Night Karen,
Night Everyone...gotta get up early to run people over (just kidding) with my Segway @ EPCOT :lmao:

Hi everybody! I thought I'd share a few pics as promised from our trip.

This is Luke the horse who took us on the Haunted Carriage Ride at Ft. Wilderness

IMG_1243.jpg

These are some of the creative designs people came up with to decorate their golf carts for the golf cart parade at Ft. Wildnerness.

We went horse back riding while we were there. My horse is Minnie and Wally's is Bugsy.

The Hit Girl costume was a hit  I got lots of great comments from castmembers and some who pleaded for Hit Girl not to kill anyone at Magic Kingdom :lmao: I don't know what it is with me and weaponry but I was thoroughly searched by security. The guy kept asking if my grenade was a toy :confused3 I was like, yeah, of course  I mean seriously,it looks and feels like plastic AND its bright yellow :rolleyes1

Here is one of the cooler costumes we saw there.

Duffy in his Woody costume at Ft. Wilderness.

Duffy went boating on Bay Lake. Wally's teaching him to drive a boat :lmao:

Minnie was thrilled to see Duffy at Chef Mickey's in his Buzz Lightyear costume :rotfl2:

Terrie Thanks for sharing the pics. They are great! Love the costume. What's the story around Duffy? Is this like Flat Stanley type of thing where you take pictures with it in all different places?

I'm bringing my two teen boys. We recently (last year) have made the Court of Honor planning and executing the realm of the Scouts. We just have a mentor (usually the Communications MBC) work with the planner(s) to make sure all the bases are covered. This has taken SUCH a weight off my shoulders. Now I only have to give a compiled list of awards, etc. to the scout doing the program, buy the awards and fill out the cards (or print them). Everything else is taken care of. I used to have to do it all. SOOO exhausting!!

I volunteered to help out the person who has responsibility. She does advancements for one of the cub scout packs. She agreed to do advancements for the boy scout troop not knowing she would be expected to do everything for Court of Honor. I was responsible for advancements in my son's cub scout pack past several years. My son had his bridging ceremony in March and started boy scouts the very next night.

The court of honor they had in the spring was a pot luck dinner. I think that's what you call it. For the fall event they just have everyone bring a dessert. My job is to send out all the event details, coordinate set up, supplies, etc. I have the easy job.

Good Night Everyone!

I'm thinking I need to create a play book of all the people on this thread. It would be like a cheat sheet with all the details so I can keep things straight.:teacher:

I'd have to keep it with me at all times so I can quickly refer to it as needed.

This will be our second cruise but the first time I am booked on more than one cruise at the same time. Not sure how others that post on multiple threads can keep up and keep it all straight. At least a few folks from here are also going on the 5 night in 2012 so that helps.

Sending MAGICal, WONDERful, and DREAMy thoughtsand prayers to everyone out there that needs them. Stay Safe!

My job is to send out all the event details, coordinate set up, supplies, etc. I have the easy job.

That's exactly the stuff that we've handed over to the boys now. The scout plans the COH, decides what refreshments, ceremonies, MCs the evening, makes up the program (most of the boys use the template that I created years ago as a base for theirs, no need to reinvent the wheel if they like it), is responsible for getting it printed, asks for volunteers or recruits boys to help with set up, clean up and setting up and serving refreshments, etc. The mentor is there to lay out what needs to be taken care of and to check in with the scout to make sure he's on track. He's free to ask any of the other scouts to help him with anything (or everything) so he doesn't get too overwhelmed.

The only adult involvement comes from the Scoutmaster who chats with the scout about what needs to be in the program on his end, the adult mentor who sits down with him to help and encourage him, and the Advancement Chair (me) who collects paperwork, processes the advancement, gets a list to the scout (which he is supposed to contact me for when he is ready to work on the program), buys the awards, fills out the cards and makes sure they are delivered to the COH location early enough signatures from the Scoutmaster, SPL and Committee Chair.

