Give Lady Liberty a salute for us as you sail by and be sure and duck as you go under the bridge.![]()
Will do. The last time I was traveling on a motorcycle and specifically went there to see the Statue of Liberty. It was 1986 (?) and Lee Iacoca (sp?) from Chrysler was a key player in her restoration which was initiated around 1976 during our bi-centenial. It was just before the 4th of July, and sadly she was all covered up for the big unveiling. So I have never really seen the Statue of Liberty. It will be great seeing her as my ancestors might have when the first arrived to America.
I would still have to research when they actually arrived, though. As I recall Pheobious (sp?) Dickerson arrived sometime in the 1800's, and if my history is right the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France on our country's 100th birthday in 1876. The other neat thing is, he may have even sailed Cunard Lines to get here. Cunard has a link to passenger records on their website, but I have to figure out how to spell his first name before I can find out. Plus a lot of passengers were merely listed as 'male' with no name.
