Hi Everyone! We haven't been on much lately - life is busy with our youngest graduating - just high school, but still a milestone. She was coming home from an AP exam last week at rush hour and had a wreck - totalled the car we had gotten for her to drive, but she is okay and really shouldn't be from the damage. We are just so thankful! Lots of family is coming in this week for the ceremony on Thursday. She is the only granddaughter on my side. Our church had a nice ceremony and reception to honor all graduates. It has been a nice weekend. School is winding down which only means busy season for teachers! I am changing jobs/schools, so I will have to pack up my classroom as well - what fun! I will be so ready for this cruise come September! Anyway - I agree the website should be updated. And we can't wait to go to Palo's for something - we were thinking the champagne brunch.

Have a nice evening everyone!

Does anyone remember when they updated the website last year? I can make my Palo ressies on June 8th, and it'd be nice to have an idea of what the plans will be for the sailing.

Good morning everyone! Happy Tuesday!

I'm sure they had already updated the website by this time last year. Not sure what is holding them up this year. Maybe they have a new team working on it. The communication sure isn't what it was back in 2005 or last year. More like 2006 which wasn't that great.

Mimi - sounds like things have been busy at your house but all good things. Congrats to your youngest on graduating.

JsMom2 - I would just go ahead and book Palo. Then once on board you can decide if what they have planned is worth skipping or not. Even when they announce the guests we don't really know the actual times etc until we get the navigators on board.

OK I'm starting to get excited now. Actually thinking about what to wear and how I'm going to pack. Taking an infant sure does add items to the list. :) My nephew looked at pictures and said 'momma that's a small boat!'. HA!!!! Can't wait to see his face when we board.

Come on DVC..update the website. We just need a little taste :goodvibes

Welcome to the 2008 DVC Member Cruise Meets Thread!

Mark and I will be happy to do the website again as well as DIS buttons for everyone. Here is the info we'll be looking for.

Send your info to member2008@monorailgreen.info

  • Dis name of anyone in your party that has one. We want at least one person from each group to be an active DIS member.
  • Real names of eveyone in your party and relationship (husband, wife, daughter, friend, etc.)
  • Cabin number(required only for the button - if you don't want it published we will honor that but we want to make sure the buttons get to you if you miss the meets)
  • Birthdays of everyone in your party
  • Anniversary date
  • Year you bought into DVC and where you own (for the buttons)
  • Early/late seating
  • Where you are staying the night before the cruise? (not for the grid on the web page but so we can try and coordinate a DIS meet the night before)
  • Button? yes or no (specify who is getting one- be detailed!)
  • Photo (.jpg or .gif please so we can get to "meet" you and your family)
The above is just a way for everyone to get to know each other before the cruise. If the group wants we can password protect the picture gallery page.

How much info you give is totally up to you. We only ask for the cabin numbers for the buttons so we don't get stuck with them and have no way to get them to you.

Also the buttons are at no cost to you. They are our gift to the group to help identify fellow DISers.

Here are the links for the main web page and member gallery:

Morning all,

Mary, hope your weekis going ok.

Mimi congrats to the graduate. Time goes so fast.

Dan- Roger is up in Boston this week for work, he is hoping to catch a RedSox game. He will be back Thursday am and then we drive to Arkansas for the week end.

DVC- update please!!!! Us compulsive planners need to know.

Have a great tuesday all.

Joanne - I'm finally caught up on e-mails and the paperwork isn't too bad. I haven't gotten back into my exercise routine so that is up next. In fact I'm thinking of going for a walk at lunch.

I agree that DVC needs to do some updates. We haven't even heard the theme of this years cruise yet. Come on DVC - we want to get excited and start planning!

Thanks Mary. I'm just one of those folks who's also not a fan of the pirate menu - I want to be sure to miss it! ;)

Sig image update:

Due to the fact that the web adress for the Dis photo gallery changed, the image link is now broken, you'll need to adjust it in your signatures, the new link to the image is:

I've used the contact us button on the DVC Member site and sent an e-mail to Member Services. I asked them to pass the word on to the Marketing team to update the website. Maybe if they hear it from enough directions (I believe Bruce said he called before he left for WDW) that they will do the updates.

I figured it couldn't hurt and I think we've all been pretty patient about it.

PDFG and all our friends who need it.

OK I'm starting to get excited now. Actually thinking about what to wear and how I'm going to pack. :goodvibes

We are just getting ready for our June Pilgimage to the World!! :cool1:

10 days and counting, almost time for that single digit dance!!! Woo Hoo!!! :rotfl2:

We (DW and I) are really starting to get syc'd for the cruise. One question, several of our friends suggested getting some sea sickness patch from our physician? Is this really necessary, it is our first cruise and want to take any possible precautions.

I think this is really an individual thing. I get motion sickness if I sit to close to the screen in movies, but I don't use a patch on cruises. I pack ginger capsules for the first bit and take Drammamine or Bonine at night and have been fine even when it seemed the whole ship was sick on rough seas on "the really big ships that have those awesome huge stabilizers." I have friends who swear by the patch for their family of 5. You might want to talk to your physician about it and give him or her a good idea of your motion sickness threshold. How do you do on thrill rides at amusement parks? How do you do in the car? Can you read while riding in the car without getting sick? Have you ever been deep sea fishing - how did you do there? (I got very sick deep sea fishing, but the vessel is so small in comparison.) I know you want to be prepared - we did too the first time out. It was even more important the second time when we brought the kids. I'm sure you'd love an answer one way or the other, but I really do think it is an individual thing.

Yes, it is an individual thing. I am VERY susceptible to motion sickness. I've been carsick, airsick, seasick, amusement park ride sick, you name it! But I love to cruise, so what I do is start taking Bonine 24 hours before I start my travels. Then I keep it in my system the whole time I'm on the ship. If we have a lot of port days and the seas are very calm overall, I may cut back to 1 a day. But otherwise I take 1 when I wakeup and another around 12 hours later. If the seas are rough I go to 1 every 8 hours. The great thing about Bonine is it doesn't make you drowsy. For some reason though when I take the less-drowsy version of Dramameine (even though its the same medicine) it DOES make me sleepy. :confused3 When we were on the Magic last December one of the days was so rough that they had to close the pools and deck 10. A lot of the crew were seasick, but I was fine. :thumbsup2

Whatever you decide to use, just be sure to try it out before your cruise. The patch can have some side effects like blurred vision, dry mouth, and dizziness.

A couple of non-drug options are Sea Bands or eating sliced green apples (no skin).

Good morning everyone - happy Wednesday!

I can't really chime in on the seasickness because I've never really felt it even on some rough sea days. I have heard wonderful things about Bonine and that it is best to start before you board. I also think it is a good advice to try something well before the cruise to see how your body reacts to it.

Just realize while looking at my ticker that the cruise is in exactly 4 months! Wow now it seems even closer! :)

We signed the paperwork yesterday to sell our Vero Beach contract. We realized that we weren't using Vero as we had hoped so we are selling it and will put that money towards DVC Hawaii when they start selling it. In the meantime we still have our main Boardwalk contract.

We don't get seasick either. But the member cruise doesn't go very far so we didn't move very fast at all.

Joanne - you need to make one little fix for the logo. You have .gif/
needs to go inside the bracket before img.

Thanks to all of you for the replies about the Sea Sickness stuff. We will investigate all of those options. We both have our yearly checkups with the doctor in June after we return from the world and we will ask his opinion.

I really don't get sick on anything. My DW however is a different story. Though she does not get sick on Roller Coasters as she refuses to ride them. :confused3

Appreciate the different options you have all provided though.

Thanks!
