WldWcnWmn said:Again ~ no flames from anyone... I am not trying to be stupid... but why would you need her absences excused? She's in third grade? Does the elementary school have that strict a policy that the absences have to be excused in the third grade? My son's second biggest reason for not wanting to come along on the cruise is school. He's in college prep classes (he'll be 16 on September 14th) and a day or two really makes a difference in high school ~ not to mention a week! And number one reason is he hates all things Disney {Must be his Dad in him ~ That I don't get at all} anyway, Zack bailed on the cruise but when I go on vacation I call the school and say, "Mekayla won't be back until September 25th" and they say "o.k." I hate starting the year like that but that's when I get vacation time, and in the beginning of the year it's not hard to make up homework. How much classwork does your 9 year old have? If Mekayla had to stand up and do a "presentation" I think she would die on the spot of embarrassment! She's still learning cursive writing for goodness sakes!Elementary school isn't part of our School District's "permanent records" her first college pick isn't going to turn her down 'cause she missed a week or two in the fourth grade! What's with all the hoop jumping? I'm curiouis.

My DD has a cell also, and I will be very close. DD already knows that she can not answer the telephone without looking at the caller id and knowing the person calling. She also knows that she is not allowed to answer the door for any reason, even if I am at home. I may try a test run this weekend and leave her at home when I run up the street to pick up breakfast or something.
