09/18/11 - DVCers Take Over the Dream (S.S. Member Cruise 2011) - Thread #3

Ophelia left this world in my arms, with a tennis ball in her paws while eating cookies. My heart is broken and I can barely see through the tears and write this and simply don't understand how I even have tears left to cry. I didn't want to go home yesterday from the vet because I simply could not bear the fact that she wouldn't be there with some new design idea, or trying to climb a tree to get her lizards or handing me a tennis ball and running to the side of the house waiting to play roof top tennis ball. It is so hard for me to accept the fact that these things are no longer a reality but a precious memory. Wally and I are devastated over losing her and we can't believe how empty the house seems without her here.

Terrie and Wally, I'm so very sorry for your loss. Pets always become such an important part of your family that their loss is just as devastating as anyone else. May many happy memories and wonderful photos remind you what a great time you had while she was here with you. We miss our Holly everyday.

It seems like for the most part everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and some got some good Black Friday deals. We spent our Thanksgiving with my folks. We had a wonderful time and it was good seeing them. However, DH's Granny passed away on Thanksgiving. DH took it well. She had been sick and stopped eating almost two weeks ago. We are thankful that she is not in pain anymore. We will be heading to the funeral this week. She lived a long life. She will definitely be missed.

Marsha, so sorry to hear about your loss, especially on a holiday. Thank goodness she is in a better place and at peace. Our hearts and prayers go out to you and all of the family.

There isn't anything better than having your morning coffee watching the animals from the balcony. If I close my eyes and think real hard, maybe I can transpose myself to your balcony - if you don't mind.

Oh no, I hope Chip and Dale didn't get too close to Dudley.

Laura, sounds like your family had a long day yesterday, too. Didn't you get up at 5:30 (and were up late the night before)? Glad you made it and are already living the dream.

The "girls" are 19 and 24 yrs old, right? Have they never been to WDW, or was it lit up special for Christmas?

As I recall, the castle is really smaller than it looks. The FAA wouldn't allow any structure over 200 (?) ft tall to be built into their airspace, so the caslte uses perspective (like how RR tracks appear to converge as viewed from a distance). Structurally tapering things narrower as they get higher, rather than keeping things parallel and cylinderical.

Your Disney trivia for the day.

Hi John, Welcome back.

Disney chose to build structures under 200 ft (Expedition Everest, tallest @ WDW, is just a tad below 200ft) because the FAA has strict lighting requirements for anything 200ft and over for aircrafts. I'm guessing those lights take away some of the magic.

The Tower of Terror is also just under 200ft in height.

Forced perspective. Same as on Main Street. Those buildings aren't really 3 stories tall. It is accomplished by making the heights of each level shorter than it would be in actually along with making things smaller as it gets higher.

More Disney Trivia: Disney World is still a "no fly zone".

Although, I haven't noticed that the flies pay any attention to that! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

Hey folks! Just checking in. I think I'm going to be perpetually behind until after the holidays. With the travel and the house construction as well as working to pay for it all I'm having a hard time keeping up.

Just wanted to let you all know that even when I'm not posting you are making me smile. :cool1: and laugh :rotfl2:

Terrie- I'm so sorry for your loss. I've been there and it is so hard. Hugs from all of us! (real ones to be delivered in September)

:grouphug:

Thank you Andy ... Tracking this is a great idea ... I take back all the bad stuff I ever said about you. :thumbsup2

It was an afterthought... That is why it was another post. :cool1:

Well done Dan.

Hey if you want to really get a good look at insects at Disney, stay at Wilderness Lodge and walk down to the shuttle boat launch. After sunset there were so many misquitos right along the shoreline that I had to pull Laran back down to the dock! We also had a snake who wanted to watch the Movie After Dark with us.

Today was the first measurable snowfall this season, and the first day since February that the temperature has not gone above 30. :-(
