Did you ever post the pics of the amazing stuff she made?

I remember when our DD's were about that age, and a bit older. They can get pretty downright creative if given the opportunity! Those are some of the most precious memories you can have, IMO!

Dan, I have not been able to post a picture yet, just emailed them so far. Waiting for DW to return to get our information about our ATT Uverse. I think we have web hosting available. Then figure out how to upload photos to it, followed by linking that to DISboards. I know sounds like the hard way, but I'm trying to keep a little bit of security/privacy from the entire world.

Thanks for asking, maybe next week (if I don't get dragged into something else to do).

That worked perfectly. I read it as an echo and knew exactly what you meant immediately. Had a good chuckle. :lmao:
I am often self amusing. Most times, if anybody else gets it, that is an added benefit!

Good call on the dishwasher. What was she doing in the UK?

She works for Rolls-Royce here in Indy. But the company is owned by the British, so she spends almost half of her time in the UK (and abroad).

Everyone asks if we can get an employee discount on a new car. Well, they sold the car division off to BMW a number of years ago. This is the jet engines side of their business (civilian and military). So I tell them, no we can't get an employee discount on a car, BUT we do get a GREAT discount on new jet engines.

Excellent! They have made great engines for years! Even back in the prop days.

I used to go to several hydroplane boat races. Before turbines bacame popular, the all ran military surplus V-12 engines. One of the three models was the Roll-Royce (Rolls/Griffin I believe).

One time we were flying back from Norway. The ONLY time we got bumped into First Class for the entire trip was from DC (I think) to Chicago. 10 minutes out we lost an engine. No real big deal for me, it was my third time, plus it wasn't lost, I could still see it attached to the wing. Anyway, declared an emergency landing, returned to the airport, and landed safely. As we disembarked, I told my wife to give the pilot a businees card, and tell him, "call me if you want a good engine."

I think of it like this. GE, who is first in quantity, makes off-the-shelf engines. R-R engineers engines for your application per your specifications.

Did you finish your shelves in the garage?

Yes and no. All are painted and tacked onto the brackets which are all mounted. But on the first shelf, I'm getting some boxes tending to stick to the paint, so I'm gonna hold of on loading the shelves for a while and give the paint time to fully cure.

so, you wanna run this up to 300 before we go to bed??

hahahaha! That is too funny! "I could see it on the wing..." :lmao:

I doubt it. I decided not to play the game. If you want to, I will help you run up the count, then you can try to score both prizes. It would be a first this year, but Wally says it has been done before.

Oh yeah, I forgot your DD lives in London. I guess that's partly why you asked about Lara. She has been flying in/out of Heathrow lately. I guess the schedule from there is better.

That would be quite nice, and I would appreciate it greatly!

It is also easier to get to from a hotel. The tube runs right to it!

Their headquarters is Derby (pronounced Dah-bee), so it's a 2 hr drive from London, and about the same (but less traffic) from Midlands (I think that's the other nearby international airport).

Yeah, one lives in London and the other lives in Portland, OR. It takes just about as long to get to either one!

They used to pick her up in a Limo. Until she found out what they charged for this convienent service. We are definately not extravagant people, and see no reason to waste money, ours or someone elses. Now she rents a car. This gives her more flexibility in hotel location in Derby too.