I used to do everything for a COH and it would literally take me a solid 40 hours worth of work to get it all done ... if it went smoothly. Now I can have it all done in a matter of hours (if it goes smoothly). And the boys get a GREAT learning experience and credit toward their (Eagle Required) Communications Merit Badge. :goodvibes

It took me a long time to really start to live the idea to "Never do anything for a Scout that a Scout can do for himself". We've really started living this in our troop over the past two years and the growth in these boys has been AMAZING! The confidence they have in themselves now! They no longer run to a parent or another leader to help them solve problems and issues. They work it out themselves or within their patrols or approach another patrol if they really need extra help.

They know to always grab an adult ASAP if it's a health or safety issue, but even in a lot of those cases, by the time a leader gets there (a minute or two at most) one of the other boys had already taken charge and has it well in hand. We had an incident last year with one of the boys stepping on a buried yellow jacket nest that happened to be on the trail they were hiking. They started to swarm and the boys all got out of there as fast as they could. As soon as they were at a safe distance, these boys who hadn't been stung, were whipping out their sting kits and treating the boys who had been stung.

They had already identified the scouts who had allergies and were ready to pass out antihistamines as soon as they had a leader's go ahead (not all the boys who were allergic had their own meds with them, they were in the leader's pack and he doesn't run as fast as the teens do :rotfl2:). This all took place in just a matter of minutes. These boys were PREPARED! They weren't relying on an adult to "fix it" for them. They just wanted a go ahead to medicate and I have no doubt that they wouldn't have hesitated to do that if they weren't sure the adults were just a moment behind them.

Wow, did I just write a book? LOL Guess scouting is on my mind tonight. My good friend's son turns 18 today and has officially aged out of Boy Scouts. I watched him go from a boy who barely spoke to anyone, to a leader in the troop who really lives everything that scouting has taught him. We helped his with his Eagle Project recently and it was really awesome to see what a leader he has become, not just with the scouts, but with adults as well. It's an amazing program!!

Wow, what a night! Here's some pics of San Francisco in celebration of the World Series:

( Of course the one in the SF Giants gear at the first day of the cruise, that'll be me with Mickey thrown in there somewhere..;)..then the SF Giants winning the World Series?!..Garsh!...Now after seeing your pics, I HAVE TO make to WDW for either Halloween or Christmas...:scratchin...Aw heck! Good afternoon all! Today is the day my hubby bids for his time off for next year. I'm crossing my fingers that he's able to get the time off for our cruises!!

Well, they still, don't know what's causing the problems. So, more tests tomorrow. But, he's not in any immediate danger. So, that's a good thing! It's just a matter of hurry up and wait, I guess? :confused3

I understand the waiting is the hardest part. I hope all goes well and that he gets better and better. :wizard:

Terrie Thanks for sharing the pics. They are great! Love the costume. What's the story around Duffy? Is this like Flat Stanley type of thing where you take pictures with it in all different places?

You're welcome and thank you :goodvibes Duffy is The Disney Bear. He is HUGE in Japan and almost as popular as Mickey Mouse in the Disney parks there. The story is that Mickey was going on a long sea voyage and Minnie did not want him to be lonely so she made him a teddy bear by hand with all her love. Mickey loved the bear and since he traveled with him in his duffle bag he named him Duffy. Duffy travels with Mickey to exciting places and makes new friends. So, in Japan everyone in the parks brings their Duffy and takes pictures of him in special Duffy picture spots and they dress him up. This includes grown men with no kids  Today our tour guide for the segway was from Japan and he told us that it takes over an hour just to get into the store to buy Duffy related products :scared1: Oh yeah, Duffy got to ride the segway :lmao: I went to get him another outfit but they were sold out of everything related to the countries the same day the stuff came in :confused3 Anyhow, I've decided I am taking Duffy on vacations from now on :rolleyes1

Wow, what a night! Here's some pics

I gotta agree, the people on this thread are awesome :grouphug: and will really add to the fun of the cruise itself! Halloween time and Christmas time, like early and mid December (not Christmas week or after) are our two favorite times of the year to visit :thumbsup2 I am sure you won't be disappointed.
