes it so much easier for the parents to have some down
time.

Have you watched the Disney Cruise Line DVD? It really captures the magical experience onboard.

One final tip. If you think there's any possibility you will be going on another Disney cruise at anytime, then book another one onboard. That will allow you to save 10% on your next cruise, plus you'll get an onboard credit - the size of the credit depends upon the length of the cruise. You can change the date/length of the cruise without losing your onboard booking benefit. Since there are 8 of you, I'd suggest just booking 2 cabins with 2 people in each room. Then you can add the others later after you solidify a date. If you have a Disney Visa card, then you'll have 6 months from the date of the deposit to pay off the card. So essentially this gives you 6 months of an interest free loan to decide on whether or not you even want to use the booking!

What I'll do is book a 4 night cruise for late 2009 (since the deposit is lower for a 3/4 night than a 7), then when the 2010 schedules come out, I'll change the reservation to the new date.

I'm sure that's enough for now!

Make sure that you take something to the GR desk for all the characters to sign. They will get as many signatures as possible and return it to you on the last night. That would be a great way to have a reminder of her bday and the cruise.

Happy Birthday Joanne, Tanya, and Bill!
Welcome Dejnos! This will be our first member/Disney cruise, but we have lots of tips for cruises in general. I found a link to the Ultimate Packing List on another Dis board. The URL is http://www.geocities.com/Calgon1/UPL-2_Adults_Warm.html and this list has EVERYTHING. On the site the guy has also listed a packing list for cold climates and a list for children. He suggests you save it as a Word document and go through and delete things that don't pertain to you. (Diapers if your child is out of them, for example) Poke around though; you'll find plenty of tips!

Tina - I am sending you the fish extender information. Are we going to have a cut-off date for participation? We want to buy things here before we leave but need to know how many people and such.

Mary - I am sending a correction through PM regarding our information.

Ok I shouldn't have left this up to hubby. He has put off getting our passports until now. I almost freaked out when I saw this!I just saw how long it can take to get passports. Is this seriously true??? I think I'm going to have to pay a lot of $$$ to get them before the cruise if I can even get them at all. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Any tricks anyone knows?

Reports for passports lately have been that they have been processed pretty quickly. If you apply right away I think you'll be fine.

The State Dept is pretty much caught up on the passports now. They are coming back in an average of 3 weeks judging from what folks have posted on the boards. Turn in your applications this week - you'll all need to be present when you turn in the applications - and you should be more than fine!:thumbsup2

Oh, also on my last post when I said a swimsuit and coverup would be fine for all 3 days, I did mean during the daytime! You'll want to dress up a bit in the evening :-)

A passport is not required for U.S. Citizens see below. You are only required to have one if you have to leave the trip early.

Travel Documentation Information

The following information is provided to help clarify which citizenship documents you may require when traveling with Disney Cruise Line®. Required travel documents vary depending on your national citizenship status and the itinerary of your Disney cruise vacation.

United States Citizens

Caribbean, Bahamian and Mexican Riviera Cruises
In order to board the ship, all Guests are required to provide proper travel documentation. Guests unable to provide proof of citizenship will not be permitted to sail. All Guests claiming U.S. citizenship, including children, must present one of the following as proof of U.S. citizenship:

A valid, unexpired U.S. passport.

Original Certificate of Naturalization; additionally, Guests 18 years of age and older must present a photo ID issued by a Local, State or Federal Government agency.

Copies of any of the above documents are not acceptable.

We are unable to make any exceptions or accept any other forms of documentation for U.S. citizenship. If you do not present the proper documentation, you will not be permitted to board the ship. In addition, on the day of your sailing, all Guests must board the ship no later than 4:00 p.m. Please plan your arrival accordingly to avoid the possibility of not being permitted to sail with us

Ok now I'm completely confused. Maybe I will have to call and see if birth certificates are okay or if i have to pay the unbelieveably high $$$ for 8 pass ports. Glad I asked before we went today. If we don't have to get them it will mean more $$$ to spend at Disney =) Thank you for the update.

We have a theme!

Sailing on the waves of "Disney Inspirations," the S.S. Member Cruise 2008 will go where no voyage has gone before. To a place where Disney meets Dali. Where even blindness is illuminating. And where a blank sheet of paper is the ultimate opportunity. Meet some of today's leading visionaries as they reveal the inspirations behind Disney classics and offer a sneak peek at "what's next." Marvel at inspirational underdogs whose real-life stories illustrate the endless power of the human spirit. Learn from the experts as you tap into your inner artist and bring your own inspirations to life.

OK now that I called, I'm even more confused. The guy said that they weren't required, but if you had to be flown off the cruise for any reason they wouldn't let you with out a passport. They aren't required but recommended. HUMMM. Anyone have any hints as to if I should chance it or not??? How often does someone need to be flight'd off the ship? Not that I couldn't save one of my own children being a trauma nurse. I'm almost a little of a Mc Guiver. LOL
